As I sit here in the lodge listeningto music on this Friday night, howawesome it feels to be aroundfriends. What would we dowithout friends? We have friendsat work, friends at church, friendsfrom high school, some of ourneighbors we call friends, but nonecompare to the friends we havehere at the lodge. Here, we allhave one thing in common. Weare all MEMBERS!I would like to thank all themembers and friends that helpedme with my first Family FunNight. It was truly a team effort, and I couldn’t have done it alone. If you attended, I hope you had alot of fun picking your favoritehorse with a familiar name. Also, thank you for participating in the‘floppy’ hat contest. There werea lot of unique and colorful hats.It turned out to be a successfulnight for the lodge, so thank you.Our wonderful friend andchaplain, Charlene, coordinatedour Mother’s Day ceremony. Forthose of you that missed theceremony, it was certainlymemorable. It was my firstMother’s Day ceremony here atthe Elks, and I found it to be veryheart felt. It was a great way tohonor moms. I will definitely planto attend next year with my momand my sons.As we head into the summermonths, let’s continue buildingfriendships. Let’s spreadBrotherly Love by being positiveand speaking words of kindnessto one another. A kind thought, word or deed can be very muchappreciated and motivating forone to get more involved. Let’scontinue to fellowship with oneother at our Monday ‘No Frills’dinners, Flag Day, BBQ for Vets, and at the ELK of the Year - SteakOut. Let carry-on to send smilesand laughter throughout the lodge.Let the FUN continue!! ‘He who is a friend is always afriend, and a brother is born forthe time of stress.’ Proverbs 17:17

The Benevolent And ProtectiveOrder of Elks is a 2 sided fraternalorder, dedicated to philanthropynationally, locally and with its ownmembers. The other side of ourorder is in fact a social club. A greatgroup of people that believe andlive by a higher standard. Withthat said, we still at times doencounter people in our lives thatwe feel have harmed, cheated oreven betrayed us. How as we asElks handle this type of situation? Is it part of us to hold grudges? Apart of our cardinal principalswould include forgiveness.Forgiveness is one of those traitsthat we bestow not for otherpeople but for ourselves. Theinternal animosities that we wouldcarry within us would be more harmto ourselves than to others. PastorJoyce Meyers once said “To befull of bitterness and unforgivenessis like drinking poison hoping itwill hurt your enemies.” It isclinically proven that havingforgiveness in your life not onlyimproves your mental health butalso physically. It reduces bloodpressure, cholesterol, stresshormones and improves yourquality of sleep. If you are the typethat holds these grudges, animosities or dwell on the pastwrongs in your life, your presentand future happiness will beseverely curtailed. Allow yourselfto accept forgiveness with an openmind. Psychologist Robert Enrightstates “Forgiveness helps quietanger so it doesn’t spill over ontoinnocent others”. Though it is idealto “forgive and forget” is almostimpossible. That is achieved by avery few. For the majority of usforgiveness doesn’t meanforgetting literally. Forgiveness iswhen you do remember, you do itamiably. There is very little youcan do about your past. For ahealthier future forgive those whoyou believe have done wrong toyou. Concentrate on your currenthappiness. This will open the doormuch easier to forgive. WriterRobert Brault once wrote “Lifebecomes easier when you learn toaccept an apology you never got”

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving oneanother, as God in Christ forgaveyou. Ephesians 4:32

As Rodgers and Hammerstein sang, “June is busting out all over!” Junefeatures a special event at our Lodges – Flag Day. I have seen manycelebrations for our Stars and Stripes, but I have always been most impressedby those done in our Local Lodges. Some share the history of Old Glorythrough their collection of antique flags. Some have veterans from everybranch of service who participate in the ceremony. Boy Scout troops arefrequently asked to take part. But no matter what form it takes, we all areproud of our flag and what it represents, and this celebration always carriesgreat meaning for us as Elks. Be sure to make this a special day for yourMembers and guests alike.

Next month we will be in Reno, Nevada, for our 149th Grand Lodge Session. Tothe Exalted Rulers of our Order, you will be the official representative of yourLodge. As such, you have a responsibility to review the proposed changes tothe laws of the Order, which have been sent to your Lodge, and to havediscussed them with your Members before arriving. You will be asked to voteon these issues and report back to your Lodge.

But you will also be asked to vote on issues that will not have been previouslysent to your Lodge. These are frequently housekeeping issues to resolveconflicts in the statutes and have been proposed by a Grand LodgeCommittee. However, sometimes there will be discussion on the floor of theGrand Lodge and points made on issues that were not considered by yourLodge. Fortunately, we are not robots – we can listen, reason and understandwhen information is given to us. And then we can act on that information. So Iask each of you to pay close attention to the proposed changes to the laws ofour Order this year, discuss them with your District and State leadership at theconvention and then vote as your good sense would dictate. In this manner, wewill continue to keep our Order up to date with the changing needs of ourmembership. Please don’t come to the convention with your mind made up, orperhaps as instructed how to vote by your Lodge. There will be a lot ofdiscussion, and you need to be free to act on the information in a way thatmost benefits your Lodge and the Order.

While at Grand Lodge, be sure to take advantage of the wealth of informationavailable to you. There are always ENF and membership seminars, andcommittee promotional materials on the exhibit floor. Take time to talk to yourfellow attendees from other Lodges and states about what they are doing. Ifthere is an issue that concerns you, seek someone out to ask your questions.Grand Lodge provides you with many expert resources and experienced staff.Make good use of your time with these Elks. It will stand you in good steadgoing forward. See you in Reno!

House Committee NewsTo my fellow Elks,

We are into our second month already and things

are looking good. Let’s look forward to many more

months of the same. The kitchen hood cleaning has

been done and we are going to set up a schedule to

keep ahead of any future problems.

Thank you to all members involved in our projects

and fun times for your involvement and enthusiasm!

We are working on replacing our old steam table

and the refrigerator drawers that are next to the

steam table.

Maintenance schedules need to be set up for our

air handling units, all coolers and ice makers, and

sprinkler and parking lot maintenance.

Anyone interested in one of these areas please let

us know.

Have a great month!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Friends,

We received our final year-end numbers for ourlast fraternal year April 2012 – March 2013. Weended up $1,119 down for the whole year. Greatnews as we were down over $80,000 the prioryear for the same period. Our club manager hasdone an outstanding job on getting our Hall andElks Cove leased out, this is a critical part to ourongoing success.

Our Hall is leased out @ 54% for Friday &Saturday nights > June – August. Make sure yourfriends and family know about our Hall and ElksCove. Our goal is to be booked 100% of the time….

We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and feelconfident that we can continue with success. Wewill be updating our menu soon to discontinue allslow moving items. Another area that we will befocusing on is the bar. We’re in the process ofanalyzing all of our cost to purchase liquor and alsothe amount we sell each drink to our members. It’s critical that we’re profitable at the bar.

Volunteers Always Needed
