LUNCHEON HELD TO RAISE AWARENESS
FOR OVARIAN CANCER PREVENTION
AND EARLIEST DETECTION
The HUMC Foundation hosted
the first annual Maureen Fund for
Ovarian Cancer Luncheon at The
Pleasantdale Chateau, in West Orange,
NJ. This event brought more than 300
women together from Bergen, Essex,
Morris, and Passaic counties to hear
important information about ovarian
cancer prevention, education, and
treatment.
The Maureen Fund, named after
Maureen Roehnelt, was created at
The Cancer Center to aid in improv-
ing earliest detection, standardizing
care according to accepted guidelines,
and searching for innovative strategies
for the treatment of ovarian cancer.
The fund’s goal is to decrease the
annual incidence of ovarian cancer
and increase the rate of early detection
of the disease. It also provides ovar-
ian cancer screening and prevention
services but targets women at high-
risk for ovarian cancer based upon
specific criteria.
“These women did an incredible job
of organizing and bringing people
together,” said Robert L. Torre, exec-
utive vice president, the HUMC
Foundation. “The Cancer Center at
Hackensack University Medical
Center is home to New Jersey’s largest
and most comprehensive cancer pro-
gram. Each year, more patients from
our state come here than to any other
facility in New Jersey. With these
remarkable accomplishments we are
in the best position to make a differ-
ence for everyone who has ever had to
face cancer, either their own, or that
of a loved one,” said Mr. Torre.
