All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE Celebrant God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus

Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all.

All Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen.

Celebrant Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis

THE LITURGY OF THE WORDFirst Reading Proverbs 8:1, 22-31

This is the word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God

Second Reading Colossians 1:15-20

This is the word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God

Hymn 499: Sebastian Temple. Copyright © 1967 OCP Publications.MAKE ME A CHANNEL OF YOUR PEACE. Where there is hatred let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord; and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

O life. Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy.

Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.Remain standing and turn to face the Gospel:

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Hymn 91: Richard Gillard. Copyright © 1977 Scripture in Song

BROTHER, SISTER, LET ME SERVE YOU, let me be as Christ to you; pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant, too.

We are pilgrims on a journey, fellow trav’llers on the road; we are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load.

I will hold the Christlight for you in the night-time of your fear; I will hold my hand out to you, speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping; when you laugh, I’ll laugh with you. I will share your joy and sorrow till we’ve seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven, we shall find such harmony, born of all we’ve known together of Christ’s love and agony.

Brother, sister, let me serve you, let me be as Christ to you; pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant, too.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.

On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

Praise to you Lord Jesus:

All Dying you destroyed our death,Rising you restored our life:Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that daywhen your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your

people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

All Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

because we all share in one bread.

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they

will gladly offer you this ministry.

A few weeks ago Lizzie from the Lighthouse Project shared with us how they need volunteers to begin a lunch club at St Margaret’s school and bake cakes for the teachers there. We’ve had a few response but could do with some more - so if you would like to help with either of these initiatives please do let Lizzie know by contacting her at [email protected]

It’s time to return last year’s Palm Crosses so that they can be turned into the ash we use on Ash Wednesday (14th February). Please do bring them back to church and leave them on the table in the corner by the north door. Thank you!

Following on from last year’s The Year of the Bible the diocese of Chichester is now launching The Year of Prayer to help encourage all of us in our prayer life – something that lies close to the heart of having a deep, sustaining and meaningful relationship with God. Throughout this year St Margaret’s will be running various events and activities (see the Year of Prayer Programme flyer) that will help us all grow in our pray life – do put the dates in your diaries now so that you don’t miss out!

Men - St Margaret’s School needs you! St Margaret’s School is looking for male readers to come into school and read with some of the children.
