The Palestine High School and Pales- tine Junior High School Choirs partici- pated in the Region 21 UIL Vocal Solo & Ensemble last week. There were 23 students from the PHS campus who received either a Superior or Excellent rating, and 5 of those students advanced to state. At PJHS, 15 students participated at the Solo & Ensemble competition and 14 received either a Superior or Excellent rating. This is exceptional because the majority of the students are new to choir. Best of luck to the students at state competition. PHS Cosmetology Department Open for Business! The PHS Cats Meow Salon is open to the public and offers a range of services from basic to deluxe manicures, haircuts, hair styling, braids, facials, face painting and more. The seniors in the program are getting prepared to take the first round of their state board testing and appreciate the opportunity to prac- tice their skills with customers who visit the salon. All services offered in the salon are performed by students under the direct supervision of Cosmetology Instructor, Kim Hill. Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Palestine High School and Pales-tine Junior High School Choirs partici-pated in the Region 21 UIL Vocal Solo & Ensemble last week. There were 23 students from the PHS campus who received either a Superior or Excellent rating, and 5 of those students advanced to state. At PJHS, 15 students participated at the Solo & Ensemble competition and 14 received either a Superior or Excellent rating. This is exceptional because the majority of the students are new to choir. Best of luck to the students at state competition.

The PHS Girls’ Basketball Team is headed to the playoffs. The Lady-cats will play the China Spring Cougars at Navarro College in the Wolens Special Events Center located at 3200 W. 7th Ave-nue, Corsicana, Tex-as on Monday, Febru-ary 12th at 6:00 pm. Adult ticket cost is $5.00 and student tickets will be $3.00.

The Boys’ Basketball Team has made it to the playoffs after finishing their season as District Champi-ons.

The Boys’ Soccer team finished their non-district schedule with a perfect 20-0-0 record, by defeating the Lufkin Hudson Hornets, 11-0 this week. The team will begin district play next Friday, February 16th, 7:00 pm at Wild-cat Stadium against Mineola.

Welcome back, Wildcat fans! We are excited to kick off the new school year with a full athletic calendar. Our student

athletes have worked hard in preparation for the new season. Cross Country is ready for their first meet in Union

Grove on Saturday, Volleyball is in full swing with the varsity team competing in the Groesbeck tournament today and

tomorrow, Team Tennis hosted their first home match of the season on Thursday, and varsity football will kick off

their season on September 1st versus Mabank. We encourage our fans to come out and support all our fall sports.

As a reminder, please don’t forget Meet the Wildcats, Monday, August 28th, 7:00 p.m., Wildcat Gym! We look forward

to introducing our football, cross country, fall tennis, and volleyball teams, as well as student trainers, band

members, cheerleaders and Kik Kats. Representatives from the PISD Athletic Booster Club will be available, also, to

answer any questions you may have about memberships and volunteer opportunities.

In Volleyball action:

The Ladycats played Pittsburg at home last Friday night in their first home game of the season. JVB lost a tough

match in 3 ( 25-13, 18-25, 11-15). JVA defeated Pittsburg (25-22, 22-25, 25-23)! The Varsity girls lost in three (20-25, 17-

25, 17-25). Faith Newman picked up 22 digs. McKenzie King had 22 assists. Destiny Mathews had 10 kills while Shayla

Arthur added 8 kills. The Ladycats will resume play in the Eustace tournament playing at 9 am vs. Mabank in the

Championship bracket.

The Ladycats hosted Alba-Golden Tuesday night. The JVB team fought hard in a 3 game match, but came up short (25

-20, 21-25, 23-25). Our JVA team won in exciting fashion coming from behind in the 3rd set to win (15-25, 25-16, 25-20)!

Our varsity girls showed heart and fight in their 5 game match with Alba-Golden. We came up short, but very proud of

the effort the girls gave (26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 12-15). We will be playing in the Groesbeck tournament this Friday

and Saturday!

Boys Basketball: The team has competed well this year and has earned a playoff spot as District Champions. Right now the team stands in the 3rd place behind Madisonville. After the Madisonville game next Tuesday, the standings will be complete and playoff information will be available.

District Standings: Athens 5-1 Palestine 3-4 Fairfield 2-4 Mexia 2-5 Madisonville 4-2 Boys Soccer: The Wildcats finished out their non-district schedule with a perfect 20-0-0 record, by defeating the Lufkin Hudson Hornets, 11-0. The Wildcats were able to pull off a triple hat trick. Javier Leonor, Riley Harper and Tony Guzman each had three goals. Jonathan Sanchez and Jose Sanchez added the other goals. Leonor had six assists, Guzman had two, Jose and Jonathan Sanchez ahd Luis Rangel had the other assists. Christian Hutchinson logged another clean sheet with the help of several defenders. JVB defeated the Hudson JV, 5-0. Drake Gambrell had a hat trick. Raul Ramirez and Jesus Chavez added the others. Ismael Rodriguez had two assists. Christian Martinez, Steven Villatoro and Santiago Ledesma had the other assists. Jesus Vigil had the clean sheet. Chavez, Caleb Posada, Max Vigil, Alex Zuniga, Garrett Bowden, Gio Garcia and Abraham Ferretiz played stellar defense in front of Vigil. Girls Soccer: The PHS Girls’ Soccer Teams will begin district play on Tuesday, February 13th at Tyler Chapel Hill. The Ladycats will begin their journey to try to conquer a district title and earn a spot on the UIL 4A Region II State Playoffs. The record is now 6 wins, 5 losses and 4 ties.
