Room Cooling Loads and Airflow Requirements

A plan or diagram showing thermal zones, thermostat locations, diffuser locations, VAV Box locations and duct routing, with ducts sized.

As per the given dimensions for ceiling, beam and duct work, Floor to floor height is 12 ft 4in, and beams take up 2 ft. floor to ceiling height is 8ft 6in. We are left with 1ft 10 inches height for ductwork. Since the ducts are 1 inch insulated we are left with 1ft 8in as the maximum height for the duct.

We have two kinds of ducts low pressure ducts that are with velocity 750 ft per minute, and medium with velocity 1250 ft per minute.

Diffusers of 2by2 ft are used that are used to diffuse 200 cfm

Assuming Friction Allowance needed to calculate duct sizing, as 1.

We calculate duct sizes for each room using the formula;

Area (SF) = (Volume of Air (CFM) / Velocity(FPM) ) X (Friction Allowance)

I chose to have medium pressure ducts with rooms of either high occupancy or cooling load and low pressure with rooms of lower cooling load. The ducts are assumed as rectangular

Following images show the 200 CFM diffusers, VAV boxes and the duct lines, from VAV to diffusers are low pressure and from the supply line to VAV are Medium pressure lines. The first image shows the thermal zones for the building, and the 2nd and 3rd image is duct and supply position and duct tracks
