In Mt. Airy High Caroline Sydnor was the teacher who encouraged my passion for Math. She even followed my analysis when I wrote in the margins. (ha) She also touched me personally when in our junior year when my good friend, Becky Short's dad died. She took us out of the classroom to talk with us and handled the situation with great sensitivity and obviously understood the loss and grief we felt and the healing that would be needed.  I did major in Math at Wake Forest with a high school teaching credential. I found teaching was not my calling. I got my Masters in Rehabilitation Psychology and worked as the Adult Developmental Activities director for Forsyth County Sheltered Workshop for 5 years.  I then moved near Stanford University in the San Francisco Bay Area and got my Juris Doctorate law Degree from California State University. I did psychological evaluations for the Justice Department using my Law degree and Rehabilitation Psychology training in that capacity. I retired on the Friday before the November election in 2008 for the weekend. I worked the polls for the 2008 election that Tuesday.

Short retirement, I went to work as Women's Ministry Director of First Baptist Los Altos Ca., now Bridges Community Church the next day, Wednesday. I have had the opportunity for service in that capacity for almost 10 years now. I have a passion and feel fulfilled in the ministry the Lord has given me and get to be a part of the lives I share with these special people and see the Lord work and lead in the walk together.

Quite a transition from a daughter of Church street in Mayberry but made possible by the solid foundation and values learned as part of the Mount Airy High School Class of 1968. In Love and gratitudeCheryle Chandler
