White butterflies fall, an open palm holds winter

I began by opening the image in Photoshop

Next I cropped the image and changed it to black and white. I also selected the pattern on the wings using the magic wand tool and changed the colour to blue.

Next I added a lighter blue tone to the butterfly wings

Next I added a darker blue to the rest of the wings

Using a different brush texture I added a white ‘freckles’ to the lighter part of the wings.

I also added the freckle effect to the other shade of blue. I felt this gave a sort of snowflake effect to the butterfly

I added adjustments to the image to make the image look more realistic.
