WEST YORKSHIRE HERITAGE
Increasing HER online access with West Yorkshire Archives:
Over the last couple of months we have been working with our
colleagues at West Yorkshire Archive Service to make the information
held in the Historic Environment Record even more accessible to
online audiences.
Over 9,000 of our records have now been added to the Archives
online catalogue, providing a ‘one-stop shop’ for people interested in
finding out more about the historic landscapes, and documents, of
West Yorkshire. To search the Archive online catalogue please visit:

Don’t Forget… A version of all West Yorkshire’s HER’s records are available to be searched online by the public.

Festival of British Archaeology 2014: Get hands-on with the past this summer with hundreds of events across the
Yorkshire region bringing our archaeology to life from 12 - 27 July 2014.
The Festival of Archaeology - coordinated
by the Council for British Archaeology (CBA)
- is designed to encourage everyone to
explore archaeology via an exciting range of
activities. Enjoy participating in community
excavations, find handling sessions, talks
on the latest discoveries and expert-led
walks.
As ever, the Festival will kick off the summer
holidays with lots of activities to help you
and your family to enjoy archaeology
together. Look up what's going on in West
Yorkshire by using the Festival’s website:

Get on Yer Bike! - Archaeology trails along the Grand Depart route:
To celebrate the Tour de France starting in Yorkshire
this year we created two leaflets to highlight some of
the archaeological gems which can be seen along the
route as it winds through West Yorkshire:
Stage One (5th July) started outside the grand
Victorian town hall in Leeds, passing the beautiful 18th
-century Harewood House (see photo below) onto the
Anglo-Saxon settlement of Addingham, while Stage
Two (6th July) traveled over the prehistoric
moorland of the South Pennines, through the historic
Industrial mill town of Hebden Bridge and across to
Holmfirth, passing the magnificent Iron Age hill fort at
Almondbury, near Huddersfield!
If you would like copies of our archaeology trails
