MASS TIMES

ST IGNATIUS Toowong: Weekdays 5.30pm every afternoon; Saturday 9.00am & 6.00pm (Vigil); Sunday 7.00am & 5.00pm.

Reconciliation: Saturday after 9.00am Mass and from 5.15pm to 5.45pm, or by appointment. HOLY SPIRIT Auchenflower: Weekdays 9.00am Monday, Wednesday & Friday; Sunday 8.30am.

Family gatherings inevitably lead in to a series

of ‘remember when …’ The sharing of stories

leads to a greater understanding and

deepening of the bond that already exists

between people. In sharing our stories we

cement the duty of care we have for others.

Dietrich Bonhoffer Letters and Papers from Prison wrote: “The table

fellowship of Christians implies obligation. It is our daily bread that

we eat, not my own. We share our bread. Thus we are firmly bound

to one another not only in the Spirit but in our whole physical

being. The one bread that is given to our fellowship links us

together in a firm covenant. Now none dares go hungry as long as

another has bread, and anyone who breaks this fellowship of the

physical life also breaks the fellowship of the Sprit.”

There is an old saying: ‘you are what you eat!’ Perhaps you have had

the depressing experience of looking into a mirror and discovering

that there is more to you than there has ever been. And if you

have been eating large amount of junk food, perhaps you are

becoming increasingly more like junk!

Today’s feast challenges us to become what we eat at eucharist—

’The Body of Christ’. ‘Amen!’ Are we becoming more and more the

living flesh and blood of Christ in a spirituality starving world?

The thought of retirement was tough. Fr Ray went from a large parish family one day to being on his own the next. He started out in 1962 with his first parish at Mt Gravatt. Along the way he has had some great opportunities to share, serve and teach God’s word. But age catches up with all of us and after 48yrs he decided to retire from full time service. Fr Ray is grateful for the support he has in building a comfortable new life. Knowing he still has the respect and care of his community means the world to him.

Your gift to the Annual Catholic Campaign will support retired priests like Fr Ray who have given their lives to serving the

communities of South East Queensland. Please show you care with a gift to the Annual Catholic Campaign. www.catholiccampaign.com.au

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

Over the coming weeks, our parish, along with every parish and school in the Archdiocese, will be participating in the Annual Catholic Campaign. Because I believe that the Annual Catholic Campaign is so important for the work of the Church and our parish family, I

encourage you to please begin considering how you can support the important ministries of the Church.

The Annual Catholic Campaign provides resources for ministries in education, formation and social services.

In recent years we have been blessed with a full seminary. The number of men discerning their vocation to priesthood certainly provides hope for our aging priest population. We have 32 men studying at Banyo. However, seminarian education is not free. Your gifts to the

Annual Catholic Campaign will support the formation of men who will be your future priests.

Your gifts to the Campaign will also provide a brighter future for our young people. You can make a difference to the life of a child by providing them the gift of a Catholic education. The Annual Catholic Campaign supports a new fund that breaks down financial barriers and gives children who would otherwise not afford it, the chance of a Catholic education. Whilst giving to the parish offertory is the primary responsibility for each of us, the Campaign supports ministries that our parish alone could not provide. By sharing a financial gift, you can touch the lives of thousands of people in South East Queensland who are supported

through programs that teach, heal, support, nurture and feed. You will make a difference.

As you hear about the ministries supported by the Campaign over the next weeks, please consider making a regular monthly gift. This way you will be able to increase the impact of your generosity. Regular giving allows ministries to plan ahead and grow knowing that there are

people willing and committed to making ongoing contributions.

Over the weeks to come we will learn more about the great work of the ministries supported by the Campaign.

Please join me, along with Archbishop Mark Coleridge, in praying for the success of the Annual Catholic Campaign. May God bless you for

your support of our parish and our Church across South East Queensland.

In Christ, Fr Peter B. Quin sj, PP.
