CIT 120: Introduction to Computers Word Project 1 Instructions 1 Word Project 1 Instructions The following are the instructions for Word Project 1. You will create the Word Project 1 documents from scratch yourself using Microsoft Word 2010 word processing software and the Microsoft Office 2010: Brief textbook. There are three images to download from the Blackboard Web site; two images are for the non-graded tutorial and the other image is for the graded assignment. All three images can be found in Blackboard’s Assignments button, Word Project 1 section. I. Do the tutorial on pages WD 2 53. 1) This tutorial will instruct you to create a file named Found Dog Flyer.docx. This tutorial will not be graded but if it is missing 10 points will be deducted from the final assignment score. Word Project 1 Instructions

The following are the instructions for Word Project 1. You will create the Word Project 1 documents from scratch yourself using Microsoft Word 2010 word processing software and the Microsoft Office 2010: Brief textbook. There are three images to download from the Blackboard Web site; two images are for the non-graded tutorial and the other image is for the graded assignment. All three images can be found in Blackboard’s Assignments button, Word Project 1 section.

I. Do the tutorial on pages WD 2 – 53.

1) This tutorial will instruct you to create a file named Found Dog Flyer.docx. This tutorial will not be

graded but if it is missing 10 points will be deducted from the final assignment score. The point of the tutorial is to learn the skills you need to do the graded assignment.

2) The completed tutorial will look like the picture on page WD 3.

3) You will need to download the images named Dog Picture 1.jpg and Dog Picture 2.jpg. You can also find these same images in Blackboard’s Assignments button, Word Project 1 section.

II. Do the assignment named In the Lab 2 on pages WD 60 – 61. 1) This assignment will instruct you to create a file named Lab 1-2 Photography Contest Flyer.docx.

Create this document using the same methods you learned in the tutorial (do the tutorial first). This assignment is graded and is worth 50 points.

2) Follow the instructions (the steps) in the textbook. Don't try to create the document simply by looking at the picture in the book. The assignment is graded based on the completion of each of the textbook assignment steps.

3) Make sure that your document includes all of the formatting shown on the following pages of these instructions.

4) Make sure the Show / Hide button is turned on while you work on this assignment as shown on page 3 of these instructions.

5) You will need to download the image named Wind Power.jpg. You can also find this same image in Blackboard’s Assignments button, Word Project 1 section.

6) Page WD 60 Step 7 Changed Requirement: Although the textbook instructions on page WD 60 step 7 say to change the color of the signature line to Gray-50%, Text 2, do not do so. 8) Page WD 61 Step 17 Changed Requirement: Although the textbook instructions on page WD 61 step 17 say to add the page border shown in Figure 1-79, do not do so. Instead add the border as shown on page 16 of these instructions. Adding the border shown in these instructions is worth six (6) points. Students that add the border shown in the textbook on page WD 61 in step 17 as shown in Figure 1-79 will not receive any points for this step.

9) See the Blackboard document Word Project 1 Grading Criteria for specific information on how this assignment will be graded.

III. When you have completed the tutorial and the assignment, attach the following files to an e-mail as file attachments and send them to your instructor at [email protected]

1) Found Dog Flyer.docx 2) Lab 1-2 Photography Contest Flyer.docx

The subject line of your e-mail should be CIT 120: YourLastName - Word Project 1 where YourLastName is your last name.

Please allow at least 24 hours for your assignment to be graded from the time you submit it. After your assignment has been graded an e-mail will be sent to your CLC student e-mail account that contains grading comments.

Important: All assignment files submitted for grading must be attached to an e-mail as file attachments. Assignment files can’t be uploaded to an online storage site like Microsoft Windows Live SkyDrive. Assignment files uploaded to an online storage site will not be accepted for grading.

IV. This assignment must be graded on or before the due date listed in the syllabus.

This due date is not the actual date and time the assignment is due; rather, this due date is the date and time after which this assignment will no longer be accepted or graded.

Important: It is the student's responsibility to follow-up to make sure that this assignment was received and graded before the due date. The instructor will not contact students to inform them this assignment has not been received

How do I display the formatting marks using the Show / Hide button? Here is an image that shows how to display the formatting marks in Microsoft Word. Also see page WD 7 in your Microsoft Office 2010: Brief textbook for the steps necessary to display formatting marks.

Do we submit our documents with the formatting marks displayed?

You may submit your Microsoft Word assignments with the Show/Hide button on or off. When you e-mail your Word document to another user they will only see the formatting marks if they have set their Show/Hide button on. Either way, your assignment will be graded with the Show/Hide button on.

How do I format the End of Paragraph Marks?

Here is an image that shows how you will need to format the end of paragraph marks in this assignment.

The end of paragraph formatting marks in your assignment will need to look exactly like the ones in this image. Formatting marks are one of the major learning objectives in this assignment. Each correctly entered formatting mark is worth one-half (1/2) point. These end of paragraph formatting marks make up four (4) of the 50 points in this assignment.

TIP: Don’t drag the mouse to select a paragraph. Instead, triple click on a paragraph to select the entire paragraph. Triple clicking select the entire paragraph including the end of paragraph mark.
