Welcome to the 2018 Central Texas Wildfire Academy Sponsored by the Texas A&M Forest Service and hosted by the Dam Volunteer Fire Department DATE: February 14 – 18, 2018 LOCATION: Camp Bowie Training Center 5611 FM 45S Brownwood, TX 76801 COST: Cost of courses is $55/day and includes the materials, and breakfast and lunch meals. For full course cost, please see the registration form. REGISTRATION: Registration begins December 6, 2017. Early registration is encouraged, as class size is limited. Payment must be made prior to attending the class. Registrations are due by 1700 on February 7, 2018. Substitutions are welcome by close of registration; however walk-ins will not be accepted because of limited class size. CHECK-IN: Begins at 1000 on February 13, 2018. You may check-in for you class the day before. You only need to check-in once. LODGING: Billets are available on the base on a first come, first serve basis. If this is the option you choose, please bring blankets and sheets, or sleeping bag, and pillow. Don’t forget to bring toiletries and towels. MEALS: Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Dinner is on your own. This event will provide training to volunteer and agency wildland firefighters. The Central Texas Wildfire Academy is striving to offer a variety of training for all those dedicated to protecting lives and property. The Texas Interagency Wildfire and Incident Management Academies provide training to wildland firefighters from Texas and through the United States to meet National Wildfire Coordination Group Standards. Class Descriptions

S-130/S-190 Basic Firefighter Training This introductory course is designed to train entry-level firefighters. The student will gain an understanding of the basic incident management organization, firefighting techniques, suppression equipment, safety, strategy/tactics, along with basic fire behavior. Field exercises will be performed for valuable hands-on training. This course is designed for entry-level firefighters. *Prerequisite(s): NONE **Limited to 30 students LIVE FIRE EXERCISE!! Full PPE is required to participate. This includes nomex shirt and pants (or coveralls), leather gloves, eye protection, helmet, leather boots, fire pack, and fire shelter.

S-212 Wildland Fire Chain Saws This course provides an introduction to the function, maintenance, and use of internal combustion engine powered chain saws, and their tactical wildland fire application. Field exercises support entry level training for firefighters with little or no previous experience operating a chain saw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fire line situations. This class is targeted to those desiring to be qualified as firefighter type 1 (FFT1), incident commander type 5 (ICT5), or felling boss (FELB). **Prerequisite(s): Qualified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2); satisfactory completion of pre-course work. **Limited to 20 students

S-219 Firing Operations This course introduces the roles and responsibilities of a firing boss (FIRB) and outlines duties of other personnel who may engage firing operations. The course also discusses and illustrated common firing devise and techniques. This course now has a blended approach to learning, which means students are required to complete the online portions of the course prior to taking the instructor-led training. **Prerequisite(s): FFT2 qualified and successful completion of required online training. **Limited to 20 students

FIELD EXERCISE: Full PPE is required to participate. This includes nomex shirt and pants (or coveralls), leather gloves, eye protection, helmet, leather boots, fire pack, and fire shelter.

BEAST Basic Engine and Suppression Tactics This course will introduce students to basic wildland engine suppression tactics in both the rural and wildland urban interface settings. Students will also be introduced to basic engine terminology, structure triage, hose operations, and foam and water use practices to optimize the water available. The course consists of 8 hours of classroom studies and 8 hours of field work. *Not an NWCG course **Prerequisite(s): NONE **Limited to 20 students FIELD EXERCISE: Full PPE is required to participate. This includes nomex shirt and pants (or coveralls), leather gloves, eye protection, helmet, leather boots, fire pack, and fire shelter.
