Week 1 - 2 Term 4 2017 Message From CEO Assalamu Alaikum, Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 4. I would like to share with our community an exciting program we have planned for 2018. At Unity Grammar we value the total wellbeing of our students. When we talk about wellbeing we are looking at a student’s physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health. We believe there are opportunities at Unity Grammar to further develop our students’ wellbeing for them to become well-rounded global citizens. One component which we are going to address in 2018 is our student’s physical wellbeing. We are currently advertising for an additional three PDHPE and Sport staff to begin in 2018. Under the guidance of Mr Fazan Rana, PDHPE and Sport Coordinator, we intend to further develop our students’ physical skills and provide more opportunities to participate in sport. We will provide our students with qualified PE staff, who will be teaching PE and Sport from Kindergarten onwards. We plan to conduct Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics carnivals, as well as enter both individuals and teams in a range of school and club competitions. I’m sure you will agree our students will be excited by this new program at Unity Grammar and we look forward to both our girls and boys achieving personal and team success in the future. Second: To establish our relationship with fellow human beings on the foundation of Ihsaan. Starting with parents, who deserve the highest respect after worshipping Allah. The verse mentions nine categories of people. The list includes almost every type of person one can meet in his/her life: “And to parents do good (Ihsaan), and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbour, the neighbour farther away, the companion at your side, the traveller, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful” [An-Nisaa: 36]. According to this verse, our relationships with all these types of people must be based on the principle of Ihsaan, which means excellent or best of manners. This indeed shows the importance which Islam gives to the respect and kindness to others. However, the first part of the verse indicates that, in order for us to be able to establish successful relationships with all types of people based on the most excellent manner (Ihsaan), we need to reach the quality of Ihsaan (excellence) in our relationship with Allah. This can only be achieved by worshipping Allah with complete sincerity and submission to His will. Week 1 - 2 Term 4 2017

26 students have officially commenced the HSC Year 12 Modern History course this term. Whilst learning the core unit of World War One, students re-enacted conditions of the trenches by creating their own trenches.

Our new Year 12 cohort were presented with their 2018 souvenir varsity jackets which they can wear with a sense of belonging and pride in their final year as Unity Grammar students. We wish them all the best in their journey towards the HSC over the next year.

One of our dear students was ill and required to undergo a surgery. Our Unity Grammar values were practised in person by the Year 10 boys who came together to support their peer.We are so proud of the boys who organised a surprise gift and dinner for him. Many thanks to the Hawchar family for their amazing hospitality in hosting the boys for a fantastic dinner. The boys then insisted that they also visit him in hospital to personally express their well wishes and duaa. We ask Allah to give him a full and speedy recovery.

Message From Senior SchoolAssalamu Alaikum,A warm welcome to Term 4 for all senior students and their families in what is a very busy term which also marks the first term of the HSC cohort of 2018. It is important to make a solid start so that a firm foundation can be built to achieve academic success. In particular, with the summer vacation looming it is essential that students are focused, well prepared for work and submit all tasks by their due date to build momentum heading into the 2018 HSC. In this exciting term, students can look forward to a number of excursions including the Physics skills workshop at the University of Sydney and the Centrepoint Tower Business Studies excursion.

I leave you with my best wishes, thoughts and prayers for our 2017 students currently undergoing their HSC exams. May they have every success and I am certain that we will have some outstanding results to share with the Unity Grammar community at the end of this term.

Mr Osman KaroliaHead of Senior School

Thanks to all staff and parent volunteers for their assistance.
