A New Year’s resolution that you can handle Resolve to step up your family’s volunteer efforts! Volunteers are needed to take Interfaith Caregivers’ clients living in Haddonfield and Haddon Heights to doctors appointments, grocery stores, and other local destinations. Parents with young children are encouraged to find out how volunteering with Interfaith Caregivers can fit into their busy schedules. Even those who have only an extra 20 minutes per week can provide transportation to an appointment or help make a meal. Teach your children the value of volunteer work while helping a neighbor! A one-day Volunteer Orientation, during which free childcare will be provided, is scheduled for Thu Jan 27 from 9 to 11:30am at the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, located at 29 Warwick Rd. Reserve your spot by calling 354-0298.

Go green The God’s Green House Environmental Group of the First Baptist Church of Haddonfield (124 Kings Hwy E) will meet on Mon Jan 24 at 7:30pm in the church lounge. Discuss the challenges faced by the environment and learn how you can help.

Keeping the Dream Alive The Human Relations Commission will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr Day Commemoration and Procession on Mon Jan 17. To honor Dr King’s legacy, the Commission will recognize individuals who have exemplified the spirit of Dr King’s dream through their volunteer efforts. The evening will begin with a march from the Indian King Tavern Museum (233 Kings Hwy W) to Grace Episcopal Church (19 Kings Highway E). Participants will begin gathering at the museum at 6:30pm. Opening remarks will take place between 7 and 7:10pm. The march to the church will begin around 7:10pm. Be sure to bring a flashlight! After arriving at Grace Church, at approximately 7:30pm, participants will enjoy choral selections performed by the church choir. Following the performance, winners of the Middle and High School Martin Luther King Essay and Poetry Contest will read their work. Local individuals and groups will then be recognized for their contributions. This year, Haddonfield’s role in the underground railroad will also be highlighted. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free. [email protected]

Are you ready to rock? Rock in 2011 at the third annual Haddonfield Rocks Concert to be held on Fri Jan 7 at 7pm at the Haddonfield Middle School (5 Lincoln Ave). The Middle School PTA Reflections Committee is sponsoring the event, which will feature eight rock bands comprised mostly of Middle School students. The school is pairing up with the Rock Shop program at the Haddonfield Conservatory of Music to showcase the talents of local students. The High School’s Co-Ed a capella group will also perform some rock tunes at the event. Tickets will be available at the door. Get there early; tickets have sold out in the past. The cost is $5 per person which includes the rock concert, refreshments, and a chance to win door prizes. Orders will be taken for specially designed Haddonfield Rocks t-shirts before and during the event. The shirts cost $10; proceeds will benefit the arts and music programs at the Middle School. For more information, contact [email protected] or visit haddonfield.k12.nj.us/ms, click on the “HMS eBoard” link, and then “Haddonfield Rocks.”

first Presbyterian is going live Thanks to a gift from Charles and Barbara Tourtellotte, made in memory of their son Dan, many services at the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield will be streamed live on the Internet. Logan Peterson, a 9th grader at Haddon Township High School, is managing the church’s technical efforts. Now friends and family will be able to access services at First Presbyterian.
