This luxury excursion makes use of classic steam locomotives and carriages, lovingly restored by Rovos Rail. Tickets are collected, welcome drinks are served and the train sets off at 17h00 in summer and at 16h30 in winter. Travel through Victoria Falls World Heritage Site. The train will steam onto the Victoria Falls Bridge and passengers will enjoy drinks as the sun sets. Afterwards the train will move to Palm Grove where a five course dinner, prepared by world class Royal Livingstone chefs, will be served. Wines, beers and soft drinks are included and there is a cash bar available for spirits.

DAY 5: VICTORIA FALLS This morning we depart on our Tour of the Falls. The Victoria Falls reaches its zenith in about May each year. It is a truly awe-inspiring experience – the sight, the sound, the smell and the humbling feeling that here indeed, is Nature’s Supreme Masterpiece. Your tour is conducted in the morning and afternoon and is 2 hours in duration. You will be accompanied through the Rainforest by a qualified Guide, who gives a brief history of the Falls and the surrounding flora, fauna, bird and wildlife. What to see: Devil’s Swimming Pool – the ultimate infinity pool, a natural water hole on the edge of Victoria Falls. When the levels drop, the natural rock walls of the Devil’s Swimming Pool come close enough to the surface to form a barrier and stop swimmers being carried away.

DAY 6: CHOBE GAME SAFARI Spend your half day in the Chobe National Park game viewing. Being one of Africa’s famous game viewing destinations, the Chobe National Park offers the chance to see game species including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, kudu and hippo.

Top Tip: Loose layers and accessories that protect you from the sun and biting insects are a priority. Forget your formal clothes; things are casual out in the bush! Binoculars – often the animals are far away and if they aren’t a Big Five animal your guide most likely won’t be able to go off-roading to get closer, there are also some amazing birds that you will see on safari.

THE BIG 5 AFRICAN SAFARI: 1. African Lion: King of the Savanna, these large cats are excellent hunters but you’re more likely to see one sleeping than hunting. Lions are very social animals, unlike other cats, they live in prides of several females, their young and a couple of males. Lions can reach around 14 years of age. Lions have few natural predators besides the occasional buffalo and rest around 20 hours a day.

2. African Elephant: The African Elephant is the largest mammal in the world. Elephants live in woodlands, forests and desert, spread across 37 countries in Africa. A ban on all ivory trade has helped stabilize the population to around 600,000 in the last decade. Elephants can be over 14 feet tall and 30 feet wide. They drink 30-50 gallons of water every day and are vegetarians.

3. Cape Buffalo: Cape buffalo are large, the adults stand 4-6 feet tall and males weigh in at around 700 kg’s. Even lions don’t dare take a chunk out of this beast. Cape Buffalo are said to be one of Africa’s most dangerous animals, if left alone they are quite placid. They will appear in large herds of upto a thousand individuals.

4. African Leopard: Leopards use trees as observation platforms and for protection, so you have to remember to look up. A leopard’s spots offer excellent camouflage and store their fresh kill up in a tree to avoid it getting poached. An adult male can weigh in at 200 lbs, run at speeds of over 35 mph, and are agile jumpers. A leopards’ only predator is man.

5. Rhino: There are two species of Rhino, Their lips are what distinguish them from one another, a black rhino has a prehensile lip to strip leaves off bushes and a white rhino has a long, flat lip adapted for grazing. An adult white rhino can weigh in at 6,000 lbs. Rhinos are shortsighted, they can live up to 30-50 years.

What to see: Monte Toboggan Ride – starting just beneath the steps of Monte Church overlooking Funchal, you ride in a wicker toboggan and will wind down 2km of road controlled by two men dressed in white wearing a straw hat, who will guide you down the route using their rubber shoes, whilst you can enjoy views of the harbour.

DAY 9: NAGOYA, JAPAN Perched on Honshu’s central coast, Nagoya is the fourth largest urban center in Japan. It is also a perfect illustration of the Japanese national story. Japan’s colorful history and love for tradition are embodied in the mighty donjons of Nagoya Castle. The city’s Naka ward is home to museums, pachinko (gambling machine) parlors and the Sakae entertainment district, filled with shops and attractions such as the 42m-tall Sky-Boat Ferris wheel

DAY 13: BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA Often visited by travellers for its mountain-rooted Buddhist Temples and rugged landscapes, Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city. Founded in 678 AD, the city’s rich history is a joy to explore, from its historical fish markets and traditional cuisine through to its age-old architecture. The second largest city in South Korea, Busan is your gateway to a fascinating land whose culture is a unique amalgam of old and new. Modern high-rise towers dwarf ancient Buddhist temples. The city’s bustling business district offers a stark contrast to the serene grounds of Yongdusan Park. In short, Busan is a microcosm of South Korea, a nation whose startling economic success often obscures one of Asia’s most sophisticated and venerable cultures.

DAY 14: NAGASAKI, JAPAN Considering its vibrant and charming atmosphere, one can’t help but be impressed at Nagasaki’s ability to come back from such devastating trauma. Despite being wonderfully reconstructed and hosting a wealth of cultural treasures, the 1945 bombing is still etched at the forefront of this city’s history and should be explored at one of Nagasaki’s many humbling museums or why not check out the peace memorial shrine which shows respect to bomb victims.
