Culinary Arts on KETK PHS Culinary Arts students, Kara Richmond and Carlos Adame, were interviewed by Cynthia McLaughlin on KETK/FOX 51 about their experienc- es as Healthy Youth Ambassadors in the PISD Culinary Arts 4-H program. The segment, titled “Seriously Salsa” also featured Kara and Carlos sharing healthy salsa recipes. All-Region Choir Nineteen PHS Choir students auditioned for the Region 21 Small School All-Region Choir on Saturday, October 5th at Whitehouse High School. Six of those students advanced to sing in the Small School All-Region Choir on November 9th in Carthage. The number of PISD students who advanced this school year is double the number from last year. First time contenders, Corbin Hughes and Skylar Jones, each earned a spot in the All-Region Choir and are alternates for the Pre-Area Contest. Emalyn Nicholson, Allyson Byrd, Nicholla Webb, and Wesley Smith advanced to the Pre-Area contest at Lufkin High School on Tuesday, November 19th. If they make the cut, the students will audition for the Texas All-State Choir in January. All-Region Choir

Nineteen PHS Choir students auditioned for the Region 21

Small School All-Region Choir on Saturday, October 5th at

Whitehouse High School. Six of those students advanced to

sing in the Small School All-Region Choir on November 9th

in Carthage. The number of PISD students who advanced this

school year is double

the number from last

year.

Welcome back, Wildcat fans! We are excited to kick off the new school year with a full athletic calendar. Our student

athletes have worked hard in preparation for the new season. Cross Country is ready for their first meet in Union

Grove on Saturday, Volleyball is in full swing with the varsity team competing in the Groesbeck tournament today and

tomorrow, Team Tennis hosted their first home match of the season on Thursday, and varsity football will kick off

their season on September 1st versus Mabank. We encourage our fans to come out and support all our fall sports.

As a reminder, please don’t forget Meet the Wildcats, Monday, August 28th, 7:00 p.m., Wildcat Gym! We look forward

to introducing our football, cross country, fall tennis, and volleyball teams, as well as student trainers, band

members, cheerleaders and Kik Kats. Representatives from the PISD Athletic Booster Club will be available, also, to

answer any questions you may have about memberships and volunteer opportunities.

In Volleyball action:

The Ladycats played Pittsburg at home last Friday night in their first home game of the season. JVB lost a tough

match in 3 ( 25-13, 18-25, 11-15). JVA defeated Pittsburg (25-22, 22-25, 25-23)! The Varsity girls lost in three (20-25, 17-

25, 17-25). Faith Newman picked up 22 digs. McKenzie King had 22 assists. Destiny Mathews had 10 kills while Shayla

Arthur added 8 kills. The Ladycats will resume play in the Eustace tournament playing at 9 am vs. Mabank in the

Championship bracket.

The Ladycats hosted Alba-Golden Tuesday night. The JVB team fought hard in a 3 game match, but came up short (25

-20, 21-25, 23-25). Our JVA team won in exciting fashion coming from behind in the 3rd set to win (15-25, 25-16, 25-20)!

Our varsity girls showed heart and fight in their 5 game match with Alba-Golden. We came up short, but very proud of

the effort the girls gave (26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 12-15). We will be playing in the Groesbeck tournament this Friday

and Saturday!

Volleyball The Ladycats came home with a win over Mexia in 4 (25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18) on Tuesday, October 8th. Shayla Arthur had 18 kills, 3 blocks and 11 digs on the night. Ke’Ondra White added 6 kills and 8 digs. Jan’Aa Johnson and Ka’Zem Wood each added 5 kills. Raina Hanzik led the defense with 16 kills. Ka’Zem Wood had 22 assists in the night while Katie Litynesky added 10 assists. The team will play Rusk at home on Friday, October 11th to finish up the first round of district play.

Cross Country

On Saturday October 5th, the PHS Girls Cross Country Teams competed at the Fairfield Invitational Meet where the varsity team finished in 3rd place. The Ladycats were led by Suzy Francia (12th) , Kacie Danchak (15th), Helena Lara (19th), Samantha Chaidez (22nd) and Karina Gutierrez (23rd). JV Girls Cross Country earned 1st place and were led by Camila Dominguez, who finished in 3rd place, followed by Celeste Lara in 4th, Izabel Simien in 5th, Brenda Trevino in 6th, and Laura Cabrera in 7th place. The Wildcat Varsity Boys Cross Country Team won its 4th meet in a row in Lindale on Thursday, October 3rd, while JV finished 2nd to 5A Kaufman. Luis Rangel (2nd), Michael Guzman (5th), Michael Chaidez (10th), Garrett Bowden (14th) and Luis Castillo (18th) were the top finishers for varsity. There were 157 runners in the varsity race. In the JV race, the top finishers were Nefthali Rubalcava (14th), JJ Garcia (16th), Diego Farias (18th), Oben Reyes (19th) and Adrian Oliva (20th). There were 193 runners in the JV race. Cross Country Teams will be back in action at the District Meet on Tuesday, October 15th at Fairfield High School.

Swimming

The PHS Swim Team participated in the PCA Invitational in Lufkin on Sat, October 5th. Our two

Palestine swimmers had a strong showing in the following events: Sydney Veneris competed

in the 50 freestyle and the 200 IM. Colyer LaFontaine competed in the 50 freestyle and the 100

backstroke

Tennis PHS Team Tennis Team finished 2nd in District this year by beating Madisonville on Wednesday,

October 9th. The team will play a Bi District Match vs Carthage - Tuesday, October 15th

at 4:00 pm in Jacksonville.

At tonight’s Palestine vs Henderson game, Wildcat Football Fans will receive a rally towel at the gate, so let’s rally the team on to a big win!

their Fall gardens! Right now they are learning how to prepare

the soil for proper growth. Soon, they will get to plant their

seeds! They make their own hypothesis and monitor the pro-

gress of their seeds each day.
