The Pastor’s Corner

Our Condolences to...

The Family of Mr. James Cooper, who passed from this world on Monday, May 16th. His funeral Mass will take

place at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church on Monday May 23rd at 11am.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who

believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. — John 3:16

My dear Parishioners,

Every time we enter the church we bless ourselves “In the

name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit;”

words and action that can become so commonplace that we

may forget their true significance. Today, Trinity Sunday, is

a good time to reflect on the reality of our lives, the true

meaning of our calling. Blessing ourselves in the name of

the Blessed Trinity signifies a relationship—that of the

Three Persons in one God with one another and also the re-

lationship we have with those Three Persons in the one God.

Catholics have traditionally attributed a specific manner by

which we relate to each Divine Person. We relate to the

Father as our Creator; to the Son, as our Savior; to The Holy

Spirit as our Sanctifier. To think about that is both bewilder-

ing and mind boggling. The God who is in so many ways a

mystery but who has revealed himself to us as Love reaches

out to embrace us and draw us ever more intimately into that

divine swirl of self-giving that we may call “communion.”

By creating us, God claims us as God’s own; by saving us,

God rescues us from our worst selves; and by sanctifying us,

God secures us within that divine embrace.

When I bless myself “In the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit,” I am acknowledging that I am

not my own person but God’s. Frightening? Yes! Awe-

some? Absolutely! How could I ever experience greater

security in this life or in the next?

— Fr. Jerome, C.P.

CHURCH ETIQUETTE

Children in Church II: Because of church and insurance

regulations about their safety and protection, children should

never be permitted to wander from their parents in or around

church facilities. They should always be with their parents or

an older member of the family. Young children should never

go outside the church building unaccompanied nor should

children under ten years of age go to the restrooms unless

accompanied by a parent or older adult. Ushers and Ministers

of Hospitality should insist that this regulation be observed.

wellbeing of minors is not a priority in our society. We must

every precaution to assure the safety of all our children.

A Day to Rejoice and Give Thanks! Jesus shows his love for you by coming to

you in Holy Communion.

Congratulations and Prayers to all the children and youth who will receive the

First Communion this Saturday, May 28th at 1:00pm at Saint Paul of the Cross.

I am the vine, you are the branches.

Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do

nothing. - John 15:5

No po-drí an soportarlo.
