It was wonderful to ha4e Mrs M0/ain return to s0hool on Monday a=er her re0ent
surgery, and also to ha4e Miss Ford return yesterday as Mrs /irks a=er her wedding
last Saturday.
The Trinity College Bisita1on Program for our Year 6 students is now well underway
and the students are enjoying their weekly 4isits to experien0e Trinity hospitality and
edu0a1onal oGerings.
Students in Year 2 to 6 are 0urrently enjoying their weekly in4ol4ement in the MI
SMARTS Program, whi0h is based on the work of Howard Gardener in the area of
‘mul1ple intelligen0es’.
There has been mu0h to 0elebrate re0ently regarding student 0ultural and spor1ng a0hie4ement.
Congratula1ons to the 0hoir for their Sil4er Award at last week’s Iueensland Catholi0 Colleges’ and S0hools’
Musi0 Fes14al. Congratula1ons are also extended to our athletes, for their su00ess at the /eenleigh @one
Athle10s Carni4al. We wish our 7 Jualifying athletes well, for today and tomorrow’s Pa0iK0 Rim 5istri0t
Athle10s Carni4al at I9II Stadium. /est wishes also to our team of 46 athletes who will 0ompete at next
Friday’s Catholi0 @one II Athle10s Carni4al, also at I9II.
On another spor1ng note, Mr Armstrong is 0urrently liaising with the /risbane Roar in order to, on0e again,
bring their highly popular, A014e So00er Program, to St Joseph’s. If Mr Armstrong is su00essful, this program
will be oGered before or a=er s0hool for all students.
This is /ook Week and it has been ex0ellent to see a large number of families in the library looking at the
brilliant year le4el displays and the books on oGer for pur0hase. We all look forward to the week 0ulmina1ng
tomorrow morning with our tradi1onal parade in the hall from 9.00am.
Opportunity exists for parents to be in4ol4ed with staG regarding s0hool re4iew through Joeys’ 9ngagement
Teams (J9Ts). Homework and Te0hnology Plan A01on Teams are taking forma1on and, as men1oned in last
week’s newsleLer, parent in4ol4ement is sought for soon to o00ur re4iew in four strategi0 areas, i.e. Prayer
and Worship, Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care, Professional Capa0ity, and Stewardship of Resour0es.
9xpressions of interest are asked to be aLen1oned to me asap, 4ia the s0hool’s email address, whi0h 0an be
found at the top of this page.
Parents are in4ited to aLend an informa1on session on Bisible Cearning, the s0hool’s 2015 learning and
tea0hing ini1a14e. This session is s0heduled for Wednesday 2 September, 0ommen0ing 8.45am, in the library.
Ha4e you 0onsidered using our new effi0ient online payment system known as Ikr! (pronoun0ed ‘Jui0ker’)?
It is 0urrently a4ailable for s0hool payments regarding uniform items and Artworx2015 10kets. Further Ikr!
informa1on 0an be found in a laLer se01on. On another Knan0ial maLer, reminder no10es ha4e been mailed
to families who ha4e not yet taken the opportunity to seLle Term 3 tui1on fees and 0harges. Rele4ant families
are asked to please a01on payment, or 0onta0t the s0hool, as a maLer of priority.
The s0hool 0alendar ahead, holds a number of highly an10ipated e4ents that I trust will draw wide family
support and in4ol4ement. Please maintain awareness of these e4ents o4er 0oming weeks through the
adja0ent ‘What’s happening this week?’ 0olumn, and stri4e to engage and be part of the a01on!
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus makes it 0lear that e4ery 1me we make a de0ision, we 0hoose either to be for,
or against, God. Those who make themsel4es a4ailable to God, share in the joy of the Kingdom. The Kingdom
and Jesus’ Good News is Klled with lo4e, and ea0h of us is 0alled to li4e for it and to share it through our
bap1sm. How will you answer this 0all today?
With Courage, Faith and Co4e

School Led Parish Mass
On Saturday week, August 29, our next Parish Mass takes pla0e. We are happy to ha4e the Year 5 0lasses as
our hosts and look forward to them leading us in 0elebra1on. All students and families are in4ited and
en0ouraged to 0ome along to enhan0e the 0elebra1ons. The Mass begins at 6pm in the 0hur0h.
Love Languages
5id you work out the lo4e language of your 0hild or 0hildren? Are they the same or diGerent to your own?
My son and I are the same. It’s easy and 0heap for me to bring him happiness and make him feel good. It is
some1mes funny to note that on the surfa0e he reje0ts the oGers but when he really needs support and
en0ouragement it is what really perks him up. I hope that you 0an tap into the thing whi0h makes them feel
truly lo4ed.
Religious Educa3on at St 4oseph5s
Cast year I wrote of how the s0hool was su00essfully implemen1ng the
/risbane Catholi0 9du0a1on Religion Curri0ulum. It was the Krst real re4amp of the learning
and tea0hing of R9 in /risbane for many years. It is a broad do0ument whi0h 0o4ers the
strands of Sa0red Texts, /eliefs, Chur0h and Chris1an Cife. /y the end of the year we are
hoping to present our s0hool Religion Program for 4alida1on. In the lead up to that we will
be seeking your 4iews and ideas for R.9. in the s0hool. We will in4ite dis0ussion soon as we
put together the do0ument in prepara1on for 4alida1on. In the mean1me, please take the
1me to 0hat with your 0hild about what learning is taking pla0e in the 0lassroom at present
Koala 4oeys at 4oey5s program this week!
9a0h week at Koala Joeys, our parents and their liLle ones ha4e the opportunity to meet with a spe0ial
4isitor. /e0oming a0Juainted with and mee1ng key staG members is an important part of transi1oning
to St Joseph’s and lessens anxiety in 0hildren as they ha4e the 0han0e to be0ome familiar with the
s0hool en4ironment and people they will see in their 2016 Prep year. This week, we wel0omed our
Prin0ipal, Mr Johnson. As well as being as displaying ex0ellen0e in his role as Prin0ipal, Mr Johnson
shared some of his more hidden talents> juggling, 0ard tri0ks and magi0 in0luding a disappearing a0t.
The 0ap14e audien0e of 0hildren and grown-ups were wowed by his ability. That’s what pra010e does,
it makes things just nearly perfe0t!
Sister Jenny has started pra01sing for her 4isit with us next week!
Mrs Carroll and Mrs Hall were wowed again by the Koala Joeys’ par10ipa1on, good listening and super
pa0king up skills.

This week at MI SMARTS!
It’s amazing what our students learn in their Gardening SMART!
Our students learn to lo4e nature, to 0o-operate,
to be responsible, to understand 0ause and
eGe0t, to reason and dis0o4er as well as
understanding where food 0omes from. It is a bit
sad that many of our 0hildren think food just
0omes out of a pa0ket and as long as a pi0ture of
a fruit or a 4egetable is on the pa0kage, it must
be good for us!
This Gardening SMART on a Wednesday
a=ernoon is 0apably led by Ms /urns and there is
a mini mi smart ea0h week at lun0h1me as well
with Mrs S0hloman for our students to par10ipate in. For more informa1on about the beneKts of 0hildren and gardening, please see
