St. John Fisher College
ST. JOHN FISHER COLLEGE St. John Fisher College is an independent, liberal arts institution in the Catholic
tradition of American higher education. The College emphasizes liberal learning
for students in traditional academic disciplines, as well as for those in more
directly career-oriented fi elds. The College welcomes qualifi ed students, faculty,
and staff regardless of religious or cultural background.
The campus is situated on 154 park-like acres—a beautiful setting for 24
modern buildings and a warm, friendly campus community of 2,600 full-time
undergraduates. The College offers 31 academic majors in the humanities,
social sciences, sciences, business, and nursing, as well as 10 pre-professional
programs.
Fisher also offers 11 master’s programs and three doctoral programs.
ADMISSIONS PROCESSAdmission to St. John Fisher College is based primarily on the following: high
school record; scores on standardized tests (SAT/ACT); extracurricular activities
and/or work experience; and the high school’s evaluation of the candidate.
Interviews are also considered and strongly encouraged.
A candidate for admission to the freshman class must be a graduate of an
approved secondary school and present a minimum of 16 units of college
preparatory coursework in English, foreign languages, mathematics, and natural
and social sciences. An applicant should present a secondary school average of
85 percent or above in these academic subjects.
Fisher welcomes qualifi ed transfer students from two- and four-year colleges for
both the fall and spring terms. To be considered for admission, transfer students
must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better. If the student has
obtained an A.A., A.S., or A.A.S. degree, 60 to 66 credit hours are transferred. All
transfer applicants should consult the Undergraduate Bulletin for details.

aid programs at Fisher have been developed to help such students fi nance their
education.
Financial assistance comes from a variety of sources, including need-based and
merit-based scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time employment. Nearly all
fi nancial aid programs require applicants to fi le the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA), which analyzes fi nancial need and allows the College
to extend comprehensive fi nancial assistance. Prospective students are
encouraged to submit the FAFSA, which can be obtained from the St. John Fisher

Letter From the Athletic Director and Schedule
LETTER FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
St. John Fisher College is a vibrant, forward-looking institution with great vision. And after 23 years in athletics at Fisher, I’ve seen many
positive changes—from an expansion of athletic facilities and academic programs to an increase in student involvement in campus life.
For starters, Fisher has the infrastructure in place for any student-athlete to have an excellent academic as well as athletic experience. We’re
a member of the NCAA Division III, but we also participate in
the Empire 8 Conference, which consists of Fisher, Elmira,
Ithaca, Rochester Institute of Technology, Alfred, Stevens
Tech, Nazareth, Hartwick and Utica. This association fi ts us
very well, not only because these schools are relatively close
geographically, but because they share the same competitive
spirit.
At Fisher, we believe in linking our athletic department to
the total campus community. In fact, this campus-wide
involvement on the part of our student-athletes has actually
been proven to lead to success in the college environment.
We want smart student-athletes. Knowledge is the cornerstone
of any college career. And the 500 Fisher students who
participate in athletics in any given year have an overall grade
point average greater than 3.0. Many have even received
signifi cant academic awards. Put simply, our student-athletes
are truly students.
We also want to develop skilled athletes. Our coaching staff
is highly trained in all aspects of developing performance
character. We seek out, teach, implement, and obtain
feedback on all the latest skill-development components
available to coaches today.
Finally, what we really feel differentiates our program from
others is the tremendous importance we place on instruction
of moral character. Teddy Roosevelt once said, “To educate
a person in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace
to society.” And so, we continually reinforce the link among
morality, ethical behavior, and academic success.
We believe it’s our responsibility to educate moral, smart,
skilled, and involved student-athletes—not only because
educating the whole person is what puts us in the top tier of
excellence compared to other athletic programs, but because
it’s what helps teach students how to make a real contribution
to society.

2011 Fisher Baseball Preview
The 2010 baseball season will be one St. John Fisher College fans
won’t soon forget.
After going 5-3 in their spring trip to Florida, the Cardinals stood at 8-8 and
seemed destined for mediocrity.
But things turned around quickly for fi rst-year head coach Brandon Potter.
After losing two one-run games at R.I.T., the Cardinals bounced back the
next day and swept the Tigers to split the four-game series. Those two
wins started something special.
Fisher continued to play well for the remainder of the season, going 13-1 at
one point, and fi nished the regular season with a 28-12 overall record, while
winning the program’s fi rst Empire 8 Conference title.
“We played a pretty tough schedule to start off the season and we just
weren’t getting the breaks we needed,” says Potter, who was named as
the Empire 8 Conference Coach of the Year after Dan Pepicelli resigned in
October of 2009 to become the pitching coach at Division I-powerhouse
Clemson University. “As the season went on, we started playing more as a
team, got some breaks and we just kept the momentum going.”
Fisher earned the program’s second-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Division
III Championship, receiving the No. 2 seed for the New York Regional, and
lived up to the billing.
After scoring the fi nal three runs in a 3-2 win over SUNY Brockport in their
opening round game, the Cardinals came back the following night and
rallied from a 6-0 defi cit and beat SUNY Farmingdale 9-8 in the semifi nal.
Fisher lost its next game in the championship game of the winner’s bracket,
but came back the following day and eliminated SUNY Oneonta, knocking
off the Red Dragons 6-5 in extra innings after scoring two runs in the
bottom of the 11th frame.
The Cardinals bowed out in the regional fi nals, despite a valiant effort.
Fisher trailed 6-2 going into the top of the ninth inning, but managed to tie
the game at 6s. SUNY Cortland, however, scored in the bottom half of the
inning to win the regional, 7-6, and went on to fi nish as the national runner-
up at the College World Series.
“It was a pretty wild ride last year and one I don’t think anyone will soon
forget,” says Potter, who graduated from Fisher in 2004. “We know how
close we were to going to the World Series and we know what we need to
get there now.”
While matching last year’s accomplishments (Fisher fi nished the year with
a 31-14 record, the most wins in the program’s 23-year history) won’t be
easy, Potter believes his team has the talent to do just that.
Fisher will clearly miss some of its key players from last year, especially
Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year Dan Jurik, who was drafted in the 25th round
by the Atlanta Braves, but still has the talent to make another postseason
run.
“When you look at this year’s team, the only difference I see is that we’re
younger and not as experienced,” says Potter, who has Fisher ranked in
every national preseason poll. “Talent-wise, this year’s team should be
better than last year, it’s just going to come down to how quickly they adjust
to playing at the collegiate level.”
With Fisher graduating its top four starters from last year and its primary
closer, the Cardinals will rely on their offense in 2011.
Fisher will feature just three seniors on this year’s team, who will provide
leadership both on and off the fi eld.
Catcher Leo Fusilli, the 2009 Empire 8 Player of the Year, returns for his
fi nal season. In his two seasons with the Cardinals (he transferred to Fisher
after playing at Division I St. Bonaventure), Fusilli has driven in 64 runs,
while batting .395.
Fellow seniors Marc Montesano and Ross Langevin are back for their
fi nal seasons and will be two of Fisher’s primary outfi elders. Montesano,
who batted a team-best .385 last year in 33 games, should be in right fi eld,
while Langevin will use his speed to roam in center fi eld.
Matt Klock and Sean Osterman, who platooned in the outfi eld last year
and combined to start in 45 games, will also be in the outfi eld, as will Ben
Ward, a two-time All-Region selection at Finger Lakes Community College,
and freshman Nick DiMartino.
In the infi eld, sophomore Ben Bostick, the 2010 Empire 8 Rookie of the
Year, returns after setting the College-record for triples in a season with six.
He also ranked second on the team with 37 runs scored and 32 RBI.
Bostick will be joined in the infi eld by Chris Roeder, a freshman who
starred at Victor, while fellow fi rst-year player David Locke of Penfi eld will
also vie for playing time.
Steve Karnyski, a two-time Empire 8 All-Conference selection, returns for
his junior year and should see plenty of time at fi rst base, while Ward and
freshman Brad Rush, an All-State selection from Albion, will also challenge.

At the other corner, freshman Nate Harris, an All-State
First Team selection from McQuaid, will push for the
starting job, as will returner Peter Krystof.
“We’ve got plenty of options in both the infi eld and the
outfi eld,” Potter says. “We’re going to be a quicker team
and we’re going to use our speed to produce runs.”
Much like its fi eld players, Fisher’s pitching staff, which
ranked No. 8 last year in Division III in earned run
average, should have several contributors this spring.
Junior pitchers Tim Johnson, Jeremy Willard and Tim
Sylvester are Fisher’s only returning upperclassmen.
Johnson, who has the velocity to pitch at the next level,
will move to the starting rotation after spending last year
in the bullpen, as will Willard, who started in fi ve games
last year.
Sylvester will look to step in as Fisher’s primary closer,
while sophomore Aaron Benton, who allowed just
one earned run in 14 innings pitched last year, will be
Fisher’s set-up man.
Sophomore Adam Pettinella, who went 3-2 and
appeared in 14 games, and classmate Zach Weaver
(2.45 ERA) will also see an increased role after stellar
rookie years.
Fisher will also see some newcomers on the mound.
Freshman Justin D’Amato, who was an All-State
selection at Canandaigua Academy, should make an
immediate impact, as should Josh Cox, a junior, who
was Jefferson Community College’s top pitcher last
spring, and Matt Mika, a transfer from University of
Akron.
Freshmen Aidan Weise and Ryan Trauger will also see
time on the hill.
The Cardinals will fi nd out right away just where they
stand. Fisher will play in the RussMatt Central Florida
Invitational and will play six teams that won at least 25
games last year.
After returning home, Fisher will face several of the top
teams in the area, while looking to defend its Empire 8
Conference title.
“Our No. 1 goal for this year is to win the Empire 8 and
make it back to NCAA’s,” Potter says. “If we can stay
healthy and continue to get better week after week, I
think we can reach our goals.”

Greg McKeown
After completing a successful four-year career with the Cardinals, Greg
McKeown enters his third season as an assistant coach.
McKeown, who was signed for a brief time by the Texarkana (TX)
Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League post-graduation, led the
Cardinals with 43 strikeouts in his fi nal season. He guided the Cardinals
to a 25-14 overall record with an appearance in the ECAC Upstate
Championship as a senior, after fi nishing his junior season with a 2.08
ERA and an NCAA win over Skidmore.
Mckeown received a bachelor’s degree from Fisher and currently resides
in Rochester.
Brandon Potter
After serving as interim head coach last spring, Brandon Potter has been
named the St. John Fisher College baseball head coach.
In his fi rst year at the helm of the Cardinals, Potter coached Fisher to its
best season in the program’s 23-year history. Fisher fi nished the 2010
season with an overall record of 31-14, setting a new College-record for
wins in a season. The Cardinals won their fi rst Empire 8 Conference title
and fi nished second at the New York Regional of the NCAA Division III
Championship, bowing out 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning in the title
game to the eventual national runner-up. Senior pitcher Dan Jurik was
taken in the 25th round of the MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves.
Potter played four years of baseball while attending Fisher. As a catcher he
was named to the Empire 8 second team in his senior year (2004) after making honorable mention in his junior season (2003).
Potter also played for the Finger Lakes Community College baseball team, being recognized as an All-Region selection in 2001.
After graduating from Fisher, he spent a year with the Cardinal baseball coaching staff as an assistant. He helped guide Fisher to a successful 2006 season,
fi nishing 26-15.
Potter went on to serve as an assistant coach for Minnesota State University, Mankato (NSIC – DII) where he aided in setting a school record for wins (45), and
Cerro Coso Community College (Foothills Conference) in Ridgecrest, California. Between those two positions he coached fi ve players taken in the MLB Draft. He
also served as fi rst the pitching coach and then the Head Coach for the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s (NYCBL) Watertown Wizards.
Potter is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and currently resides in Victor.
