Greetings All!!

I hope that the new year has so far been kind to you and your LBC. It is my hope that many of you will take advantage of the great weather we have been having and getting your cars on the road. Annual Car Club ElectionsStorybyDiannSelke-PhotosbySandySanders

Our January breakfast caught us by surprise when over 60 members attended. It really shows how many of our members really care about our club. We want to thank the Glen Lakes staff for jumping right in and serving all our members in a timely manor. The meeting started with Harry announcing the nominations his committee had proposed for this years elections. After a unanoumous vote Jay Gerding was elected our new President, Gerry Diepering, Vice President, Ron Philips, Secretary and Diann Selke, Treasurer. The month of January was a quiet month for members to take a rest from the hustle bustle of the holidays. Our new President and Vice President have been working diligently looking for new activities for us to attend and scoping some possible Road Trips and Fun Runs. If you have any ideas please contact Jay with your ideas. So, get those cars spiffy so we can take advantage of the beautiful weather we have and hit the road!

A GT Project

Reflections from RonStoryandPhotosbyChuckVanerka

After Saturday’s mega-turnout breakfast I stopped by Diann and Ron’s place to checkout Ron’s (first time ever) paint job on his 71 MGB-GT. After nearly four years of his off again on again project, Ron is starting to see the light at the tunnel’s end. This MG hasn’t been a simple A B C disassembly, clean and reassembly project. With a conglomeration engine, transmission, body and suspension parts of various years, as well as, English and American auto-makers, this became an engineering exercise. It goes something like this: Modify car to fit Part-A, but now Part-B won’t clear Item-C, modify Item-C, but then stock Item-D interfers with Item-C. Item -C is structural, so start over, etc.,etc,. Refer to the book . . . Sorry, there is no book!

A lesser man would have pushed it behind the barn hoping it would rust away to dust and blow away or have used his creative writing skills trying to come up with an E-Bay listing in the needs minor work section. But, RPP (Ron Pursaverance Phillips) has stayed on point. The V-6 engine is running, the auto trans is shifting, the rusted out panels have been repaired and it’s now sporting shinney new red paint, and yes that’s Ron’s reflection in the door of the GT. Although the next GOF is approaching Ron is really looking forward to the next T.G.I.F. (Thank God it’s finished).

It's Time To Renew Your Membership!

LISTINGS FROM DAVE HOUSERI would like to give the members an opportunity, should they desire, to buy my Vespa/sidecar combo. Time has come to pass it along to another custodian to enjoy. It is a 1965 VBB 150cc in very nice shape. Not using it much at all and in the 6 years I have had it, I put about 120 miles on around Silverthorn. Price is $3200 or a reasonable offer. Contact me at mgs4dave@tampabay rr.com or call 352-796-0782 for details.

Also . . .A friend of mine up in Maryland has decided that the time has come to give up his car to a new custodian. It is a beautiful MKII TD, restored about 20 years ago but my friend has upgraded several items, one being a 5-speed trans. Everything works and is in excellent shape. He asked to see if anyone in FL would be interested before he puts it on eBay. If anyone interested, I will put them in touch with him.Cheers, Dave

THERE WILL BE PLENTY TO CELEBRATE, TOO, AS TRIUMPH SPORTS CARS WILL TURN 60 YEARS OLD WHILE SPITFIRES WILL TURN 50. OUR NOT-SO-MODEST GOAL FOR OBSERVING THESE TWO OCCASIONS: MAKE THE 2012 MITTY AN EVEN BIGGER BASH THAN TRIUMPH’S GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY AT MID-OHIO IN 2002. TRIUMPHS WON’T GET ALL THE ATTENTION, HOWEVER, AS THE 2012 MITTY WILL BE A BRITISH CAR EXTRAVAGANZA HONORING ALL MARQUES FROM ACROSS THE POND. THE WINNING MARQUE (THE ONE WITH THE MOST EXAMPLES AT THE EVENT) WILL RECEIVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION IN CLASSIC MOTORSPORTS MAGAZINE. PLUS, THE CLUB WITH THE MOST CARS IN THEIR CAR CORRAL WILL EARN AN EXCITING AWARD. TRIUMPH LEGEND R. W.“KAS” KASTNER WILL SERVE AS GRAND MARSHAL. THROUGH MORE THAN 50 YEARS OF RACING, KAS HAS MADE INCREDIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BRITISH CAR COMMUNITY. WE’RE PROUD TO HONOR HIM AT THE MITTY. WE HAVE ALREADY INVITED SOME OF THE LARGEST BRITISH CAR CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY TO ATTEND THE MITTY, AND WE WANT YOUR CLUB THERE, TOO. CLICK HERE TO EMAIL ANDY REID AND SECURE A SPOT ON THE INFIELD TO ENJOY THE EVENT AMONG FRIENDS. THE EVENT WILL BE PRESENTED BY MAZDA AND FEATURE A WEEKEND FULL OF ENTERTAINMENT, BOTH ON TRACK AND AFTER HOURS AT THE MOSS PUB.
