Columbus Day- Students watched a clip on Christopher Columbus and then were to locate one fact using a kid friendly search engine of their choice.

K-6th 1.1.8 Demonstrate mastery of technology

Veteran’s Day- Students researched Veteran’s Day ‘s origin. We completed an art activity on Tuesday and researched on Thursday. Art was displayed at the West Jefferson Elementary Veteran’s Day Program.

K-6th 4.1.2 Read widely and fluently to make connections with self, the world and previous reading

Halloween- students watched a clip from the History channel about the history of Halloween. We completed an art activity to go along with the movie as well as played interactive Halloween games in the computer lab.

Reptiles- Students chose one reptile to study. Using library resources and the computer lab, students located 5 facts for the reptile they chose. Students used the gathered information to make a poster with the illustrations.

Pablo Picasso- Students chose one Picasso painting to research. Students visited the sites listed on the WIKI to gather information and displayed their findings on a research sheet along with a sketch of the painting.

4th- 6th Grade 1.1.8 Demonstrate mastery of technology Read, view, and listen for information.

5th and 6th Grade Wonder Unit- Students continued listening to Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Each week students complete an accompanying activity while listening.

5th and 6th Grade 4.1.2 Read widely and fluently to make connections with self, the world and previous reading

November Reading Month- Follow Your Dreams – Students explored various careers through online websites, books, and interviews. Older students worked through Mynextmove.com’s interest survey to be matched with careers. Students in grades K-2 researched through “Career Town”. Students used the information to complete a “Dream Book” which they took home. Each week completed research was added to their book to be taken home at the end of the unit.

December Reindeer Unit-The students in grades K-6th participated in a month long Reindeer unit. Students learned facts about reindeer and caribou as they participated in fun Reindeer Christmas activities.
