AU POLICY FRAMEWORK FOR INSTITUTIONALIZING YOUTH VOLUNTEERISM IN AFRICA
• Reaching a common understanding of volunteerism and a shared appreciation of its values in socio-economic development;
• Promoting a popular and all-inclusive policy in all Member States and Regional Economic Communities;
• Creating and develop an enabling environment for youth to direct their knowledge and creativity to Africa’s development;
• Promote the concept of professional volunteerism among Africa’s youth as well as Africa’s institutions, organizations and society at large;
• Propose mechanisms for sustainable and reliable funding through contributions of – government, private sector, and the international organizations;
Overall Goals
• The policy framework through active engagement of Member States, RECs and Development Partners shall achieve a continental volunteering infrastructure with:– National level volunteer programs (managed by M/S)– Regional level volunteer programs (managed by RECs)– Continental level (managed by AUC – AU-YVC)
• Strongly interrelated • Continental level reporting on Volunteer work• Joint resource mobilizations
Overall Goals
Roles of the AUC
• Promote common standards and policies in all AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities in setting up youth development and volunteer programs;
• Provide technical assistance to national and sub-regional institutions in setting up national/ regional volunteer programs;
• Monitor and report on all volunteer related activities in all Member States and RECs;
• Provide oversight for the implementation of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC);
• Mobilize resources and partnerships at African and international
