The purpose of these exams is to determine what skills your child has acquired. Here are some important reminders to ensure all our 8th grade students have a successful testing week: Please do not schedule any appointment between the hours of 9:50 am and 1:00 pm during this week. We will not be able to check out any 8 th grade student between those hours. Please have your child at school no later than 8:50 am each day. Students arriving later than 9:50 am will not be able to partici- pate in testing that day and will be required to make-up the test that was missed at a later date. Make sure your child is adequately rested before coming to school. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that middle school students get 8.5-9.5 hours of sleep a night. Breakfast is important! Please make sure your child eats a nutritious breakfast either at home or at school each morning. Please discuss the importance of these tests with your child. ITBS test scores are a part of your child’s permanent record. These tests are used to make promotion and retention decisions. They are also used to help place your child in classes according to their level of performance. Testing is a team effort between student, parent and teacher. We appreciate your effort in helping us make this a successful testing experience for your child. Also, please note that we will not have any volunteers in the building next week due to testing.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Rivers Alive is Georgia's annual volunteer waterway cleanup event that targets all waterways in the State including streams, rivers, lakes, beaches, and wetlands. The mission of Rivers Alive is to create aware-ness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia's water re-sources. Georgia's 70,150 miles of streams and rivers need your help. Our waterways provide us with fresh drinking water, and great recreational opportunities like canoeing and fish-ing as well as a habitat for numerous species of wildlife.

October 17 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm will be your opportunity to help protect one of our most precious resources. Help us clean our rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands here in

Milton by supporting Rivers Alive.

Rivers Alive has seen tremendous growth over the years. Its success is a direct result of event organizers and volunteers, who take the time to arrange, host and implement the annual cleanups.

Please join us as we work together to clean up some of Milton's waterways. We’ll meet at Bailey Farm & Gardens, 255 Hickory Flat Rd. (one mile west of the Birmingham Crossroads) at 9 am where you will be assigned a waterway, roadway, public area or neighborhood. If possible, please pre-register and we will try

to assign you a location in advance. Remember, students can earn service hours for their involvement.

Everyone is welcome! Waders and boots will be a plus for those who want to get in the streams and creeks. Younger participants can help at school sites. Milton Grows Green members will be there, too, to help with the "Environscape" as well as helping to clean up our waterways. To register in advance, e-mail to [email protected] or contact Julie and Bill Bailey at [email protected] or 404-310-6344.

Red Ribbon Week/Anti-Bullying Week

October 26th – 29th

Over the years, there has been a subtle incorporation of anti-bullying activities into

Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week has been a campaign that has focused on the

harmful, destructive and sometimes deadly impact of drugs in the lives of all, but

particularly young people. This year many Fulton County Schools will recognize Red

Ribbon Week/Anti Bullying Month together. We will recognize both at

Northwestern Middle School. Our RRW/Anti-Bullying campaign for the 2015-16

school year will be observed during the week of October 26h – October 29th.

Middle School students typically see Red Ribbon Week/Anti Bullying Week as their spirit week. We

are celebrating the spirit of healthy choices, lifestyles and friendships!

Our theme this year is……..

Respect Yourself and Others:

Pledge to be Drug Free and Kind

Oct. 26th – 29th, 2015

Monday, Oct. 26th:

“Red Out” – Pledge to be Drug Free and Respect Your Neighbor
