Some of our students have been successful in making into a variety of PSSA teams. This is a huge achievement and I am very proud of not only the students who made it into PSSA teams, but also of the students who went along and participated in the trials. Well done everyone. Monday saw Mr Pyne and our school leaders make the long journey into the city for the Halogen Young Leaders day. It was a fantastic day and not only did our school leaders represent the school beautifully, they also learnt some great information about leadership and not giving up on your dreams. Thank you Mr Pyne for organising the day. On Friday 21st of February Miss Matthews and our zone swimmers attended the zone swimming carnival at Glenbrook. A big congratulations to all our competitors who competed with great pride and sportsmanship. Another great reason to be very proud of our school and students. I have had several complaints about the parking, and at times, dangerous driving on Leslie Street. When parking and driving around our school please keep the safety of our students in mind. I would hate for an accident to occur, and one of our students be injured. There is plenty of parking across the road at Coles and it is only a short walk to our school from there. I have contacted the council and police so that they can do extra patrols around our school at drop off and pick up times to ensure the safety of our students. Sport in Schools will be running again in term two. This program allows the students to learn gymnastic and athletic skills that are taught by qualified instructors. If you need assistance in paying for the program please contact the office. Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Carers, Term 1 is always busy with PSSA trials and we have lots of students trailing for PSSA teams this year.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is available for all NSW students in

Kindergarten-Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools.

The Challenge aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and

pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a

competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more

widely.

The Premier's Reading Challenge is an initiative of the NSW State government.

All students who enter, and successfully complete the Challenge, will receive a

Premier's Reading Challenge certificate for that year.

If your child is taking part in the 2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge, it is now under way and runs through to

28th August. During this time they will need to read 20 books from the Premier’s Reading list plus 5 free

choice books.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will complete the challenge during Library visits with Mrs Wilkinson.

Students can enter their reading online or complete the reading log provided.

A list of books for each level and the rules are available on the website:

http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/premiersreadingchallenge/

If you have any problems or questions please feel free to contact me.

Garden Club Needs a New Leader

Welcome to all the new families at Winmalee Public!

You have come to a great school with lots of extracurricular

activities, including Garden Club.

This club has been running once a week during a lunchtime since

2016 and gives any child who wishes to attend, regularly or

irregularly, the opportunity to grow and harvest vegetables, and

maintain and improve special areas in the school grounds

such as the Serenity Space and Grandparent’s Garden. We also

keep an eye on the composting system at school and this year

we’ll finally be able to use it on our garden beds.

But we have a problem.

I am no longer able to commit to running the club so am looking

for a parent who can.

You don’t need to be a gardener to do this. I learnt with Google

how to grow vegetables and basically the kids just want to play

in the dirt, pick the fruits of their labours and have a safe space

to hang out in.

Naturally I will do a handover with you about the gardens we have worked on and come along to the first club

meeting so I can introduce you to any of the returning children.

Please contact the office if you wish to take on this role and they will forward me your contact details.

Alternatively, you can contact me through the parents Facebook page.

Warm regards

Garden Clare

Tell Them From Me student feedback survey (Term 1, 2020)

We are delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school. We want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 8 May. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 13th March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages.
