Introduction

McDougal LittellWorld Geography

World Geography from McDougal Littell helps students relate distant places and culturesto their own lives. Each unit addresses physical geography, human geography, and majorissues of a specific region of the world.

World Geography offers a vibrant, visual approach that captures students’ attention.Large, concise maps and numerous charts and graphs make the information accessible.Special chapter features by Rand McNally are also provided.

Throughout World Geography, students are challenged to make connections betweenphysical and human geography, to compare and contrast information, and to makeconnections between different regions and cultures.

World Geography shows students the relevance of geography by spotlighting threecurrent geographic issues in every unit. Students explore these issues through casestudies, primary sources, projects, and technology-based research. In addition,ClassZone, the textbook companion website, offers engaging online activities andprovides links to the most current geographic data.

Teachers are supported by a wealth of ancillary materials. A complete listing of allprogram components is provided on the following page.

Students will use maps, graphs, charts and other technologies in achieving an understandingof a geographical perspective. Students will formulate concepts directly related to those ideals that foster citizenship. WestVirginia teachers are responsible for analyzing the benefits of technology for learning and for integrating technologyappropriately in the students’ learning environment.
