STEM Day at Northwestern!

Last Friday Northwestern celebrated Georgia’s 2nd annual STEM day. In 6th

grade students were presented with the challenge of building the longest ramp

for a marble to roll on using file folders. In 7th students were challenged to

build catapults that sent an object the farthest and then had to graph the re-

sults. In 8th grade some students built water molecules out of toothpicks and

gummy bears; others were challenged to build a device that would allow an egg

to drop 15 feet without cracking. Students all enjoyed the activities and were

able to learn a little more about the engineer design process.

fielding, throwing and hitting. It is important to have your athletes

there for one of the three days and on time. If your athlete pitches or

catches, they will have a designated time to pitch and catch. Pitchers

will have the opportunity to show their various pitches, accuracy and

control and catchers will be able to showcase their pop time, arm

Bags of Dignity

Your backpack carried your books this year. Now, it can carry someone’s whole world.

The homeless in Atlanta would be thrilled to have your fairly good condition used backpack to make their life a little easier. It may seem hard to believe – your used backpack making such a change in someone’s life. But, in previous years, we were able to collect over 200 backpacks for distribution to the homeless of Atlanta, and there were tears of joys from the recipients. - tears because they would have something permanent to carry their few belongings. This year, at the end of the school year, please consider donating your backpack. We will have collection bags at the front entrance during the last week of school. The backpacks will be collected and distributed at St. Francis Table Soup Kitchen across from Underground Atlanta. Please make sure you check with your parents before you donate your backpack. Also, make sure you have removed all personal items. However, feel free to place sample sized toiletries (shampoo, soap, tooth-paste) or a pair of socks in the main compartment, as these would be greatly appreciated.

Questions? Please contact Liam Nugent at (770)752-9286.

Your backpack can make a huge difference in someone’s life!
