“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Christ cautions us often concerning our sense of conversion and timing. It has a lot to do with procrastination — that is, putting something off or delay-ing something which needs to be accomplished. Most of us understand the importance of living up to Christ’s expectations and living life in a way to which He has called us. In other words, we comprehend that we need to be His disciples, but we seem to find excuses and reasons not to totally commit to that. That is exact-ly the issue Jesus is addressing in today’s Gospel from St. Matthew, which is essentially the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Are we truly prepared for the return of Christ, the Second Coming? In a sense it has everything to do with death. We may not wish to think about it but we do know that death is inevitable, and have we done every-thing we need to do to be prepared? It was St. Augustine of Hippo who said, “God has prom-ised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination.” Like the Virgins in the parable, we cannot wait. Now, this very moment, is the time for us to do what God has called us to do, and that is live lives of stewardship in service and love to others. There are indeed no promises about to-morrow, but Christ has offered us hope for eternal life. Have we done everything we need to do to be ready?

Book of Remembrance You may write the names of your deceased loved ones in the Book of Remembrance on the stand near the Holy Family shrine. This is our way of reaching out to the survivors of the deceased who need our prayerful support, especially at Christmas and New Years.

Gregorian Masses for a Loved One

You may request a set of Gregorian Masses for someone who is living or deceased. At the time of death, the set of Gregorian Masses can begin to be offered. This practice in the Catholic Church dates back to the 6th cen-tury. During the 6th century, a deceased monk from St. Andrew’s Monastery in Rome (founded by St. Gregory) re-portedly appeared to a friend and requested that 30 Mass-es be said to release his soul from purgatory. After the Masses were completed, the monk appeared again to de-clare he had entered heaven. Since that time, Catholics have continued the tradition of celebrating 30 consecutive Masses for one person to free his or her soul from purgato-ry.

To request a set of Gregorian Masses, send the name of the deceased or living person, along with a check for $150.00 for the 30 Masses made payable to CNEWA, to: Catholic Near East Welfare Association, 1011 First Avenue, New York, NY 10022.

Fr. Solanus Casey to Be Beatified

Fr. Solanus Casey, a Capuchin Franciscan Friar, is scheduled to be beatified, Sat., Nov. 18 at Ford Field in Detroit. The beatification Mass is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The miracle attributed to Casey was received by a woman who prayed at his tomb in Detroit and was instant-ly cured her of her lifelong “incurable genetic skin dis-ease,” reported the Michigan Catholic. Among the thou-sands of healings attributed to Fr. Solanus during and after his lifetime, Pope Francis recognized the authenticity of this miracle required for the friar to be elevated from “venerable” to “blessed” after extensive study by the Vati-can’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints, including

panels of doctors and theologians.

May She Rest in Peace!

Hugo officiating. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to Wounded Warriors, Se-ton House, or a charity of the donor's choice in care of Bustard's Funeral Home.
