RAILWAY CHALLENGE.

What’s the Railway Challenge?

Mixture of teams: engineering students studying at a UK university and apprentices working in industry.

They design and manufacture a miniature (10 ¼” gauge) railway locomotive according to specific rules and technical specifications.

The 2015 competition weekend took place at Stapleford Miniature Railway

in Leicstershire. Visit www.imeche.org/railwaychallenge for

DESIGNCHALLENGE.

What’s the Design Challenge?

This competition is for first year undergraduates to expose them to the ‘real world’ of engineering. It was set up to address the complaint that so many businesses have of hiring graduates with theoretical knowledge but no practical experience.

The DC competition comprises four main elements.

1) Design, Make, Test, Compete

2) Presentation

3) Poster

4) Peer Review

The Design Challenge has been successfully established in three UK regions:

North West

Greater London

North East

Each region has its own competition from which the winner and runner-up are put through to the National Competition in October.

IMECHEAMBASSADORS.

1. Promote Mechanical Engineering and/or Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths subjects to young people on behalf of the Institution.

2. No skills or experience required - just a passion for engineering

3. Range of time commitments, with one STEM event per year being mandatory.

4. Ambassadors have to register with STEMNET in order to undertake the relevant security/background checks.

By being an IMechE Ambassador you will help to deliver the following• Getting children enthused about

STEM activities• Helping to raise awareness of how

engineering impacts on every day life

• Inspiring children's desire to investigate further
