PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Celebrant:

Loving and gracious God, you sent your only Son, Jesus Christ, to be

born of a woman and to die on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.

Bless all women for who we pray this day, especially the women of this

church and those throughout the world as we celebrate and honor their

love, courage, commitment, faith, struggle and success, as we say; Lord

in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray that God will help each woman present find her own special

gift and mission. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all women who face prejudice, inequality and gender dis-

parities. Help us see and to face the discrimination against women in all

the many forms it may take. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for women who have been beaten, tortured, threatened, and

cannot tell. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for women who are in anguish because they do not have the

resources to care for their children adequately. Lord in your mercy, hear

our prayer.

We pray for women who are casualties of war and the arms trade. Lord

in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for women who mourn the violent deaths of loved ones. Lord

in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all women who live in fear of their husbands, fathers, and

forces that control their lives. Help them to be empowered to be their

true selves through your everlasting love and faith. Lord in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

We pray, O Lord, for those who suffer affliction of soul, mind, or body, we remember before you especially those we name now in our hearts Ar-lene, Bonnie, Inge, Vesta, Bob, Randolph, Jorge and those we named in our sharing time; Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Welcome in your divine pleasure all who have died, especially, all

women who died of cancer, …, (Pause) (you may remember their

names silently or aloud) that they may have a place in your eternal do-

mains. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

5

Lord we lift up in prayer your servants Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury,

Michael, our presiding bishop; Gregory, our bishop; Orlando, our vic-

ar; Bill, Burnet, Pepe, and Jamie our clergy, that they may be faithful min-

isters of your Word and Sacraments. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all clergy spouses, especially: Laura Lee, Martha, Paula, Da-

vid and Olga. We thank them for suppor ting their husbands and wife;

we ask God to strengthen their marriage and their families everyday; send

people to encourage them in their daily life, and may your Holy Spirit em-

power and equip them to do your will. Lord, in your mercy, hear our pray-

er.

We pray, O Lord, for the men and women of our Armed Forces, saying:

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the

men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad, especially :

Warren, Janesse, Abdullah, Joshua, Preston, Shane, Caleb, Junior,

Chelsea, Tyrone, Melva, Dilson, Paul, James, Santiago, Jon, Larissa,

Rawlyn, Emily, Noah, Chirstela, Ashley, Diana and Angel. Defend them

day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials

and temptations; give them courage to face the perils, which beset

them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they

may be. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Celebrant:

Almighty God, you invited Mary Magdalen, Joanna, Susanna, Salome, and

many others to become your disciples in times when it was uncommon for

women to be disciples of a Rabi; you inspired Harriett Tubman to help free

the segregation, Susan B. Anthony to lead the way for women’s r ight,

Margaret Thatcher to lead a nation, Rigoberta Menchu to defend the

rights of the indigenous people, Malala Yousafzai to defend the rights of

education for girls in her country. You also inspired many women of this

parish to lead important ministries in this church, in your Name and for

your glory. Bless each one and may you use their courage, their faith in

you to inspire other women in our community, our nation and in the world.

We ask all this through your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and

reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirt, one God, now and forever.

Amen.
