Rebalancing helps promote fair-ness by adjusting customers’ rates so that each vehicle is charged the correct rate to cover the claim costs for that type of vehicle. To ensure each vehicle group is paying suffi-cient premiums, some rates need to be increased and some decreased. This will result in:63 per cent of Saskatchewan vehicle owners receiving a rate increase, on average $3 per month;35 per cent of vehicle owners re-ceiving a rate decrease, on average $2 per month; and14,000 vehicle owners seeing no change to their rates.Government considered the pan-el’s suggestion that increases for motorcycles be deferred until the results of the motorcycle review are known. While that review will hopefully result in changes that will impact the need for future rate increases for motorcycles, they won’t be implemented in time to impact this rating year. In fairness to all vehicle owners, motorcycle owners will see rate changes just like all other vehicle owners in the province in this rating program. To help reduce rate shock, SGI will cap increases for all vehicle groups, including motorcycles. Vehicle groups with annual rates great-er than $1,000 will be capped at a maximum increase of 15 per cent, while those with annual rates less than $1,000 will have dollar caps ranging from $25 to $150.

SGI will apply all rate decreases immediately on August 31, 2013. Vehicle owners receiving a rate de-crease, who have already insured their vehicles past August 31, will automatically receive a refund for the difference between their old rate and their new rate to the end of their policy term. For those receiving rate increases, the new rate won’t be applied until the next time an owner does a ve-hicle transaction on or after August 31, 2013, usually the next time they renew their plate insurance.Rates are available on SGI’s website at www.sgi.sk.ca/rates.

Summer Road Safety Tips Summer is here and that also means vacation time for a lot of Saskatchewan travellers. Before mo-torists head out for their summer holidays, CAA Saskatchewan recommends taking note of some important summer road safety tips. “Planning ahead and staying attentive are key factors to staying safe on the road,” says Christine Niemczyk, Director of Communications for CAA Saskatchewan. According to SGI, in 2012, distracted driving, including cell phone use, contributed to 60 deaths and nearly 2,200 injuries. To ensure you stay safe on your summer travels, follow these tips: - Plan ahead: - Have your vehicle inspected prior to travelling to ensure your vehicle is in top operating condition and to avoid breakdowns during your summer travels. - Chart your route to allow time to travel safely, and check road construction to avoid delays. - Pack an emergency vehicle kit. - Ensure children have games, books and other activities to keep them entertained. - Stay alert: - Get enough sleep the night before you have to drive and travel at times when you are normally awake. - Take regular breaks and stay overnight rather than driving straight through. - Reduce driver distractions: - Pull over to read a map, make a phone call or text, set the GPS unit, smoke, or tend to children, and stop to eat. - Pre-set musical systems before you start driving and keep volume low. - Keep conversation with passengers light and to a minimum. - Slow Down - Obey the speed limit. It will not only improve your safety, but also save you money at the gas pumps. - Remember it’s the law to slow to 60 km/hour when passing tow trucks or emergency vehicles assisting motorists or when passing construction crews on Saskatchewan roads.

• The CN Tower is 553.33 metres high. It was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Tall-est Free-Standing Structure and World’s Tallest Building for more than 30 years. The Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat disputed that claim, arguing a “building” must be designed for residential, business or manufactur-ing. They instead cited the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as the world’s tallest building, at 452 me-tres above street level.

• The CN Tower was built by Canadian National at a cost of $57 million to be a landmark and a demonstration of the strength of Canadian industry. But it had practical origins as well. In the 1960s a construction boom in downtown Toronto brought skyscrapers that caused serious problems with television signals. With the arrival of the CN Tower’s microwave receptors and tall antenna, Torontonians enjoy some of the cleanest reception in North America.

• Almost two million visitors ascend the tower every year.

• At 342 metres, the CN Tower has a glass floor and out-door observation deck. There is a café and indoor observa-tion deck at 346 metres, and at 351 metres there is a restau-rant that rotates once every 72 minutes. The upper-level Skypod observation deck is 447 metres high.

• The original plans for the tower called for three towers linked together by bridges.

Top Signs Your Divot is Too Big

- That light shooting out of the hole you made is from a miner’s helmet below.- Put it next to Charlton Heston’s tou-pee and you can’t tell the difference- It has more square footage than the average front yard in Hong Kong. - The Bureau of Land Management issues you a citation for environmen-tal brutality. - A nearsighted, horny fox mounts it.- You stamp WELCOME on it and put it on your front doorstep.- There are enough worms in it to start your own bait shop.- It contains the entire hip bone of a fossilized brontosaurus.-You need a forklift to pick it up and a carpet layer to put it back.- Smack in the middle is the bloody severed head of a gopher.
