Women’s Evening of Prayer Mary the Mother of God, our spiritual Mother and Mother of the Church, brings a certain tenderness, compassion, and loving concern which has touched the hearts, souls, and minds of every generation throughout the history of the Church. Although we honor Mary at all times and in all our prayers and church services, May has been chosen as a time to focus on the Mother of God and her place in our Salvation. On Tuesday evening, May 7, 2019 at 6:30 p.m., the ladies from St. Ann’s Society at Assumption Parish in Perth Amboy, NJ invite all women from the city, school and our parish to participate in a Moleben to the Blessed Mother of God service, followed by a homily “Blessed are the pure of heart: The life of Mary” preached by Very Rev. John Seniw, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church in Northampton, PA. It is our hope that you will join us not only in these prayerful devotions, but also in fellowship afterwards in our church hall as guests for refreshments. Senior Citizens Club A meeting will be held in the church hall on Thursday, May 9 at 12:00 noon. 2019 Ukrainian Cultural Festival – Perth Amboy, NJ The 7th Annual Assumption Parish Ukrainian Cultural Festival will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. on the parish grounds. With free admittance the festival will feature dazzling performances of Ukrainian dancers at 2:00 p.m. and at 4:00 p.m. in the school hall. Вечір Mолитви для Жінок ТИ МОЯ МАТИ, ЦАРИЦЯ НЕБЕСНАЯ У Вівторок 7 Травня, 2018 о 7- годині вечора, Сестрицтво Святої Анни запрошує усіх жінок нашої парафії взяти участь у Молебні до Пресвятої Богородиці.. Після Молебня, священник о.Іван Сенів з Норсгемтону, виголосить проповідь на тему "Блаж енні чисті серцем—життя Богосоеичі.” Усі запрошені на молитву і перекуску після відправи у залі під церквою. ДЕНЬ МАТЕРІ У наступну Неділю 12 Травня 2019 на Літургії ми будемо поминати усіх наших живих і померлих матерів. Якщо ви хочете щоб о.Іван молилися за ваших матерів, то у притворі до церкви на столі лежать білі конверти. Візьміть цей конверт і на ньому, або на листку паперу напишіть імя матері-матерів і киньте конверт у кошик підчас Літургії або особисто дайте конверт о. Івану. Підчас Недільної Літургії, за матерів буде братися ектенія за їхнє здоров'я а за померлих матерів, буде відправлена Панахида у кінці Літургії. Список матерів і жертводавців, буде опублікований в бюлетені. Не забудьте згадати свою маму бо без неї не було б вас. Діти також заспівають декілька пісень для матерів у залі після 9-год Літургії. Маївка до Божої Матері Розпочинається місяць Марії, і кожна християнська родина з нашої парафії повинна брати участь у травневому набоженстві до своєї Небесної Неньки – маївці. Український Фестиваль

Цьогорічний сьомий Український Фестиваль відбудеться у Суботу, 22 Червня 2019 року з 12 год. дня до 9 год вечора і буде проходити на шкільній площі і у шкільному залі. Всі бажаючі на фестивалі зможуть придбати вишиванки, керамічні вироби, випити якісного українського пива, поласувати українськими стравам, а також узяти участь у лотереї 50/50. Кожен знайде щось для душі. Концертна програма фестивалю включатиме виступ танцювальних колективів о 2 і 4-год дня. Коли твої недосконалості не стають на перешкоді пізнати Любов У звичайну неділю священик вже у звичний йому спосіб намагався зробити неможливе можливим – встигнути всюди. Але й цього воскреслого дня часу забракло, як врешті це стало вже звичним останніми неділями. На віддаленій парафії люди вже звикли до постійних звичних вибачень, що Богослуження затримується, і вже перестали вірити можливість поправи. Тієї неділі чомусь це стало великим болем для священика: він знав, що стає причиною до неспокою, але найбільше боявся, що йому можуть докорити і цього разу може зустріти розчаровані погляди людей. Із схиленою головою увійшов у храм. Всі вже звично шуміли, заповнюючи час своїми балачками. Із опущеним поглядом чорна тінь з поспіхом та немов незамітно увійшла у захристію. По короткому часі почались звершувати перші моління і, возносячи кадильним дим, священнослужитель закликав люд божий до молитви, хоч із-запізненням. Його голос був невпевненим, а в рухах можна було побачити якусь роздвоєність, мабуть це були сумніви: спішити, щоб наздогнати час людей і чи спокійно звершувати службу, щоб дати належне Богу. Але прийшов момент, коли потрібно було виносити Євангеліє. Це означало вийти у храм вірних і залишити Святая Святих – місце, що стало схоронищем немочі, і зустрітися з поглядом досконалих і пунктуальних. Аж ніяк не хотілось покидати місце, де сміливо міг підняти свої очі і глянути на хрест. Хотілось далі стояти і просити прощення за свою недосконалість. Але слова третього антифону «Прийдіте возрадуймося Господеві..» не залишили вибору: треба було виходити до людей. Знову опущені очі. Євангеліє міцно притиснуте до грудей, тримаючи з особливим відчуттям спасіння. Хотілось чим швидше вернутися до Святилища. Але цього не сталось … поспішні кроки із середини храму наближались у сторону престолу і це привернуло увагу всіх. Тоді і священик глянув у ту сторону. Це була маленька дівчинка, яка спішила поцілувати Святе Євангеліє. Вона зупинилась і після знаку святого хреста усміхнено голосно викрикнула: «Отець, як добре, що ти приїхав!» Священик від несподіванки лиш промовив: «Христос посеред нас!» і обняв дитину. Люди від такої несподіванки лиш усміхнулись і мило спостерігали як в обіймах були всі твоє: дитина, священик та Святе Боже слово між ними. Коли дитя далі побігло, усміхаючись, священик несміливо глянув на радісних людей. Тоді він відчув дотик Великої Любові і любові тих, хто завжди терпеливо очікував і радів хоч спізнілої присутності Божого служителя. Кажуть, що цього разу виголос «Премудрість! Прості!» звучав по-іншому, бо стосувався мабуть в першу чергу того, хто принижував свій погляд через свої немочі, а Бог підняв, випростав його у Своїй Любові.

Бути священиком – це не означає бути досконалим, але прагнути бути з Досконалим Богом.

Бути священиком – це не означає робити все досконало, але дати можливість Богові досконало звершувати святе служіння.

Бути священиком – це означає жити досконало, але пізнавати у своїх немочах досконалу Божу Любов і ділитися нею.

The Holy Myrrhbearers.

On this day, the third Sunday of Pascha, we celebrate the memory of the Holy Myrrhbearing Women. We also commemorate St. Joseph of Arimathea, who was one of the seventy secret Apostles. We also re-member St. Nicodemus, who came to Christ at night and was one of the leaders of the Jews.

We remember the women because they were the first to truthfully bear witness to the Resurrection, while Joseph and Nicodemus were the first to bear witness to the burial of Christ. These two facts are both true and well known by us. Nicodemus was immediately ban-ished from the synagogue and was forbidden to rejoin it.

The reason they are called "Myrrhbearers" is this: since that Friday was the day before the Passover, for great was that Saturday, Joseph and Nicodemus struggled to bury the Lord's Body, anointing It with ointments according to the custom of the Jews, but not in a fittingly proper manner. They were able only to apply some aloes and a bit more myrrh on His most pure Body before wrapping Him in thin linen and laying Him in the tomb that was hewn out of rock. They strongly desired to anoint Him properly and fulfill all that had been omitted due to the hurried manner of the burial. When they arrived at the tomb, they saw many signs, such as two radiant angels who were inside the tomb and another who was seated on the stone. They then saw Christ and worshiped Him, but Mary Magdalene thought He was the gardener and inquired concerning the Lord's Body. Yet, we should know that there were more Myrrhbearers than those mentioned by the Evangelists, for they named only those who were more well known and were silent concerning the others.

Thus, the Church has designated this day, the first Sunday after Thomas Sunday, to commemorate these women who preached the Resurrection and the many other signs that confirmed and verified the Resurrection of Christ. Therefore, Christ's Church has determined to celebrate these women as the ones who were the first to behold Christ risen from the dead, who announced to all the prophecy of salvation, and who lived their lives in Christ in a fitting manner as ones who had been taught by Christ Himself.

Parish Festival

Dear Parishioners, our 7th Annual Ukrainian Cultural Festival is quickly approaching and we need everyone’s help to make it a success. Once again, we are having the festival on Satur-day, June 22, 2019 from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. on our parish grounds. With free admittance the festival will feature dazzling performances of Ukrainian dancers at 2:00 p.m. and at 4:00 p.m. in the school hall. The live music band will play outdoors from 5-9 p.m. Festivals are supposed to be “festive”. That is, full of festivities, full of enjoyment, good food, dancing and entertainment. In-deed, this is what we can expect at our Festival - a delicious homemade Ukrainian food, Ukrainian beer, delicious desserts, vendors, a church tour and a Beautiful Baskets raffle and 50/50 Cash Raffle. May, Moleben, and the Mother of God.

Mary the Mother of God, our spiritual Mother and Mother of the Church, brings a certain tenderness, compassion, and loving concern which has touched the hearts, souls, and minds of every generation throughout the history of the Church. Her title of “Mother” reveals her unique relationship with her Son and with the Church. In this, she is a wonderful source of inspiration, hope, and courage as we face the many trials and challenges of our Church and society.

Although we honour Mary at all times and in all our prayers and church services, May has been chosen as a time to focus on the Mother of God and her place in our salvation. Mary is the greatest of all the saints. Every Divine Liturgy is offered first “for our most holy, most pure, most blessed and glorious Lady, the Mother of God and ever-virgin Mary.” She was chosen and saved from the beginning of her life because of the unique role she was to play in salvation history. When Mary said yes to bearing the Son of God, she became the first to be saved. Many events of her life provide us with a model of how we should live. We celebrate and venerate the Mother of God because she was the Theotokos (God-bearer).

Devotional services have been the Church’s response to help us express certain aspects of our relationships with God, Mary or certain saints. First among these services are those that honour the Mother of God. We do not adore her or worship her as we do God, but we venerate her; that is, we show her reverence and honour.

One of the devotional services is the Moleben that we celebrate today. In general, a moleben is a service of intercession or supplication. The Moleben to the Theotokos is based on the service of matins, as served on a feast day, complete with a Gospel reading — in this case, Luke’s account of Mary visiting Elizabeth. It also includes the trisagion hymn in honour of the Blessed Trinity, the Our Father, petitions from the faithful and, of course, hymns of praise. This particular moleben is said to have originated at the beginning of the 20th century in Western Ukraine. Since then it has become beloved by Ukrainian Catholics, who hold a special devotion to the Theotokos.

It is celebrated in our church every TUESDAY at 6:30 PM throughout the month of May.
