Lets Get Familiar

Every page can have a header & a footer.

Pages can be grouped into sections, and everysection can have a unique header & footer.

Pages can be grouped into Odd & Even pages, all oddpages can have unique header & footer and all evenpages can have their own.

First page can have a different header & footer.

Sections in a Document

By default, the entire document is one section.To create pages, sections, columns etc., allyou need to do is to “break” the running textinto pages, sections or columns.

Use “breaks” command in Page Setup groupunder Page Layout tab.

Types of breaks… What is a Page Break?

A page break will force everything after the break onto anew page .

What is a Column Break? A column break will force everything after the break into thenext column .

What is a Text Wrapping Break? Specifically for web pages and blog entries, a text wrapping

break separates text around objects , such as caption textfrom body text.

Types of breaks… What is a Next Page Section Break?

A next page section break firstly marks a section break in thedocument (which are very important when working with headers,footers, and other page formatting features), and also starts a newpage , just like a page break.

What is a Continuous Page Section Break? Same as the Next Page Section Break, except it does not begin anew page .

What is an Even Page Section Break? An even page break is just like a next page section break, exceptthat it will start a new section on the next even-numberedpage .

Inserting a break• The best way to insert desired breaks in thedocument is to do it while viewing the document in

“Draft” view.• Put your cursor at the place where you want thebreak to appear, that is, after a character or objectin the document.• Choose the desired break from Page Layout tab – Page Setup group – breaks command.

group.

Make sure you are in the right Page or Sectionbefore you go for inserting header or footer.
