Season’s Greetings. We havereached the time of the yearwhen family and friends gettogether, open presents, drinkeggnog and decorate our treesand homes. Do all the thingstraditionally have been done foras long as we can remember. Hasthe commercialization gone toofar? We have forgotten what thisseason is truly about. Canspiritual beliefs really beoffensive to some? We and theworld are celebrating the birthof gods only son sent here tolead and forgive us and to offersalvation to all. With that spiritbrings us a time of reflection, heals and fills us with love forone another that we only canhope will surpass the season. SoI say to you ….Merry Christmas! Unfortunately, we can onlyblame ourselves for the popularseason’s greetings instead ofMerry Christmas. I’m withsenior America 62% who preferMerry Christmas. Our children18 years and up whom could careless either way. Take a specialfew minutes maybe at yourChristmas meal to pass on toyour families the true joy of theholidays. For some there will be no joythis Christmas. Some familiescannot afford to buy presentsfor their children nor have atraditional meal. Or their familymembers won’t be home duringthe holidays or love ones haverecently passed. To those, openyour heart that only this timeof year can bring. Extend outyour hand and pass along to thegrieving and less fortunate.Doing so will fill you withChristmas spirit and joy that isgreater than any gift you couldpossibly receive. Our 30th President CalvinCoolidge once said “Christmasis not a time or season, but astate of mind. To cherish peaceand goodwill, to be plenteous inmercy, is to have the real spiritof Christmas”.

Fraternally, Dana W. Williams

Greetings Members,

I hope you all had a goodThanksgiving Day. TheChristmas Holiday Season isin full swing now, how fast itcame upon us. The memoryof summer still lingers, especially when we continuedto have those late heatwaves. The leaves arefalling, rain and cold replacethe heat. Our minds are nowfilled with thoughts of malls, presents, lights, decorations,Xmas trees. Need to be here, have to go there! Hustle!Bustle!Take a deep breath, a sigh ofrelief, and remember all thosegood things you have done allyear. T’is the season ofgiving, but to us Elks, givingis what we do best. All ourtime, efforts and donationsthat contribute to the Elkscharitable projects continue tobring relief, joy and happinessto those less fortunate thanus. Charity is a virtue, and forall that you do, I applaud andthank you. December bringsus together for some greatevents at the Lodge. Hello Fellow Members,

Holidays are here and we hope this article finds you in good spirits.Historically the summer months have been a struggle trying to payour bills, and we have been forced in the past to go to the floor andask for money. The good news is that we haven’t had to ask formoney this fraternal year. We struggle some months but continue tomake it. Going into the winter months are typically better for ourfinances and we hope for better months ahead, and will continue towork on improving our position. At the time of reading this article, there will only be about 3 ½months left in this fraternal year, and there will be an opportunity forour members to step up and take a leadership role in the lodge. There will be Trustee, as well as other officer positions availablestarting in April 2013. If you would like to know more on how youcan serve your lodge, talk with one of the lodge officers, any of uswould be glad to sit down and discuss the different positions withyou. As always, we have lots of work to be done around the lodge, andnever enough help to get it all done, so please contact Trustee JerryWarren if you have a few hours on any day you can help out. Thanks to all the members that have already helped, it’s reallyappreciated! We just installed an ATM in the lodge for your convenience; it’slocated in the corridor heading into the hall, next to the Clubmanager’s office. By the time you read this article the Hall will havebeen painted, Thanks to the Martin’s for heading this up!Happy Holidays,Board of Trustees

As we enjoy this holiday season, many of us findourselves working at various events at our Lodges. It is atime of year when the guiding principles of our Ordershould manifest themselves with outreach to ourMembers and communities. Perhaps your Lodgesponsors a free dinner for those who may not have aplace to go, or perhaps a food drive for those who arestruggling to feed themselves. Some Lodges put together an entire holidaycelebration for families, including dinner, decorations andpresents for the kids. We reach out to our veterans, whether they are far from home or in local V.A.hospitals, with cards and packages. And there arealways events at our Lodges for our Members tocelebrate the fellowship that binds us together as Elks.Regardless of what your Lodge chooses to do, pleaseremember to be a “Beacon of Hope” to those whom youtouch during this busy time of year. We are two-thirds of the way through our fraternalyear and the various goals you set for your year need tobe evaluated to ensure that you are on track to achievethem. By now, your charitable goals should be eithercomplete or within reach. Has your Lodge reached theGER per capita goal for ENF of $4.50? Remind yourMembers that donations can be made online until 11:59p.m. Central Time Dec. 31 to count for the 2012 taxyear. Review your monthly membership goals to see if youneed an extra push for Members. The goal of +1 isattainable with a concerted effort of your Members. Lookat your Lodge activities to make sure you are providingMembers with the fraternal support which is so importantto an active Lodge. And don’t forget to celebrate theachievements of your Members and Lodge. Share yourmilestones both internally via your newsletter andexternally with photos and articles for the local media.Show them that “Elks Care - Elks Share!” Venita and I wish all of you and your families a joyousand peaceful holiday season. We have met so manywonderful Elks in our travels, and we know that you trulycare about our great Order. Thank you for everything youdo to promote Elkdom. Happy holidays!
