Employment was 548,500 in April, up by 16,700 jobs over April 2012, a 3.1 per cent growth rate and the second highest in Canada. Full-time employment was 444,100, another record level for the month of April. “What is encouraging about today’s record job statistics is the solid growth we are seeing in the number of full-time jobs,” Agriculture Minister Lyle
Stewart said on behalf of Economy Minister Bill Boyd. “When workers are able to secure full-time work, it means additional benefits and above all more financial security which leads to a bet-ter quality of life.” Saskatchewan again had the low-est seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in Canada in April at 4.0 per cent. On a national basis, the unemployment rate is 7.2 per cent. Regina’s unemploy-ment rate was 3.5 per cent and Saska-toon’s was 3.7 per cent. Regina had the lowest and Saskatoon the second low-

• Regina’s employment was up by 8,300 (6.7 per cent), and Saskatoon’s employ-ment was up by 11,800 (8.0 per cent). “The gains in agriculture jobs on a year-over-year basis is good news, and confirms the important contribu-tion this sector makes to our overall economic growth,” Stewart said. “It’s another sign our economy is moving forward, creating jobs and solidifying the fact we are a destination of choice for those looking to build a positive fu-ture.”

like to hear your friends and family saying about you?” Sean says, “I would like to hear them say I was a great doc-tor and a great family man.” Karl says, “I would like to hear them say I was a wonderful husband and an excellent

but you might be tempted to fall for asob story. Remember: True generosity isgiving what is needed.
CANCER(June 21 to July 22)You feel selfless today and are willing
to put the wants and needs of othersbefore your own. This is noble. However, make sure you know whatyou’re doing (and not just being asucker).
LEO(July 23 to Aug. 22)Help a friend if you can today, but do
not let anyone take advantage of you. It’salways a fine line. Your feelings of sym-pathy might be confused with martyr-dom.

a boss or someone in a position ofauthority. Make sure this is based in real-ity. (It could be just pixie dust and verytemporary.)

On May 13, 1981, Pope John Paul II is gunned down with a 9 mm pistol at close range. The bul-lets hit the 60-year-old pontiff in the stomach, arm and hand. The Pope had been greeting some 18,000 worshippers from his popemobile during his weekly public appearance in St. Peter’s Square.
• Pope John Paul II was rushed to the hospital for surgery which lasted over four hours. He eventually made a full recovery.• Two American tourists, Ann Odre, 60, and Rose Hall, 21, were also injured in the assassination attempt. Odre was shot in the chest, Hall was hit in the arm. Both women survived. • A 23-year-old Turkish native named Mehmet Ali Agca was arrested for the shootings.• Agca claimed he was a pro-Palestinian militant who was protesting “imperialist crimes” of the Soviet Union and the United States.• Agca had threatened to kill the Pope before during the pontiff ’s 1979 visit to Turkey. • In July 1981, Agca was sentenced to life in prison for his attempted assassination of the Pope and 10 years for wounding the two American bystanders.• The Pope forgave his would-be assassin and said he was praying for him. Pope John Paul II visited Agca in prison and kept in touch with his family.• Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Fidel Castro and Leonid Brezhnev were among the many dignitaries who sent the Pope messages of goodwill. • In 2000, Agca was pardoned by the Italian president, with the Pope’s blessing, after serving 19 years in prison. But on his return to Turkey, he was re-arrested and sentenced to life in prison for killing of a Turkish journalist in 1979.• Pope John Paul II died on April 2, 2005. He was 84.

A young man on the phone desk at the local newspaper answered the phone one Saturday afternoon. An older man’s voice was raising cain with him because his Sunday paper hadn’t come that day. The young man told him the reason it hadn’t come was because it was Saturday and he was just
putting the Sunday paper together. The young man waited through the silence on the line respectfully, figuring the light would come on
and the old man would be apologizing profusely.
Instead, he heard the old guy turn from the receiver and yell “Crap, Ethyl!!! I think I know why nobody was at church this morning!!!”

A candidate brought a dice into the examination hall for MCQ. He started tossing the dice to se-lect his answers. The superintendent just gave a glimpse at this candidate as he passed by as it is common to have students trying their luck. Very soon the candidate finished his whole paper and slept on his table. Half an hour later the candidate sat up and started tossing the dice again. The superintendent felt curi-ous and approached the candidate. Superintendent : “Gentleman, why are you tossing the dice again since you’ve already finished all the ques-tions earlier on? “ Candidate : “Sir, I have to double check my answers.”

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1000.00. With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left. If you had purchased $1000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left. But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavi-ly and recycle. (It’s called the 401-Keg.)
