Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield

Sunday 22nd October 2017 Trinity 19

All are welcome to St Margaret’s and we encourage all to take part fully in this service. If you have mobility issues that make it difficult for you to

come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please notify our sides-people, and we will come to you.

Please do stay for coffee served at the back of church after the service. There is a toilet at the back of church should you need to use it during the

service.

THE GATHERINGWe stand and sing:Hymn 628: Joachim Neander.

PRAISE TO THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY, the King of creation!O my soul, praise him, for He is thy health and salvation. All you who hear, now to his temple draw near;joining in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth, shieldeth thee gently from harm, or when fainting sustaineth: hast thou not seen how thy heart’s wishes have been granted in what he ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee, surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee:ponder anew all the Almighty can do,if to the end he befriend thee.Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in us adore him!

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him.Let the ‘Amen’ sound from his people again, gladly for ay we adore him.

THE GREETINGCelebrant The Lord be with youAll and also with you

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is

this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all.

All Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen

Celebrant Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Gloria in Excelsis A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Amen.

THE COLLECTCelebrant O God, forasmuch as without you we are not able to

please you; mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our heart; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

FATHER, I PLACE INTO YOUR HANDSthe things I cannot do. Father, I place into your hands the things that I’ve been through. Father, I place into your hands the way that I should go, for I know I always can trust you.

Father, I place into your hands my friends and family. Father, I place into your hands the things that trouble me. Father, I place into your hands the person I would be, for I know I always can trust you.

Father, we love to see your face, we love to hear your voice. Father, we love to sing your praise and in your name rejoice. Father, we love to walk with you and in your presence rest, for we know we always can trust you.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Father, I want to be with you and do things you do. Father, I want to speak the words that you are speaking too. Father, I want to love the ones that you will draw to you, for I know that I am one with you.

Remain standing and turn to face the Gospel:

Hymn 772: Edward Plumptre. Copyright © The Executors or Dr Basil Harwood.THY HAND, O GOD, HAS GUIDED thy flock, from age to age; the wondrous tale is written, full clear on ev’ry page;

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

our forebears owned thy goodness, and we their deeds record; and both of this bear witness: one Church, one Faith, one Lord.Thy heralds brought glad tidings to greatest, as to least; they bade them rise, and hasten to share the great King’s feast; and this was all their teaching, in ev’ry deed and word, to all alike proclaiming: one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

When shadows thick were falling, and all seemed sunk in night, thou Lord, didst send thy servants, thy chosen sons of light. On them and on thy people thy plenteous grace was poured, and this was still their message: one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

Through many a day of darkness, through many a scene of strife, the faithful few fought bravely to guard the nation’s life. Their gospel of redemption, sin pardoned, hope restored, was all in this enfolded: one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

And we, shall we be faithless? Shall hearts fail, hands hang down? Shall we evade the conflict, and cast away our crown? Not so: in God’s deep counsels some better thing is stored; we will maintain, unflinching, one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

Thy mercy will not fail us, nor leave thy work undone; with thy right hand to help us, the vict’ry shall be won; and then by all creation, thy name shall be adored. And this shall be their anthem: One church, one Faith, one Lord. “At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!”

Celebrant Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.

All All things come from you, and of your own do we give you.

We sit or stand for:The Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord is hereAll His Spirit is with us.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give thanks and praise.Celebrant Father, you made the world and love your creation.

You gave your Son Jesus Christ to be our Saviour. His dying and rising have set us free from sin and death. And so we gladly thank you, with saints and angels praising you, and singing:

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.

On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

Praise to you Lord Jesus:All Dying you destroyed our death,

Rising you restored our life:Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that daywhen your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever.

All Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

are yours now and forever. Amen. The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of CommunionCelebrant He whom the universe could not contain is present to

us in this bread. He who redeemed us and called us by name now meets us in this cup. So take this bread and this wine. In them God comes to us so that we may come to God.

We sing the Agnus Dei.

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdLamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

All are welcome to either come and receive Communion or a blessing. If you would like a blessing rather than to receive Communion (the bread and

wine) then please keep hold of your service sheet as you approach the servers at front of the church.

Laying on of hands for healing is offered in the south aisle chapel during the distribution of communion. This ministry is offered for your own

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they will gladly offer you this ministry.

MAKE ME A CHANNEL OF YOUR PEACE. Where there is hatred let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord; and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

O life. Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy.

Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

The Prayers after CommunionCelebrant Holy and blessed God, you have fed us with the body

and blood of your Son and filled us with your Holy Spirit: may we honour you, not only with our lips but in lives dedicated to the service of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen

THE BLESSINGCelebrant The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep

your hearts and minds, in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS, stand up before his cross, an instrument of torture inflicting pain and loss; transformed by his obedience

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

to God’s redeeming plan, the cross was overpowered by Christ, both God and man.Stand up, stand up for Jesus, be counted as his own; his gospel of forgiveness he cannot spread alone. The love which draws us to him, he calls us out to share; he calls us to the margins to be his presence there.

Stand up, stand for Jesus,in faith and hope be strong, stand firm for right and justice, opposed to sin and wrong. Give comfort to the wounded, and care for those in pain, for Christ, in those who suffer, is crucified again.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, who reigns as King of kings, be ready for the challenge of faith his kingship brings. He will not force obedience, he gives to each the choice to turn from all that’s holy, or in his love rejoice.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, give courage to the weak, be unashamed to praise him, be bold his name to speak. Confront the cross unflinching. Christ’s love has set us free; he conquered death for ever and lives eternally.

THE DISMISSALCelebrant We go into the world to walk in God’s light,

to rejoice in God’s love, and to reflect God’s glory.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. All In the name of Christ.

Name Badge Sunday! – 29th October – one of the things that came out of our Strategic planning away day was how we ‘meet and greet’ each other in Church, and whilst we know a lot of people, it’s hard remembering names! On the 29th October as you come into church, you will be asked your name and given a sticker with it on. You will also be encouraged to sit somewhere different (if you are used to sitting in the same place) unless of course you have specific needs. This is nothing to be worried about and I ask that you embrace this activity, and look forward to meeting and remembering more people’s names (both during the Peace and over Coffee after the service) – ‘Our brothers and Sisters in Christ’. Thank you, Rob.

The next FIISH family service will be held on 5th November; a week earlier than usual. On Remembrance Sunday, 12th November, the Scouts have a service at 9:30, followed by the 11 am service which will commence by the war memorial.

Shereen Hazman from Streetlight has arranged to come and be our guest preacher on the 5th November. Streetlight UK work with the sex workers of Crawley, Gatwick and Surrey (an industry that has grown by 25% in the last year) to support them in their many and sometimes desperate needs. Please do join us and hear how we can support Streetlight UK in their wonderful work.
