Stewardship Reflections Reflexiones sobre la Corresponsabilidad

Jesus told us “whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.” Every day we are presented opportunities to help someone. Every day we have the opportunity to see the face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others. Every day we pass by someone in need. Pray for the strength and courage to be the answer to someone’s prayer.

Message from our Pastor

STEWARDSHIP - CORRESPONSABILIDAD

My dear Parishioners,

With today’s muted celebration of Passion Sunday of the Palms, we enter the most sacred week of the entire year when we once again commemorate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our liturgies, from the Blessing and Procession of Palms before the celebration of the Eucharist to the Great Easter Vigil culminating in the cele-bration of the first Easter Mass, are once again curtailed, limiting our celebrations to the bare essentials. But the difference be-tween this year’s celebration of the Holy Week and last Year’s is PEOPLE!

Last year, only the priests, Deacon George and Diaconal candidates Merlin Todd and David Patterson, were involved; the mem-bers of the Assembly were missing. At that time the whole country was in the early stages of dealing with the disease and so we were extremely cautious about exposing ourselves and others to it. It was, and still is to some extent, a great and frightening men-ace snatching so many young and old lives away from us. As we begin Holy Week this year, we have experienced much and bene-fited greatly by the guidelines and restrictions placed on us by our governmental, scientific, and church leaders. In Georgia, we have been and continue to able to gather in groups no greater than 50 for worship and other events provided we observe the proper precautions. And so, though we cannot accommodate everyone, we can invite you, the parishioners, to be present and take an active part in the ceremonies. Meanwhile, we were blessed to be able to stream our Sunday Masses from our Website to many of you in your homes and others beyond the parish, keeping you informed and involved in parish life and worship. Though we miss being with and conversing with one another personally, we must be thankful for the technology and those who know how to use it to bring us together in new ways. We must be thankful for the goodness of a God who never abandons us but always and often in surprisingly unexpected ways responds to our plight and rewards our pleas.

We must remain ever vigilant doing our part to stem the force of COVID-19, getting vaccinated as quickly as possible, continuing to wear our masks outside our homes and in public places, washing our hands frequently, observing distancing, avoiding crowded places, and, by doing so, caring for the common good. But as Catholics and Christians, we know that we can and must do more by praying to the God who rules the universe and who also claims each of us as his own, by listening to his Son, the Incarnate Word, and following the inspiration of his Spirit impelling and enabling us to love one another as God loves us. We know that there are viruses in this world more deadly than COVID and its variations that slay the spirit and deaden the desire to truly love and serve one another as members of the same family. The efforts we have put forth this Lent through prayer, fasting and alms-giving have not been wasted; they have strengthened us to recognize and do battle with those dreadful viruses nesting in our world. As Jesus returned to Jerusalem on that first Palm Sunday determined to accomplish the purpose for which he had come into this world, let us join him in spirit this Holy Week through the last hours of his life culminating in his agony and death on the cross and burial in a tomb not his own. But let us look with faith beyond the tomb to his wondrous resurrection, trusting that he calls us to share in his risen glory even now in this life and fully in the life to come. —Fr. Jerome, C.P.

Second Collection Archdiocesan Seminarians April 3-4: As Saint John Paul II said, “The responsibility for the seminary belongs to the entire Christian community”. In the Archdiocese of Atlanta we have been blessed with almost 50 men who are responding to a call for priestly service to the people of God. Though this generous gift of God is a blessing, it does pose a challenge to us. These men need both our financial support and our prayers. Please give generously to this Collection next weekend.

Muchas Gracias.
