Welcome back, Wildcat fans! We are excited to kick off the new school year with a full athletic calendar. Our student
athletes have worked hard in preparation for the new season. Cross Country is ready for their first meet in Union
Grove on Saturday, Volleyball is in full swing with the varsity team competing in the Groesbeck tournament today and
tomorrow, Team Tennis hosted their first home match of the season on Thursday, and varsity football will kick off
their season on September 1st versus Mabank. We encourage our fans to come out and support all our fall sports.
As a reminder, please don’t forget Meet the Wildcats, Monday, August 28th, 7:00 p.m., Wildcat Gym! We look forward
to introducing our football, cross country, fall tennis, and volleyball teams, as well as student trainers, band
members, cheerleaders and Kik Kats. Representatives from the PISD Athletic Booster Club will be available, also, to
answer any questions you may have about memberships and volunteer opportunities.

In Volleyball action:
The Ladycats played Pittsburg at home last Friday night in their first home game of the season. JVB lost a tough
match in 3 ( 25-13, 18-25, 11-15). JVA defeated Pittsburg (25-22, 22-25, 25-23)! The Varsity girls lost in three (20-25, 17-
25, 17-25). Faith Newman picked up 22 digs. McKenzie King had 22 assists. Destiny Mathews had 10 kills while Shayla
Arthur added 8 kills. The Ladycats will resume play in the Eustace tournament playing at 9 am vs. Mabank in the
Championship bracket.
The Ladycats hosted Alba-Golden Tuesday night. The JVB team fought hard in a 3 game match, but came up short (25
-20, 21-25, 23-25). Our JVA team won in exciting fashion coming from behind in the 3rd set to win (15-25, 25-16, 25-20)!
Our varsity girls showed heart and fight in their 5 game match with Alba-Golden. We came up short, but very proud of
the effort the girls gave (26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 12-15). We will be playing in the Groesbeck tournament this Friday
and Saturday!

Volleyball:
The Ladycat Volleyball Team will play Robinson in the Bi-District round of the
playoffs at 6:00 pm on Monday, October 30th at Leon High School. Ticket prices are
$5 for adults and $3 for students. Coach Janae Evans
Tennis:
The Palestine Tennis Team lost to Taylor 10-3 last Thursday in the area round of the Class 3A-Region III playoffs. We faced a very tough and talented Taylor team but I am so proud of the way our players competed, never gave in and played as hard as they could to the end. Monique Ybarra won both her matches. The combination of Monique and Camryn Lupo won the girls' No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-1. Monique then came back and played her best match of the fall, getting a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 1 girls' singles spot. The other Palestine win came from the mixed doubles team of Edgar Ayala and Serena Coker, 6-4, 6-1. The Tennis Teams held tough in most of the matches, including four matches that went to a third-set tiebreaker, but just fell
short in each one of those. The Palestine Tennis Team thanks everyone for the support we have had this fall and we will get back to work in preparation for our spring season. Coach Scott Tyler
Football:
The Wildcat Junior Varsity Team competed well last night. The final score was Palestine Wildcats 20 and Chapel Hill bulldogs 42. The outstanding offensive players were Tre Calhoun and Camron Spurlock scoring 1 touch down each. The outstanding defensive player was Zaquoriance Johnson with multiple tackles and a score. The Wildcats will travel to Carthage on November 2nd. The game will start at 7:00 pm. Coach Darold Turner
The Wildcat Varsity Team is back in action tonight after a week off. The team will travel to play Chapel Hill at Bulldog Stadium. Kickoff at 7:30 pm.
Cross Country:
The Boys’ Cross Country Team competed at Regionals in Huntsville this week and came
away with the UIL 4A Region III Championship in dominating fashion. Their next stop is
Round Rock for the State Meet on November 4th. We are extremely proud of these
young men as they did a tremendous job in representing PISD. This is the first time
in school history the boys have won a Regional Cross Country Championship.
PHS Cross Country Regional Results: 2nd Place-Luis Rangel; 4th Place-Cristian Guzman;
5th Place-Michael Guzman; 26th Place-Daniel Sanchez; 43rd Place-Francis Sis;
50th Place-Garrett Bowden; 51st Place-Cristian Castillo. Coach John Absalom
The Girls’ Cross Country Team wrapped up their season this week as the team competed in the Regional meet for the 12th year
in a row! The girls pushed hard and tried to compete but other teams had a lead against us. We ended up finishing in 20th place.
Leading the Ladycats was Isabel A. Garcia, followed by Yarizeth Garcia, Iris Chavez, Ashley Davis, Yasmine Cuevas, Jennifer
Aguilar, and Laura Cabrera. Coach Luis Hernandez
