The natives of the Moselle valley have a reputation for being a particularly party-loving folk. And quite rightly so, as a glance at their lavish calendar of events demonstrates. There is a festival happening somewhere or other all year round – mostly between May and September, of course – with each town and village having its own reasons for celebrating. While links to Roman history come alive here, the traces of antiquity are turned into an event location there. The more recent past is evoked by medieval fairs or castle festivals cultivating a chivalrous ambience. Sports events provide a framework for exuberant public festivals. Or the occasion is to be found in the typical traditions of the Moselle region. Wine festivals with large fireworks, romantic or racy fair rides, live music and pageants ensure cheerfulness all year round and along the entire Moselle river. Street, farm and harvest festivals are always focused on the region’s wines and apposite delicacies. And there are auditory pleasures to be had, too, from earthy brass bands via blues events through to top-class festivals of classical music. Joie de vivre thrives along the Moselle, enough and to spare. And everyone is invited to join in and enjoy.

This is when the riverside roads become a car-free zone, giving you an opportunity to intensively experience the „Moselland“ as an ideal landscape for cycle tours, completely unbothered by motorized „competitors“. Every year, the associations, hoteliers and restaurants along the respective routes spare no effort in catering to cyclists large and small, ir-respective of whether they nurture sportive ambitions or prefer to take things at a rather more leisurely pace.

“Happy Schrumpftal – Schromb macht Spass” or „Happy Schrumpftal Valley – Schromb is Fun“ is the motto of an „Erlebnistag“ event held every two years between Münstermaifeld-Metternich and Hatzenport by the Moselle.
