...Your.Daily.Fix.................Mandatory 10 Digit Dialing in Effect for Saskatchewan on May 11th Sask Tel would like to remind customers that mandatory 10 digit dialing for local calls will be effec-tive this weekend. Beginning May 11th, the area code plus the 7-dig-it local number must be dialed to complete a local call in Saskatche-wan. Anyone who fails to include the area code when making a local call will receive a network message asking them to hang up and redial
using the area code; the call will no longer be automatically completed. “We are pleased with the over 95% participation rate among Sask Tel customers,” said Ron Styles, Sask Tel President and CEO. “However, we must highlight the need for cus-tomers to ensure that all numbers stored in communication systems and devices - particularly in alarm systems, internet connections, building intercoms, and call for-warding.”

GOLF SWING BASICS By Steve Silverman
Learning how to play the game of golf can be very complicated for the beginning. Long holes with hazards, tricky greens that call for difficult-to-exe-cute pitch shots and undulating greens cause many people to look at the game and wonder how any-one ever gets through 18 holes. However, if you learn the basics of the golf swing, you will have a chance to improve fairly quickly and become a decent golfer who enjoys his time on the course.
tHE ADDRESSLearn how to stand properly over the golf ball. Stand about 20-to-24 inches away from the ball. Your shoulder should be facing the target, wheth-er it’s the green or somewhere else in the fairway. Your left foot should be directly underneath your left shoulder. Flex your knees slightly. This will put you in an athletic position and enable you to shift your weight easily.
tuRN YouR HiPSThe hips are the engine of your swing. The sooner a golfer learns this, the better off he is. Turn your hips to the right to get your swing started. Your weight will shift to your back leg. As you get to the back of your swing, roll your hips back in the other direction. You will shift your weight to your left leg and as you do this your hands will come through the hitting zone.
RELEASE WitH YouR HANDSAs you are about to make contact, your club head should be square to the ball. As you get in this position, it is now time for your hands to come through the ball and give your swing a powerful finish. To do this, uncock your right wrist and snap it through the ball on contact. This will give you the power you need to drive the ball down the fairway.

This Day in History - May 9thWoodrow Wilson proclaims the first Mother’s Day holiday On this day in 1914, President Woodrow Wil-son issues a presidential proclamation that offi-cially establishes the first national Mother’s Day holiday to celebrate America’s mothers. The idea for a “Mother’s Day” is credited by some to Julia Ward Howe (1872) and by others to Anna Jarvis (1907), who both suggested a hol-iday dedicated to a day of peace. Many individual states celebrated Mother’s Day by 1911, but it was not until Wilson lobbied Congress in 1914 that Mother’s Day was officially set on the second Sun-day of every May. In his first Mother’s Day proc-lamation, Wilson stated that the holiday offered a chance to “[publicly express] our love and rever-ence for the mothers of our country.” In 2002, President George W. Bush echoed Wilson’s sentiments by acknowledging mothers in his official statement on Mother’s Day in 2002. He commended foster mothers as well as his own “fabulous mother” for their “love and sacrifice.” He also mentioned past presidents’ expressions of appreciation for their mothers. He quoted John Quincy Adams as having said “all that I am my mother made me” and Abraham Lincoln’s senti-ment that “all that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother ?[my mother’s prayers] have clung to me all my life.” Bush’s own mother, Bar-bara, was a popular first lady when the elder Bush served as president from 1989 to 1992.

Riding The train A lady from the city and her
traveling companion were riding the train through Ver-mont when she noticed some cows. “What a cute bunch of cows!” she remarked. “Not a bunch, herd”, her friend replied. “Heard of what?” “Herd of cows.” “Of course I’ve heard of cows.” “No, a cow herd.” “What do I care
what a cow heard. I have no secrets to keep from a cow!”

DID YOU KNOW?tECHNoLoGY-DRiVEN Saskatchewan has a tradition of and leadership in, energy research, offering world-class geoscience to our mining and oil and gas industries. Our province has long been an innovator in petroleum research and is a pioneer in horizontal well drilling. The laboratories of the Saskatchewan Research Council and Canada’s only synchrotron at the University of Saskatchewan are doing cutting-edge research for industry. And the University of Regina has a number of affiliated research facilities that have garnered international acclaim. One of those research facilities, the International Test Centre for Carbon Dioxide Capture, has contributed to the province’s reputation as a global leader in research on carbon dioxide capture and sequestration. The Petroleum Technology Research Centre, also located in Regina, manages the world’s largest inter-national field research project to study the geological storage of carbon dioxide.
