My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!

The Great Miracle of the Sun’s anniversary is coming up next month in October, as we continue re-flecting in this 100th anniversary year of Our Lady of Fatima. This month, with school opening and faith for-mation beginning again, our Heavenly Mother shows us in Fatima that she is and always will be a Mother and Teach-er to us, her beloved children. She chose the three shepherd children, Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia, at such a young age to teach not only them how to pray and the importance of prayer, especially the rosary, but through these three young children Mary has been teaching us and the whole world for 100 years the importance of our faith and trust in Her and Her Son, Her Immaculate Heart and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Early on, Mary said to the three shepherd children, “I promise salvation to those who embrace devotion to my Immaculate Heart, and these souls will be loved by God like flowers placed by me to adorn His throne” (June 13, 1917). This is a truth of our Catholic Faith that must never be forgotten: JESUS CHRIST is truly alive, BODY, BLOOD, SOUL, and DIVINITY, and is truly PRESENT in the HOLY EUCHARIST in every TABERNACLE of the world. This is called the REAL PRESENCE. The Angel of Peace taught the Little Shepherds how to adore JESUS and pray to console Him. The Angel told them that JESUS was sad because there was so much sin in the world and people were ignoring Him in the Holy Eucharist. When the month of July, 1917, came around, during the third apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, little Lucia said to the beautiful lady from heaven: “I would like to ask you to tell us who you are, and to work a miracle so that everybody will believe that you are appearing to us.” Our Lady responded: “Continue to come here every month. In October I will tell you who I am and what I want, and I will perform a miracle for all to see and believe.” True to her word, on Saturday, October 13, 1917, the greatest miracle since the Resurrection of Jesus, the Christ, and the only miracle ever predicted in terms of a precise date, time and place occurred. It has come to be known as The Miracle of the Sun. Between 70,000 and 100,000 people came to Fatima to see it (journalists reported 30,000), and it was seen by count-less others within a 25-mile radius of Fatima.

If you still have not had a chance to check out a copy of the 100th Anniversary of Fatima DVD, please do so — instructions are below. Still, after 100 years, I feel like this message of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima is just barely beginning to be heard and implemented. Our Mother Mary’s message, in other words, seems more relevant than ever! As a matter of fact, those among us who are bewildered now by the many horrors occurring in our world today – who feel helpless and are living in fear and trepidation – will find clear understanding, great consolation and the solution to all of our problems in the message of Our Lady of Fatima. Pope Francis consecrated his pontificate to her in the early days of his papacy on May 13, 2013, and consecrated the world to her on October 13, 2013.

This month of September, 100 years ago in 1917, in Lucia’s own words, this is what happened at the FIFTH APPARATION of our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima: after great delays due to the enormous crowds gathering and shouting out to the three shepherd children for prayers, healings, miracles, “At last [on September 13, 1917] we arrived at the Cova da Iria, and on reaching the holm oak we began to say the Rosary with the people. Shortly after-ward, we saw the flash of light, and then Our Lady appeared on the holm oak. ‘Continue to pray the Rosary in order to obtain the end of the war. In October Our Lord will come, as well as Our Lady of Dolors and Our Lady of Carmel, Saint Joseph will appear with the Child Jesus to bless the world. God is pleased with your sacrifices. He does not want you to sleep with the rope on, but only to wear it during the daytime.’ [Lucia spoke:] ‘I was told to ask you many things, the cure of some sick people, of a deaf-mute…’ [The Lady responded:] ‘Yes, I will cure some, but not others. In October I will perform a miracle so that all may believe.’ Then Our Lady began to rise as usual, and disappeared.”

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!!!

In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

VIVIENDO NUESTRA FE

2. ¿Cómo recibes advertencias y correciones? ¿Las valoras o las menosprecias?

3. ¿En que acciones de justicia estas involucrado? ¿En cuales po-drías involúcrate?

MYTHS AND TRUTHS

The following are myths about divorce, annulment, and remarriage in the Catholic Church. (Please note the word annulment is commonly used jargon, but the proper church term is declaration of nullity.)

MYTH #18

A declaration of nullity must be processed in Rome.

TRUTH Annulments are processed at the diocesan level. If either party disagrees with the decision of the judge of the Joliet tribunal, they have the right to appeal the case. The appeal normally goes to the Court of Appeals located in the Province of Chicago, but if they wish, either party has the right to appeal to the Roman Rota at the Vatican. Should the decision of the Court of Appeals differ from the decision of the Joliet Tribunal, or should either party disagree with the decision of both the Joliet Tribunal’s judge and the Court of Appeals the case can be appealed to the Roman Rota.

WATERLEAF “BABY BOTTLES

FOR LIFE”

SEPTEMBER 9TH AND 10TH In September St. Andrew the Apostle will be participating in a special fundraiser to promote and further a Culture of Life within our parish and local community. Waterleaf provides practical help; pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, STD testing and treatment as well as continuing education and support for women in our community who would otherwise be at risk for choosing abortion. Last year with the support of churches like St. Andrew the Apostle, Waterleaf served 789 clients, performed 521 pregnancy tests, 343 ultrasounds and rescued 60 babies. Baby bottles will be distributed to parishioners after the Masses on September 9th and September 10th to take home and fill with spare change, cash, a check or a prayer. Bottles can be returned the weekends of September 16th and 17th, 23rd and 24th, and 30th and October 1st. There will be a basket in the vestibule of Church where you can leave them. This fundraiser is a great way for each member of the family to help in building a Culture of Life. Thank you in advance for your response to the call of the Gospel to serve those in great need! May Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of His Mother, Mary, bless and protect you and your loved ones!

GRANT ETERNAL REST, LIGHT AND PEACE TO ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED Lorraine Arient, Eileen Kopecky Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 x301 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or homebound and in need of communion.

Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s — it doesn’t hurt to say it a few times, either! Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, (815) 886-4165 ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!

A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION

CATECHUMENATE The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN

We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION

Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.

SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT

MARRIAGE

Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
