Volunteerism & Service Report
Prepared By: UNTHSC Volunteer Council Ayesha Hawkins, Ed.D
UNTHSC Volunteer Council, Chair

March 8, 2017
Report Overview This the first comprehensive service and volunteerism report for UNT Health Science Center (UNTHSC). The
members of the UNTHSC Volunteer Council compiled this report. The members of the council are either
responsible for tracking volunteer service hours or were selected to represent their program or department on
the council. All the hours that are reported in the report either are self-reported to a council member or logged
in to the student platform OrgSync. The service hours reported here occurred between August 1, 2015 and July
31, 2016. The UNTHSC Volunteer Council mission and goals are included in this report.
The section on volunteerism broken down by program and UNTHSC type. This is the first report the UNTHSC
Volunteer Council has compiled. The UNTHSC Volunteer Council created definitions of the different types of
service that are included in this report. The UNTHSC Volunteer Council acknowledges that these definitions
may be limiting and will look to include other areas in forthcoming reports. The categories for the type of
community partners are broad to show the varying types of partners that both UNTHSC students and employees
volunteer. The list this year is not to be exhaustive but representative.
It is the understanding of the UNTHSC Volunteer Council that this report in the years to come will become
more robust. Currently each department and academic program tracks different information for various reasons.
The upcoming years will strive to make sure that all academic programs and departments align their tracking
mechanisms. It is the understanding that each program may have separate needs for the items that they tracked,
but alignment is the goal.
