Canadian dollar hits 5-year low under 88 Cents us
cbc.ca -The loonie dropped to its lowest level since 2009 on Wednesday, caught up in a sell-off that is dragging down the value of anything associated with crude oil.
At midday, the loonie was off a fifth of a cent and changing hands at 88.33 cents US. It had earlier dropped as low as 87.80, t h e l owe s t t h a t Ca n a d a’s currency has been valued at
since July 2009, when the loonie was on an upswing from its previous trough at around 76 cents during the recession. It ended up marching all the way to above $1.10 at that time.
It’s been a rough year for the Canadian dollar, as the loonie was above the 94-cent level as recently as July and above par for a good part of 2013. Since then, it has been slowly sliding lower, but a lot of that wasn’t b e c a u s e o f w e a k n e s s o n Canada’s part — it was just

losing ground against the U.S. dollar as the American economy was beginning to surge ahead.
Priced against other currencies, the loonie was doing fine until last month, when oil prices started a steep decline.
As recently as July, the North American oil benchmark (known as West Texas Intermediate or WTI) was trading at $105. Today, that same barrel of oil goes for $81 — a decline of 22 per cent in a quarter of a year.
In terms of currencies, “oil” and “ C a n a d a ” h a v e b e c o m e synonymous in recent years, so the loonie is paying the price. “The weakness in oil prices is spilling over in a nasty fashion in Canada,” said Mark Chandler at RBC Dominion Securities.
“The more oil prices fall, the more [the loonie will drop],” Jeremy Stretch at CIBC added.

Grease a muffin pan and set aside. Place popcorn, candy corn and peanuts into a large bowl and set aside. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in marshmallows, red food coloring and yellow food coloring, adjusting color if needed to get a nice shade of orange. When the marshmal-lows are completely melted, pour over the popcorn and stir to evenly distribute the candy, nuts and marshmallow. Use a greased spoon to fill the muffin cups. Insert a piece of licorice to act as the stem, and mold the popcorn around it. Let stand until firm, 10 to 15 minutes, and then pull the pumpkins out by their stems and admire your pumpkin patch!

There is a knock on the pearly gates. Saint Peter looks out, and a man is
standing there. Saint Peter is about to begin his interview when the man disappears. A moment later there’s another knock. Saint Peter gets the
door, sees the man, opens his mouth to speak, but the man disappears once
again. “Hey, are you playing games with me?” Saint Peter calls after him, rather annoyed. “No” the man’s distant voice replies anxiously. “They are trying to
resuscitate me.”
A couple celebrated their 25th wedding an-niversary. When they were asked what their
secret was to a long lasting marriage they said:
“We take the time to go out to a restaurant two times a week. A candlelight dinner, soft
music and a slow walk home. She goes on Tuesdays, and I go on Fridays.”
