Well winter is now upon us and getting out and about in those old Volksies becomes a little more of a challenge. So stay in by the fire and watch the teev or get in an air cooled relic and head off out into the cold. Choices, choices!! Well we say get in to that aircooled (or watercooled) VeeDub and head off out because there is lots of VW Club activity coming up. On the last Sunday in May we had our annual club Concourse. The venue this year was the Moorabbin Air Museum and the curators of this museum allowed VW’s entered in the Concourse to park on the museum grounds in amongst the vintage and veteran aircraft displays. This provided fantastic photo opportunities with these old aircraft as back drops. Congratulations to the worthy trophy winners and thanks to Graeme and the crew who run the Air Museum for allowing a large VW contingent to invade their museum. Full report with details of the concourse winners listed in this magazine. VW Nationals Sydney. Club Vee Dub in Sydney held their big VW show for the year during the weekend of 22 nd and 23 rd of May. The weekend kicked off with a super sprint at Wakefield Park in Goulburn and concluded with the big show at the Fairfield showgrounds. I couldn’t go this year unfortunately (and my liver is probably better for it Mr Birchall!) but from all accounts this was an excellent weekend. Congratulations to Club Vee Dub on another great Nat’s event. Full report included in this issue. On Sunday the 4 th of July, while the yanks will be celebrating American Independence Day, we will be celebrating Christmas in July. Location for our club Xmas dinner this year is the Marong family hotel and we will make our way there with a cruise from the Calder Park BP, and a visit to the Castlemaine Farmers Market. I hear that Santa will be making an appearance so be good and decorate your VW for the occasion. Christmas in July dinner deposits need to be paid no later than the June general meeting. Check in this issue or web site for more details. Committee position focus – Web Master. If you haven’t checked out our club web site in recent times, please do. These days the club web site is diligently maintained by our web master Richard Graham and he has built on the great work done on our club web site by previous web masters. The home page is kept current with the latest of my president’s ramblings, club activities added to the events page and back issues of our monthly magazine available in PDF format. There is also a new club merchandise page, where you can order some very nice club clothing. There is lots of other work going on behind the web site currently, so check in regularly and let us know what you like and don’t like. Vic Roads Club Permit Scheme - No update on the scheme for this month. Submissions from Vic Car clubs are still under consideration. We will continue to maintain close contact with Vic Roads and keep our VW Club Vic membership posted on update updates to the 90/45 days scheme. Club Constitution and Rules & By Laws. There is a big project with the committee currently involving the review and re-drafting of our club constitution and rules and bylaws. Once finished this draft document will be available for review and comment from all club members during August and September. More details over the coming months. June General Meeting – Please be aware that we are having the June general meeting at the Shannons Auctions premises on Warrigal Road Cheltenham. Bring along a camp chair. Hope to see you all at Shannons on the 22 nd . Dean Holden - VWCV President June General Meeting will be the last meeting to sign- up, So... HURRY UP !!!

21st May, 2010, Friday, SunnyWoke up quite late this morning. Got myself prepare for a solo long distance drive. Went in to J & F Motors, where i usually show up, which is also my lovely workplace, done some last minute preparation for my dub to rock up an approximate 840km trip to Sydney. After all things sorted out, hopped in my dub, off I go. Knew it was a long trip, unfortunately, i couldʼt get my “boom box” done on time, I have to sing to myself to keep me awake which give me an opportunity to get myself prepare for the next coming audition for Australian Idol. Well, the whole journey was quite exciting yet a little boring. I mange to arrive Sydney at about 10:30pm. Knock on my friendʼs door in West Ryde which is my temporary accommodation in Sydney for 2 nights. Straight after everything unloaded from my car, me and my friends went out to city to have our meal in a quite well know Malaysian restaurant in Dixon St.,“ mamak” is the name. I strongly recommend anyone to give it a try at this restaurant if you want to know how Malaysian food taste like provided if you travel to Sydney and you have never been to Malaysia. Just another tips, make sure you order

their “Roti” (which mean bread in Malay), leave it whatever “Roti”, as long as you see a “Roti” word in the menu, just order, they are 99.9% similar taste to what youʼll get in Malaysia. After our dinner, went to Star City, which i call “Las Vegas Sydney”. 22nd May, 2010, Saturday, Sunny Still woke up late this morning at about 11, get myself prepare, went down Rydalmere to visit Classic Vee-Dub. George, owner of CVD, very nice man, very warm welcoming from him. Went in there is like entering VWsʼ shopping heaven to me. I manage to get some parts for my mate, Nick, also mange to get myself an interior light. Late afternoon, visit Parramatta, nothing much to do there, took my VW for a thorough clean up and detailing, then went to Top Ryde for a window shop ended my day. Spending my night in city again having dinner, walked around and also went down to Martin Pl., near town hall to have some fun which I prefer not to chat any further about that. Secret. :-)23rd May, 2010, Sunday, Partly Cloudy Finally, got myself woke up a little bit early this morning. After

preparing myself, I have to prepare dubzy as well. We both all ready to go with all my things loaded up, we head straight to Fairfield City Showground in Prairiewood. As soon as I hit the car park in front, just wouldʼt blink my eyes even a second with different kind of VDUB$ displaying in front of me eyes. Is fair a long queue though to go through the judging, took me about 45 minutes to go through that. Meet up Dean from Volkshome during my queue through judging, and also catch up with Andrew & Stuart E., both Boris from Volkscare, Llyod & his son Peter Davies, Matt Gardner, and John Goodison. The showground is fully under shed. With some Jazz music and some dubzʼ hot motors stirring up the environment, how good is that! Walk through the whole ground, took some pics, and the Vic crews are all ready to pack up for another long drive back to work next day morning. Went down to Liverpool BP servo for refuel, hearing from VW diesel owner winging about the slowest diesel pump ever in the world. After refuel and lunch in Hungry Jacks, Llyod, Peter, John & Dean in T5; Andrew, Stuart & Matt in T4, both Boris in Touareg, and ME in my Air-cooled Beetle

traveling in convoy. Slowly, T5,T4 and Touareg no longer in my sight. Left me solo again driving back to Melbourne. I tried hard to keep up, but couldʼt. Reminder to all Aircooled Drivers, never travel with Watercooled drivers because they are bad guyz, never wait for Aircoolers. Example shown. Joking only. On my way back, my front suspension starts to play up. What happen is my front wheels start scrubbing against the front guard and they slowly jammed up. I have to pull aside quite a few times to raise the front end back up. In the mean time, I were worry yet quite happy because this prove that my car is LOW, but not low enough! Anyway, thank God i got back to Melbourne safe, arriving here at about 1:30am. The fuel consumption was about a tank and a quarter up and the same when i came back. I am happy with the fuel consumption overall. More eventʼs picture available at Club Website Gallery soon.

Lawrence Lee, VWCV Editor

Dean: On Sunday the 30th of May, a contingent of VW enthusiasts braved the inclement weather and gathered together at the Moorabbin Air Museum to be part of the annual VW Club Vic VW Concourse. The day started for many with early assembly at a couple of pre arranged meeting points followed by cruises to the Air Museum organised by both Lawrence Lee, leaving from Garden Vale, and Brad Wells leaving from Bus N Bugs premises in Sandringham.Lawrence: Yeap, thatʼs right! Freezing morning, some members still ride in their Dubz to meet up at Shell Servo in Garden Vale. We have Andrew Ermel, Steve Craven, Andrew Mengyel, ED and me in Beetles, and John Farlow in his Passat TS. We have all together 6 vehicles cruising along which is not bad.Dean: From about 9.30am Graeme Malcolm and the team who run the air museum had the large side gate to the grounds removed and were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the VWʼs that were going to fill in all the space between the aircraft exhibits.By about 11.00am we had a total of 30 VWʼs entered in the Concourse ranging from Air Cooled Beetles and Kombis, right thru to the latest Water cooled VWʼs. Beetles and Kombis were by far the largest represented models out of the 6 main concourse categories.  There was also a very nice selection of VWʼs in the car park, leaving museum visitors with no doubts that there was a VW event happening and providing a little more than just the classic aircraft to look at.Lawrence: Iʼve actually volunteer to give Dean a hand to do the head count, from head count to vehicle count. On that day, approximate number of different range VWsʼ that turn up are 18 Beetles, 11 Splitty, 5 Bays, 9 Watercooled, 2 Type 3, and not forgetting the only 1 Karmann Ghia and 1 Buggy. Dean: Wilma and her coffee van kept dubbers topped up with caffeine during the day and the Moorabbin air museum BBQ was fired up to feed the hungry crew.

By 1.00pm the Concourse judging was all done and dusted and the group gathered inside the hanger for trophy presentations.  The cold weather meant that once trophies were handed out and last minute photos taken, most decided to head to somewhere a little warmer.

Winners of 2010 VW Club Concourse were:Beetle- Aircooled All Years Glen Orriss 1967 BeetleKombi- All Years         Tony Heesterman   1960 PanelGolf-All Years                       Norm Mauger  1996 CabrioletType 3 & 4                            Tom Bachli   1964 UteKarmann Ghia                      Andrew Makin  1971 SedanWatercooled- All Years        Dean Holden  2008 EOSJudges Choice Bill Tsokos   1968 1500cc Beetle(Car of the Concourse) Congratulations to all the category winners.

Dean: Thanks to the volunteers who assisted on the day and a big thanks to John Goodison for organising the judging team. And a big thanks to Graeme and the team at the Moorabbin Air Museum for allowing us to use their venue.Lawrence: Exactly, also a big thanks to all members and participants that show up and make this day a succesful day. Cheers! Dean: If you didnʼt make it along to the Concourse, I would highly recommend a Sunday drive to visit this museum sometime. There are some fantastic exhibits and some very special aircraft on display.   Lawrence: Lastly, for those who canʼt make it that day, you can visit VWCV Website for more pictures.
