Now days, Internet plays the important role in the day today life, because it is easy to

handle and we can easily gets the information within an time, and for that web design is an

main part of website and web Portal.

We are making a web portal. Web portal is known as links page and the main difference

between the web portal and web design is that

This Examination portal will provide the faster solution for both department and the students

in concern of the examination from the student information until the declare of the result.

About the Project 

We are making a web portal for examination , and as per we said in the introduction the

main part of our project is Scheme. Actually traditionally for exam system, when user (who

are from office faculty) want to put the data or information about exam the user must enter

the data again and again for every student but by the our part i.e. by scheme per year the user

will define scheme and all student of this semester or this year will put in scheme, so by thisuser don’t want to put the data again and again and it time reducing part for the user. For the

student we can say the students can see the result online.

What is Portal?

"Portal" has in the recent two years become an increasingly popular term being

mentioned and discussed in the IT sector and many organizations. The Q&A web page that isput up by CREN (Collaboration Research and Education Network):

about what a portal is. In short, it is a web system that provides the functions and features to

authenticate and identify the users and provide them with an easy, intuitive, personalized and

user-customizable web-interface for facilitating access to information and services that are of 

primary relevance and interests to the users. To the organization that sets up the portal, it is a

system that provides versatile functions for the organization to catalogue or organize

collections of different and multiple sources of information and service resources for

dissemination to many users according to their specific privileges, needs and interest. Hence,

the main purpose of setting up a portal is to bring the vast information and service resources

available from many sources to many users in an effective manner.

"Many to many in an effective manner" should be the essence of a portal system.As a matter of fact, long before the concept of portal was explored by IT people in trying to

reap the potential values and benefits that could be provided by using Web technologies, the

term "Portal system" has been consistently used in the field of medical and anatomy studies to

represent the important system within our body that very effectively brings blood from the

many capillaries connecting to our digestive system to the many fine blood vessels inside our

liver.

When will the Portal be needed?

Nowadays, many organizations are making extensive use of the web to disseminate

information and provide services to their users, say their staff members, customers, etc. To copewith the various needs of different users, the numerous types of information and services that

can be available to all kinds of users would be grouped together and presented on the web

according to the nature of the operational functions. In general, this means that the information

and services are grouped based on the division of the service-providing departments, and the

users must have some idea about what kind of information or services could be provided by

which department in order to gain access to the required information or service without much

difficulty. Very often, it is not the case because a user may know quite little about the

departments or there could be too many departments and too many kinds of services of which

only a small subset would be of relevance or interests to the user. Under such circumstances, a

user would face the problem of information overload and find it quite difficult to locate the

needed information or service from the many service offerings. As it is the trend that

organizations are increasingly making extensive use of web applications for information

dissemination and service delivery to the users, the just mentioned difficulty that could be

encountered by users due to information overload would become a more severe and obvious

problem that needs to be resolved. To alleviate the problems described, i.e. to improve the user-

friendliness and to enable convenient access to the different kinds of information and services

mounted on the web by users, it would be desirable to set up a portal for channeling the vast

information resource and many services to different users in an efficient and effective manner so

that when a user can be identified by the portal, personalized information and services which arerelevant or of interests to the user would be presented to him according to his profile

Desirable features of a Portal

A portal should support the following desirable functions and features:

1. Allowing different information- and service-providing departments to set up and

update their own information and services tailored specifically for different user

groups according to the common user profiles (such as grades, departments

associated, etc.) and the specific needs of these user groups at specific times.

2. Presenting automatically the information and services that a user would need

according to his profile at the appropriate time.

3. Allowing a user to select the information and services that are his interests and to

customize their presentation.

4. Setting up information and services from users' perspective rather than from the

angle of convenience of the services providers.

5. Supporting the "Single-sign-on" feature so that a single sign-on step would

enable the user to gain access to the different information resource and services that

are supported by different application systems provided by different departments.

Technically, this feature can be facilitated by means of implementing a common

organization-wide LDAP (Light-weight Directory Access Protocol) service and

CAS (Central Authentication Service).

Introduction to PHP

PHP stands for : Hypertext Preprocessor. It is a server-side scripting

language, PHP scripts are executed on the server and PHP is an open sourcesoftware. It supports many databases like MySQL,Oracle etc. PHP files have

a file extension of ".php", ".php3", or ".phtml"

We have choosen PHP language because the PHP is an specaially

dedicated to the web design part and it runs on different platforms like

Windows, Linux, Unix, etc and PHP is compatible with almost all servers

used today (zend,Apache, IIS, etc.)

Introduction to MySQL 

We have chosen a My sql for the database. MySQL is a an database server , it is ideal for

both small and large applications and it supports standard SQL, MySQL compiles on a

number of platforms. 

Database is a most important part of any project. Our database will maintain the data which

is necessary to the department as well as students related examination process, and we will

make scheme for optional subject which is change every year.

Information about Subject

At the beginning user will add subject for the database of 

the department by give subject code , name , number of credit and passing

grade. It will consider the practical subject as independent subject. In the

form we provide two buttons one is insert and update, by clicking insert the

whole data will store in database of the subject name as subject_master.

Information about scheme

We are making scheme which is very useful for selecting

the subjects and syllabus. Assign scheme id ,branch and semester after thatadding the subjects with syllabus details to generate the scheme. Save the

scheme inside the database. In this form we have provided two buttons one

is insert scheme and another is add new subject. By clicking on insert

scheme the data will store in the database named as scheme_master and by

clicking on add new subject the user can enter the subject which are not

present in the database of the subject_master.

Information about student form

This form is use to insert the information of the student ,

The student should contact college university department for guidance

regarding obtaining the examination form and filling the information require

like name, scheme id ,class....etc, submit the information to the department.

We have provided here one button which is save by clicking on this the save

the whole data or information will save in database of the student which

named as student_master.

Information about Marks

In marks form will be easy to generate the mark sheet for

the student by choosing the scheme id , and the class name with semester

and automatically the subject related for this scheme will show , and will

insert the marks for each subject .In the form of marks we have provided

three buttons and it is next, save, finish. By clicking on save the information

of the one subject of one student will be save in the database. By clicking on

the next another student information user have to put and on the clicking on

finish the this page will be closed.
