Welcome Taine Smith, Hannah and Riley’s little brother, Greer Mason, and Mum and Dad Kylie and Keith, Rafferty McIntosh, Amelia’s little brother into Kauri R8. We look forward to celebrating the success of your learning journey with you and your families!

This week we finally received our confirmed Education Review Office report. It is a very positive reflection on the teaching and learning and the general operation of our school. Please take the time to browse through the inserted copy for your family. It is important to recognise and celebrate the success together as it acknowledges the effort and participation of all school stakeholders (families, FOS, BOT and staff) in working together to make our

school environment, both in and outside of the classroom, the best it can be!

Last Saturday saw a great turn out at the wood splitting working bee. It was a full on day, but very rewarding. Thank you very much to all the Mums and Dads (and children) who turned up to get stuck in for a whole days work! Inserted into today’s newsletter is a mini raffle card for each family to help us pay the cost of felling the trees and to raise a little bit of money. Please help by selling the 5 tickets on your family ticket and returning this to school by next Wednesday at the latest. The support of all families goes a long way to honouring the effort of the Saturday crew!  

Thank you all for your participation and effort in being part of your child's 3 way

conference. It is an important opportunity to touch base with your child's teacher and to reflect on some pertinent learning and social goals for your child while at the start of a new year. This strong coalition between home and school is key in giving your child the best possible learning opportunities whilst at Myross Bush School.

Next week is looking good for our Athletics Day on Monday. Thank you to all the parents who are able to help out on the day. It is much appreciated. I look forward to seeing a lot of you there supporting your children in what is one of the biggest Southern Zone events!

Would you consider collecting from a few homes near you or becoming an online collector? Students, teachers and parent helpers enjoyed getting out in the sunshine to practice our athletics skills this week. Well done Corbin Fraser of Totara for catching some superb action shots on the ipad mini. We will be in fine form for athletics at Surrey Park on Monday. 

School News:Athletics Monday 25th:Look for your reminder notice with today’s newsletter. Don’t forget to send a small safety pin for your child’s tag on the day. Tag shows their school and events they are in.Remember that the first bus will run 15 mins early on Monday and there will be no Bainfield Road run whether the sports are on or not.

Absences:We ask that parents please notify us every day that their child is not at school. It is a Ministry requirement that we know the reason why a child is absent.

Library: Thank you to those who have offered to supervise in the library on a Friday lunchtime - if there is anyone else able to help out we could work out a roster for the rest of the term.  Please contact Mrs FM at school.  Thanks!.

Week 3 Term 1KAURI 8 (Mrs Polaschek)This week we welcome Greer Mason and Rafferty MacIntosh and their families to Kauri.  It has been lovely having an opportunity to chat with the children and their families about their progress and goals in the classroom.  We are doing a lot of thinking and talking  about what it looks like when we work well together.  It's great to see the children practicing their friendship and teamwork skills by welcoming our school visitors and helping to make school a friendly, happy place to be.  Ka pai Kauri!  Check out our blog at teamkauri.blogspot.co.nz, or you can access it through the school website.  We have started adding a collection of games to help us practice each step of the basic facts ladder.

RIMU 3 (Mrs Godby)We are learning all about working in groups and how we can be great group members. As we move into this week you will see a big list of maths questions in your child's books. These are to be completed over the week. Try to encourage your child to solve them in their head if they can and to check the answers on their fingers afterwards. It is great to see that so many children have named drink bottles here at school. If your child does not have a named drink bottle please send one along as it means that they drink whenever they need one. I am still looking for parental help. If you can spare some time in the mornings please let me know. All help is gratefully received.

RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik)We have been practising for athletics day and are ready to participate on Monday. In math's we are looking for patterns that will help us to gain instant recall of the basic facts.  I am excited to say that our first workshop movie is now on our class blog. On Tuesday it was great to set goals and talk about our learning together and I am looking forward to continuing this today after school.  Thanks for your support.  Evelyn

MIRO 5 (Mrs Kahukura) The children have settled well into our class routines and it is great to have our full reading programme up and running. We are discussing books and authors that we particularly enjoy and how a great book inspires us to read and write. Our author of the week is Dr Seuss and we are enjoying reading and sharing these.

MANUKA 6 (Mrs Carr) I have really enjoyed spending time with you and your children during the Goal Setting Interviews, what a fantastic way to focus on specific goals and aspirations, thank you for your time and enthusiasm! We are well underway for athletics practices and are enjoying the sense of pride we achieve when we work hard to improve our technique. TOTARA 7 (Miss Duncan)• We have been learning about statistics and collecting information and data. We have been learning about the 2013 Census and why this data is important information about New Zealand, it's interesting. Georgia

• We've been finding out more about the people in Totara by asking questions and getting data. My favourite thing to do in athletics is the high jump. Jack

• I'm enjoying being back with my friends and athletics training. On the 5th of March New Zealand has the census, every New Zealander has to fill out information about themselves and where they live and give statistics to the government. Greer.

KOWHAI 8 (Mr Herring)It's been great to meet you all again at our Goal Setting meetings. I appreciate all your feedback and questions about the year ahead. I'm sure we are going to have some brilliant learning adventures this year.

We are getting used to the homework components this week. There are some very thoughtful conversations happening between the students and their families with our question of the week. Watch out for some interesting projects on 'Team Work' coming your way next week!

We're really looking forward to Athletics Day next Monday. We might see you there!
