Young Vinnies Group

In a new initiative this year, a group of Year 10 students formed the Young Vinnies Group. We partnered with St Vincent De Paul Society in Butler, and in response to the needs of the community, set about raising funds for much needed underwear. As winter approached, we also appealed to the College community for blankets and coats. Young Vinnies raised $220 through jelly cup and hot chocolate sales at recess in Terms 1 and 2, and managed to gather a number of blankets and coats from students to hand over to the St Vincent De Paul Society on Monday this week.

We are looking forward to more fundraising drives in Semester 2, with jelly cups being the obvious favourite. Membership in the Young Vinnies Group is a great way for students to give back to their community and echoes the message underpinning the Irene’s Service Learning Program. It has been a real privilege partnering with a group of motivated and community spirited students.

Evans Day

On Tuesday, 25th June the College celebrated Evans Day. The morning started with a beautiful Mass led by Fr Marian. It was wonderful to see so many students dressed in their red house shirts. Students reflected on the work of Sr Joan Evans and were asked to think about how they can serve their communities.

Catholic School Youth Summit

Year 10 students, Chanel Collins, Sienna Grossman, Riley Loller, Caoimhe McGuigan, Rosie Meier and Tayln Robis, attended a full day at Notre Dame University on Monday, 24th June. The students had the opportunity to take part in the Catholic School Youth Summit. Students attended presentations and workshops centred around leadership and holiness. The Catholic School Youth Summit called these students to pursue sainthood in their everyday lives.

This day had many highlights, the main being when the students engaged in a workshop targeting what great leadership looks like and how they can put great leadership into practice. This involved role play activities.

I was extremely impressed with maturity and leadership skills of the students, and was proud of their enthusiasm and engagement on the day.

Year 11 ATAR Physics Course

This week provided an opportunity for the Year 11 Physics students to shine, when they delivered a series of presentations to a Year 8 class, as part of their Nuclear Physics topic. Much of the world’s electricity is provided by Nuclear Power Stations and the ATAR students presented a range of 10-minute talks on various aspects of the nuclear industry. They included the origins of radiation, types of radiation, uses of radioactivity and problems that may arise in this field. Many thanks to Mrs Lasscock and her Year 8 Health and Physical Education class, who kindly agreed to participate in this major assessment task. They were a very generous and active audience. CAS Results - Finals

Congratulations to our four teams that qualified for CAS finals this week in testing weather conditions. Our Year 7 Boys finished second and managed to topple the higher ranked Peter Moyes with a clinical penalty display. Penalties were also required to decide the Senior Girls’ match, with our girls going right to the wire against the top ranked team. The Year 7 Girls fought hard against a talented team and had a great first season in CAS. Our Year 8/9 Boys completed a great year with a convincing 3-0 victory in their decider. A CAS season doesn’t happen without the terrific support of staff and coaches in enabling our teams to get on the park and do their best. Huge thanks to all involved for their commitment and dedication towards our sporting program.

ACC Championship A new concept this year is the ACC Championship for senior sport which effectively creates an extended knockout competition for teams ranked in the top two in their respective sub associations. Our Senior Girls Soccer Team have qualified for the round of 16 in this competition, and will face off against NAS winner Sacred Heart College on Tuesday afternoon at Sacred Heart. We wish the girls all the best for this new opportunity. Mr Ben Dyer Head of Sport
