water resources in africa by group1
TRANSCRIPT
Africa is on both sides of the equator and on both
sides of meridian 0, that's why it is so hot there and
there aren’t many reserves of drinking water. There
are considerable humidity contrasts in Africa. There are both - very humid and unusually dry areas there.
Hydrology of Africa.
The hydrology of Africa is diversified. In vast areas of deserts only sporadic or periodic rivers appear. However, in other areas large rivers being the a few thousand kilometers long
are formed. The majority of lakes is located in Large Ditches of Africa.
Rivers
In large areas of Africa there aren't any permanent rivers. In some places episodic rivers are formed. The majority of rivers is
supplied by rainfall, what usually causes two states of water: high- during the rainy season and low- before the rainy season.
The river Nile which is the longest river in Africa, is 6671 km
long from its source in Victoria Lake to its estuary in the eastern part of Mediterranean Sea.
Lakes
The most of lakes are in the Large African Ditches. There are also the biggest lakes of Africa there:· Victoria Lake with the area of 68.8 thousand km² .· Tanganika Lake, 1470 m deep which is second, after Bajkal, the deepest lake of world.· Nyasa Lake- 30.8 thousand km²
Glaciers
Glaciers in Africa cover about 240 km². They are found only in highlands in the eastern part of Africa. The most of them are on
Kilimanjaro at heights of above 4800 m asl - the highest boundary of perpetual snow in the world; on Kenya (3950 m) -
the lowest boundary of perpetual snow.
Ground waters
Ground waters in Africa have a twofold origin. Largely they are supplied by rainfall, although in the vicinity of coasts the
infiltration of salt waters takes place.
