Three-time Summit League Coach of the Year Chris Johnson enters his ninth season at the helm of the IUPUI women’s soccer program in 2011 and his 18th year as a collegiate head coach. Johnson ranks as the program’s all-time wins leader and since taking

over the IUPUI program in 2003, has made IUPUI a recognizable name and elevated the Jaguars to new heights. The 2009 season was one to remember for Johnson and the Jag-uars as IUPUI totaled a school record 17 wins and captured its sec-ond straight Summit League regular season co-championship. From there, Johnson’s team rolled to wins over North Dakota State and South Dakota State in The Summit League Tournament to earn the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. For his achievements, he earned his third Summit League Coach of the Year Award and became the first mentor to win back-to-back honors in the process. During the fairytale season, IUPUI rattled off a school record 12 straight wins at one point, ranking second only to Stanford’s win streak for the longest in the country. IUPUI also set an assortment of new school records including scoring 41 goals and tying the school mark with eight shutouts. Individually, his student-athletes piled up a slew of awards too as Stephanie Hoffman became the first IUPUI player ever to be named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and Alicia Brock became IUPUI’s first-ever Offensive Player of the Year. Brock and McCrory also became IUPUI’s first-ever All-Region honorees and McCrory and Anna Pigg earned Academic All-District honors. The 2008 season saw IUPUI begin its upward trend as Johnson led the Jaguars to a then-school re-cord 13 victories and a share of its first-ever Summit League Regular Season crown. In addition, John-son’s club reached the four-team league tournament for the first time since 2001, earning him Coach of the Year honors. That year, IUPUI set a new school record with eight shutouts and recorded seven straight league wins and a school record six-game winning streak to close the regular season. The six-game winning streak included the program’s first-ever win over crosstown rival Butler and an emphatic 2-0 win over regionally ranked Evansville. Following the season, Brock became just the second player in IUPUI history to earn league

Newcomer of the Year honors and McCrory was the program’s first First Team All-League pick since 2000. The four Jaguars earning All-League honors were the most in school history. Although IUPUI bowed out in the opening round of The Summit League Tournament to SDSU in ‘08, McCrory continued to rack up accolades following the year. She was named Academic All-Region by multiple outlets and later became the second women’s soccer player under Johnson to earn the IUPUI Michael A. Carroll Scholarship. In 2010, five of Johnson’s players were honored by The Summit League, with three earning a spot on the All-Newcomer Team. Johnson enters the 2011 season as the program’s all-time leader in wins (61), winning percentage (.459) and matches coached (137). In 2009, he was also named Indiana’s Responsible Coach Award Winner, sponsored by Liberty Mutual in association with ASA Softball, Positive Coaching Alliance, USA Football and US Youth Soccer. Johnson’s program has been elite defensively under his tutelage, posting the seven lowest goals against average totals in school his-tory under his direction. His teams have been at their best under pres-sure, as evidenced by his 8-3-12 record in overtime matches while at IUPUI. Despite a disappointing record in 2007, his student-athletes still accomplished some program firsts. Seniors Sheri Levack and Lisa Gebhard became the first-ever Academic All-Region selections in the program’s history and both later shared the IUPUI Dorothy Cheesman

Award - the highest academic honor given to a female graduating student-athlete. In addition, Levack finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in assists (15). Gebhard later became the first for-mer IUPUI women’s soccer player to ink a professional contract, signing to play with FC Gutersloh of the German 2nd Bundesliga. In 2006, his Jaguars posted the second best winning percentage in program history, finishing the year at 6-7-5. Four of his student-athletes were honored by the Mid-Continent Conference, headlined by a trio of Second Team All-Conference per-formers. Gebhard earned her second honor, while freshman goalkeeper Jamie Farrell ranked among the nation’s elite in goals against average and save percentage en route to second team honors. Additionally, Emily Hicks was picked to the second team and McCrory was chosen to the All-New-comer Team. The Jaguars went 2-2-2 in league play, but missed the postseason for the second time in three years, de-spite posting a .500 record. It was a year of firsts as well, as IUPUI posted it’s first-ever win over Oakland, while

also getting its first-ever ties with in-state foes Butler and IPFW. Johnson, also the 2004 Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year, is responsible for the only winning seasons in the program’s history, while establishing a host of school records along the way. De-spite a roster predominantly of underclassmen that season, the Jags set then-new marks for single-season wins (10), winning percentage (.588) and shutouts (7). The Jags had three players receive all-conference recognition for the first time since 2000 and was honored with the Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the second consecutive year. Johnson’s squad amassed a 10-7-0 record, including a win over NCAA Tournament participant Detroit on the road and a pair of school record four-game winning streaks. His team, noted for its defensive prowess, allowed just two goals during a seven-game stretch in which they outscored the opposition 13-2. The Jags narrowly missed out on the program’s first Mid-Con Tournament bid since 2001, despite turn-ing in a 3-3-0 mark against league foes. Known for his ability to recruit and develop talent at the Division I level, the Indianapolis-native has scoured the state and the Midwest to land talented high school standouts since arriving at IUPUI. While his recruiting classes have been built around in-state talent, he’s also brought players from California, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Wis-consin and even Ontario and Germany to the university. Off the field, Johnson’s program is among IUPUI’s best in the class-room and in the community. Since 2005, more than 100 members of his squad earned Academic All-Conference honors and 42 have been named to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence. Johnson’s rebuilding project began in 2003 when his young squad had a 2-13-2 record, but lost eight matches by two goals or less, four of which were Mid-Con matches. He picked up his first-ever Division I win at Eastern Michigan on Oct. 3 in overtime. That season, junior Angie Volovich was honored with the Dorothy Cheesman Award and was also chosen among the Top 100 students at the university. In 2005, junior Joan Vidimos was awarded the Michael A. Carroll Scholarship, which is the highest recognition given to a returning student-athlete, while Lacey Barron was honored with the Cheesman Award. Vidimos followed by winning the Cheesman Award in 2006. Later, Jennifer Scorniaenchi was named to the IUPUI Top 100 list and three others were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. In 2007, Gebhard became the most recent to be selected among the university’s Top 100. Johnson’s hiring in March of 2003 paid immediate dividends as he put together one of the deepest recruiting classes in the program’s short history. Despite an abbreviated recruiting season, Johnson added nine student-athletes to the roster in the spring recruiting period alone. Those nine additions accounted for 47 percent of the team’s offense and combined to make 63 starts. Prior to coming to IUPUI, Johnson spent nine years building the women’s soccer program at the University of Indianapolis. As the first

coach in school history, Johnson compiled an 81-79-2 record, includ-ing a 13-5-1 mark in 2001. That season, his Greyhounds reached the No. 24 spot in the NCAA Division II polls on Oct. 1. Johnson also put the program in the polls on Sept. 16, 1997 after defeating two nationally ranked teams. He helped his teams improve from 1-8-0 in their initial campaign in 1994 to 12-7-0 by 1996. Prior to that, Johnson spent one season as an assistant coach with the Greyhounds’ men’s soccer program in 1993. He has also worked for the Indianapolis Public Schools in the Business Magnet Program at Northwest High School for three years. The 42-year old Johnson has also been active with the Indiana Olym-pic Development Program, having served as a trainer, assistant coach and head coach for the Indiana ODP teams for more than 10 years. He holds a USSF ‘A’ License and an NSCAA Premier License, which he received in 2005. Johnson is active with various soccer camps including hosting a clinic for the Indianapolis Hispanic community and at the Center Grove Soccer Club. He’s since expanded his camp branding to form on-campus College ID Camps and also hosted camps at various high schools in Northwest Indiana. He also assists annually with the Indiana University Summer Soccer Camps. Collegiately, Johnson was a four-year letterwinner at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. While there, he helped the team to its first-ever winning season, first national ranking and first trip to the conference finals. He served as team captain as a senior. He graduated from SJC with a degree in accounting in May 1991. He and his wife, Andrea, have two children - Quinn (13) and Maren (10) - and reside in Indianapolis.

In addition, three freshmen were pegged to the league’s All-Newcomer Team at season’s end. Academically, the Jag-uars ranked among the department’s best in the classroom, achieving well above a 3.0 GPA both semesters of the year. Gebhard was a four-year starter for the Jaguars from 2004-07, finishing her collegiate career among the program’s all-time leaders in games played and games started. She was pegged Second Team All Mid-Continent Conference in both 2005 and 2006 and was the team’s Defensive MVP her senior year. She also became one of the first two student-athletes in the program’s history to earn Academic All-District honors, being voted to the second team in 2007. In addition, she was recognized among the university’s Top 100 students and co-recipient of the athletic department’s Dorothy Cheesman Award, given annually to the top senior student-athlete based on academic performance. Despite playing for three coaches in two seasons, she aided the club to a third-place finish in its division in year one. Individually, she scored three goals from her defensive spot in her initial campaign. While in Germany, she was also employed by Sony/BMG in the music division. She later began her coaching career by volunteering with FSV Gütersloh’s 13-14 year old team before returning to IUPUI. She also taught English to elementary aged students two days a week. IUPUI Hall of Fame The IUPUI Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1993 by the IUPUI Letterman’s Club (now Jaguars Letter Club) in cooperation with the IUPUI Athletics Department, the IU and Purdue Alumni Associations and the IUPUI Metro Athletic Club (now Jaguars Athletics Club). The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of IUPUI in the field of athletics and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted by intercollegiate athletics. The IUPUI Jaguars Letter Club was founded in 1993 by the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations. The purpose of the club is to unite former student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and managers in support of the IUPUI athletic pro-gram. Through 2011, the IUPUI Hall of Fame includes 50 individuals and one team.

She also holds the school record with 12 game-winning goals and is responsible for two of the program’s four hat tricks in school history. The four-time Team MVP earned three All Mid-Continent Conference selections, while starting all 73 matches of her collegiate career (also a school record). Off the field, she was equally spectacular, be-ing named one of IUPUI’s Top 100 students in 2001 and 2002. She was also a four-year member of the National College Athlete Honor Society and a three-time Academic All-Conference pick. She earned a B.S. in Business Management from the Kelley School of Business in 2002.

The birth of the intercollegiate athletics program at IUPUI oc-curred January 14, 1971, when the Faculty Council approved a rec-ommendation from its Athletics Affairs Committee that “IUPUI engage in intercollegiate sports and become a regular member of the NCAA as soon as possible.” In making its recommendations, the committee said it felt that“intercollegiate sports were necessary to complete the University’srelationship to the community at large and to its alumni.” The com-mittee went on to say that it felt that an intercollegiate program would be “a positive morale factor for students and would help develop an identification with the institution.” After playing an abbreviated men’s basketball schedule in early 1972, the IUPUI intercollegiate athletics program officially began competition during the 1972-73 academic year with that program serv-ing as the university’s first varsity sport. The men’s program offerings expanded during the 1974-75 season with the addition of golf and tennis to varsity status, and then again in the 1987-88 academic year when soccer gained varsity status. Baseball replaced golf as a varsity sport during the 1979-80 campaign. Men’s golf was reintroduced to the intercollegiate lineup in 1994-95. Intercollegiate athletics at IUPUI expanded to include women’s sports in 1975-76, with the introduction of basketball, softball and volleyball as varsity sports. Women’s tennis was added in 1989-90. IUPUI received national acclaim in the sports world in 1987 when the Pan American Games were hosted in Indianapolis and on the down-town campus. With the hosting of the event, world class facilities for swimming, track, soccer and softball were built across the south end of campus and are still utilized by IUPUI teams. With the addition of men’s and women’s cross country and women’s swimming and diving in the fall of 1997, the IUPUI intercol-legiate athletic program was represented by 12 intercollegiate teams that completed at the NCAA Division II level. In the beginning, the intercollegiate program was unaffiliatedexcept for an associate membership in the NCAA. In 1978, IUPUIjoined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA),and in January of 1993, the institution’s application for membership in Division II of the NCAA was approved. While affiliated with the NAIA, IUPUI teams won 32 state andregional championships. IUPUI reached the Sweet Sixteen in men’s basketball (1989-90), the Final Four in women’s basketball (1990-91) and finished second nationally in women’s volleyball (1991-92). Beginning in 1983, the IUPUI softball team made nine consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, finishing as high as third on three occasions. Intercollegiate athletics at IUPUI made its way to the NCAA Div sion I level as the Trustees of Indiana University approved the move at their Oct. 30, 1997 meeting in New Albany. That opened the door for IUPUI to join a new level of competition in the NCAA. IUPUI then was admitted into The Summit League (formerly Mid-Continent Conference), announced just 12 days later at a press conference on the campus of IUPUI. Upon entrance to the Mid-Con, IUPUI was involved in scheduling and competition for championships beginning in the 1998-99 academic year. The addition of men’s swim-ming and diving and women’s soccer in the fall of 1998 brought IU-PUI’s total to 14 sports. The total was bumped to 15 on Oct. 20, 1999, when the university announced that women’s golf would become a varsity sport starting in 2000. The total dropped back to its current 14 when the university announced on May 18, 2001, the discontinuation of the baseball program. In 2011, the sport offerings increased to 16 as both men’s and women’s track and field were added. IUPUI has enjoyed considerable success as a Division I school, not only athletically, but academically. During the 2009-10 campaign, women’s diver Chen Ni became the first IUPUI student-athlete to win an NCAA National Champion-

ship, earning the top spot in the country in the plat-form event. Moreso, she became the first female student-athlete in Summit League history to earn a national crown. Collectively, IUPUI teams have earned NCAA Tournament bids in men’s soccer, men’s golf, men’s basketball, women’s tennis and most recently women’s soccer. In addi-tion, IUPUI teams have captured regular season crowns in volleyball and men’s tennis. IUPUI student-ath-letes have been recog-nized as Summit League Athletes of the Year 16 times, with coaches earn-ing numerous Coach of the Year honors. IUPUI’s athletic teams have also excelled in the classroom. The women’s tennis team has been chosen as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for seven straight years. The men’s cross country team has been recognized by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association as Academic All-American the past seven seasons, while the women’s team earned the same honor from the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association nine/ times. In 2001-02, the women’s basketball team was selected by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to its Top 25 Honor Roll. In the fall of 2002, the athletic department as a whole was honored by The USA Today and the NCAA for having the highest improvement in graduation rate in the country for its category. In 2003, The USA Today and NCAA recognized IUPUI again - this time for graduating more than the previously counted cohort. Individually, IUPUI has had three student-athletes earn First Team Academic All-America honors, while making a precedent of ranking among the conference leaders in academic honorees. IUPUI has also established a pattern of commitment to serving their community. The Jaguars have averaged over nearly 1,000 hours of community service the past five years, taking part in youth clinics, hosting a Canned Food Drive and Adopt-A-Family programs and par-ticipating in several charity walk-a-thons. Head Basketball Coach Ron Hunter earned national acclaim in 2007-08, partnering with Samari-tan’s Feet to raise shoes for impoverished children across the world. He and members of his program later traveled to Costa Rica and Peru to personally deliver the shoes to needy children. Additionally, the Athletics department has partnered with IPS School 42 on a reading program in an effort to improve reading comprehension and career networking.

“Ascending” and “improving” are adjectives frequently used in media coverage of The Summit League as it continues a renaissance on the playing eld and in the classroom. As The Summit League celebrates its 30th anniversary season as an NCAA Division I athletics conference, the level of performance and achievement among the 11 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes in 19 championship sports continues to grow. Since 2007, The Summit League has produced 39 All-Americans and 28 Academic All-America selections along with three NCAA Champions, two NBA Draft choices and one Olympic Silver medalist. Headlining The Summit League’s most recent history were the additions of the University of South Dakota and the University of Nebraska Omaha to its membership. USD joined in 2009 and the 2011-12 academic year marks its rst year of full league competition. UNO’s membership took effect on July 1, 2011 and it will begin league competition in 2012-13. The Summit League’s visibility continues to expand on several fronts. The 2011 Baseball Championship drew a record 5,128 fans, topping the previous high by almost 1,500. Another successful Summit League Basketball Championship totaled a combined attendance of over 32,000 which ranked as the second-highest gure in league history while the men’s tournament was one of just six outside the traditional “power conferences” to average 4,400 or better per session. Television exposure also increased with the broadcasts of four Summit League sport championships in 2010-11. For the second consecutive season, all 14 men’s and women’s basketball tournament games were televised live, including the women’s championship on ESPNU and the men’s on ESPN2. Furthermore, The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships were televised for the rst time and the league’s entire Baseball Tournament was carried live, marking another rst. The national reach of The Summit League was furthered when three member institutions hosted 2010-11 NCAA Championship events. IUPUI was a quad-host for the Women’s Basketball Final Four, UMKC co-hosted the Volleyball Championship and Oakland hosted the Great Lakes Cross Country Regional Championship. In 2013, Oakland will host the Men’s Basketball Second and Third Rounds and IUPUI will serve as co-host for a Men’s Basketball Regional. In men’s basketball, The Summit League ranked No. 18 in the Sagarin Ratings, placing four teams among the top 150 and six in the top 200. In the Mid-Major Top 25 poll, league champion Oakland ranked No. 5 with two rst-place votes entering the NCAA Tournament, putting them ahead of two Final Four participants, including the national runner-up. The Summit League set a league-record by playing 16 games against AP nationally-ranked teams, the highest total among mid-majors, including seven top-10 opponents, highlighted by Oakland’s win at then-No. 7 Tennessee. Women’s basketball joined the men in sending multiple teams to the postseason with three teams advancing for the second-straight year, including Oral Roberts, which reached the WNIT’s round of 16 to match the league’s deepest run in that tournament. Summit League teams combined to record four victories over “power six” conference foes during the season.

Individually on the hardwood, Oakland’s Keith Benson was selected in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks and Oral Roberts’ Steven Roundtree was named Mid-Major Freshman of the Year by CollegeInsider.com. On the women’s side, ORU’s Kevi Luper became the rst player in NCAA history to lead the nation in both points per game and steals per game in the same season. Several teams continued impressive championship streaks within the league in 2010-11. Oral Roberts, which nished the season nationally-ranked, won its 14th-straight baseball title, tying for the second-longest streak in NCAA history. Oakland captured its 12th-consecutive men’s and women’s swimming and diving titles while North Dakota State won its fourth-straight men’s and women’s indoor track and eld championships and its third softball crown in a row. South Dakota State became the rst women’s basketball team to win three consecutive league championships. The Summit League enjoyed a successful track and eld season with eight All-Americans, including six at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Oral Roberts’ Jack Whitt nished as runner-up in the pole vault at the Outdoor Championships after placing third indoors. North Dakota State’s Whitney Carlson became the rst female athlete in league history to earn All-America honors in two events at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships during the same year. Two Summit League student-athletes received the prestigious NCAA Elite 88 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the nals site for each of the NCAA championships. Amy Anderson (women’s golf) and Carlson (outdoor track and eld), both from North Dakota State, the lone non-FBS public university to have multiple recipients, were presented with the honor and added All-America honors for their athletic performances. Anderson led the league’s individual accomplishments, placing 12th at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, the highest nish ever by a Summit League player, and competing as an amateur in the U.S. Women’s Open. IPFW’s Amy Recht claimed her fourth consecutive Women’s Tennis Player of the Year honor and became the rst Summit League athlete to win the sport’s top award in each season of eligibility. Academically, six Summit League student-athletes received Academic All-America honors and six teams were bestowed with the NCAA Public Recognition Award, an honor given to teams that have a Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The accomplishments of 2010-11 came on the heels of the exceptional success the previous two years. In 2009-10, IUPUI’s Chen Ni became The Summit League’s rst female NCAA Champion when she took rst in the platform dive. Oakland’s Keith Benson was named the Lou Henson Award winner as the nation’s Mid-Major Player of the Year. The preceding year, Oral Roberts track star Andretti Bain won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a member of the

Bahamas’ 4x400-meter relay team after winning both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 400-meter titles and IUPUI’s George Hill became The Summit League’s second NBA rst round draft pick. Originally formed in 1982 as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities and later known as the Mid-Continent Conference, The Summit League is in its fth year of rebranding that followed its 25th anniversary and coincided with the Summit Plan, a strategic plan that places a renewed emphasis on improving the academic and athletic performances of all league student-athletes. Included in the plan was the league’s new name, the creation of a new image and the addition of three member institutions. The Summit League has a combined enrollment of over 135,000 at 11 universities, ve of which are located in the top 76 U.S. media markets (Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Tulsa and Omaha). Member institutions include: IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne), IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis), UMKC (University of Missouri-Kansas City), the University of Nebraska Omaha (which begins league competition in 2012-13), North Dakota State University, Oakland University, Oral Roberts University, the University of South Dakota (in its rst year as a full member), South Dakota State University, Southern Utah University and Western Illinois University. Eastern Illinois University is an associate member in swimming and diving and men’s soccer. These member institutions pride themselves on providing quality athletic, academic and social experiences for their student-athletes. The league champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in all applicable sports. Since its inception in 1982, The Summit League has had several transcendent moments on the national stage. In 1986, Cleveland State upset third-seeded Indiana in the rst round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on its way to a berth in the Sweet 16. A decade later, Valparaiso captured the nation’s attention when Bryce Drew hit “the shot” to defeat No. 4 seed Mississippi in an NCAA rst-round game and spark its Sweet 16 run. More recently, Oral Roberts’ baseball program nished the 2004 campaign with a national-ranking and became the rst Summit League school to reach an NCAA Super Regional in 2006. Three years later, North Dakota State’s 2009 softball team became the rst League member to win an NCAA regional and advance to the Super Regional round. During the 2008-09 basketball season, South Dakota State’s women’s team was nationally-ranked throughout the year and capped its season with an NCAA Tournament rst round victory. The League has produced ve NCAA champions, four Olympic athletes and several All-Americans in the sports of track and eld, swimming and diving and cross country. Numerous professional athletes and several draft choices have come directly from The Summit League, including three Major League Baseball rst round picks, a pair of NBA rst rounders, and one WNBA selection. Former Summit Leaguer Kevin Duckworth (NBA) was a two-time all-star during his professional career. Recent and historical success coupled with an increased growth among its membership base gives The Summit League a promising future on the landscape of college athletics.

Michael MoorewwDirector of Athletics Michael R. Moore has served as IUPUI’s Director of Athletics since July 1, 1996. During his tenure, he has overseen IUPUI’s growth from its beginning as a NCAA Divison I member to winning its first NCAA championship in March 2010. In his 15-year span in charge of the Jaguars, IUPUIDivision has been accepted as a member of The Summit League (formerly Mid-Continent Conference), was fully certified under the NCAA Athletics Certification Program and has expanded from nine to 16 varsity programs (seven men and nine women). Under Moore’s direction, IUPUI has experienced both athletic and academic success. The 2000 men’s soccer team made the first NCAA Tournament in IUPUI’s history. Since then, women’s tennis (2003, 2004), men’s golf (2002, 2005), men’s basketball (2003) and women’s soccer (2009) have all participated in NCAA Championships. The men’s soccer (1999), volleyball (2000), men’s tennis (2004) and women’s soccer (2008, 2009) teams have won regular season league titles. IUPUI also captured USA Today/NCAA Academic Achievement Awards in 2002 and 2003. In March 2010, IUPUI crowned its first NCAA titlist, as diver Chen Ni claimed first place on the platform, marking another milestone in the school’s athletics history. Leading into the 2009-10 academic year, Moore restructured IUPUI’s academic support system, resulting in record

highs in 3.0 student-athletes and departmental grade point averages. In May 2010, the departmental GPA reached an all-time high of 3.081, while 59 student-athletes received recognition on the Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, and 125 Jaguars earned a place on the con-ference’s All-Academic Teams. During his time at IUPUI, Moore has served in multiple leadership positions, both within The Summit League and the NCAA. Moore worked as Chair of the Mid-Continent Conference Joint Council and as President of the NCAA I-AAA Athletics Director Association in 2003-04. Moore has also served multiple times as a peer reviewer in the NCAA Division I Certification Program. He currently serves as chair of the Summit League Men’s Basket-ball Committee. He served as the Summit League’s representative to the NCAA Division I Management Council from 2001-2008. While on the Management Coun-cil, he served on the Administrative Review Sub-Committee, acting as Chair in 2007-2008, and also on the Governance Sub-Committee. Prior to assuming his present position, the Lancaster, Ohio-native was the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Development at the University of Evansville from 1988-96. In that position, he supervised the Purple Aces Club, began the in house production of the Aces Radio Network, instituted the university licensing program and coordinated special events on campus. He was the university’s assistant athletic director for budgetary affairs from 1983-88. Moore also worked at Davidson College from 1981-1983 as Assistant Director of the Wildcat Club. In that position, Moore was responsible for the ticket operation, regional fundraising, marketing and promotions, game management and special events. Moore began his career in intercollegiate athletics as an Intern in the Vanderbilt University athletics department in 1980. Moore received both his undergraduate (BA, History ’78) and Masters (Sports Administration ’80) Degrees from Ohio University. He also earned a certificate from The Sports Management Institute in 1994. Michael and his wife, Suzann reside in Indianapolis. He has two daughters, Maggie and Molly.

Did you know that the IUPUI Athletics Department pays out nearly $1.5 million annually in athletics aid to student-athletes? Last year, the IUPUI Jaguars Athletics Club (JAC) saw a nearly 6 percent growth in donor participation. Club members enjoy many benefits including invitations to special events, a weekly elec-tronic newsletter, pregame hospitality at home basketball games and tax deductions. wwAre you in? Help us meet the urgent scholarship needs of the IUPUI Athletics Department and make your contribution by calling John Rasmussen at 317-274-5453. Below is a comprehensive list-ing of the 2010-11 JAC donors.

The Jaguars Athletics Club’s (JAC) primary purpose is to raise scholarship funds to build, support and maintain a competitive first-class Division I athletics program for student-athletes in 14 intercollegiate sports (men’s basketball, cross country, golf, soc-cer, swimming & diving and tennis and women’s basketball cross, country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball). Supporting intercollegiate athletics invests in our future by providing scholarship aid to student-athletes. In addition, intercollegiate athletics offers the student-athlete an opportunity to develop leadership, discipline, camaraderie and initiative, while pursuing academic goals. Over the course of a year, the JAC hosts numerous special events to help spur on the effort. The events allow IUPUI student-athletes, coaches and administrators the op-portunity to foster positive relationships with influential members of the Indianapolis-com-munity. The events also help build a connection with IUPUI alumni and current student-athletes.

The Senior Dinner is a year-end cel-ebration of the careers of IUPUI student-athletes. 2011, Brittney McDuffee and Aaron Kremer (left) were awarded the Mel Garland Distinguished Student-Athlete Awards at the conclusion of the event.

The Jag Jaunt for Women’s Scholar-ships (below) is in its fourth year and helps provide educational and athletic opportunities for female student-ath-letes. In its first three years, the event raised over $15,000 towards athletic scholarships.

The Michael A. Carroll Golf Outing (bot-tom) recently completed its 31st year in existence and raises approximately $30,000 annually for student-athlete scholarships. One top student-athlete is honored with a scholarship in Mike Car-roll’s name annually.

wwMICHAEL A. CARROLL GOLF OUTING It is difficult to overstate the importance of the late Michael A. Carroll to the birth and development of the IUPUI Athletics program. For more than a decade, he was its number one advocate, fundraiser and cheer-leader. In 1981, he organized what is now the Jaguars Athletics Club. A year later, he coordinated the IUPUI fund raising golf outing that now bears his name. Until his untimely death in a 1992 mid-air plane crash, the former Lilly Endowment executive nurtured, nudged and lassoed many Indianapolis business leaders to share his vision for a “big league” collegiate athletics program at IUPUI. Although he carried other enormous responsibilities in a civic and political career that spanned 25 years, IUPUI’s growth seemed to be Mike’s most enthusias-tic avocation. IUPUI’s evolution into NCAA Division I status would have left him beaming. However, he would have been the first to remind us that IUPUI is still a masterpiece in progress, never a finished work of art!

wwBASKETBALL TIPOFF LUNCHEON The drive to the men’s and women’s basketball NCAA Tournaments begin with the annual tipoff luncheon. This is your chance to meet the men’s and women’s basketball teams and hear a preview of the upcoming season from Head Coaches Todd Howard and Austin Parkinson. Widely known as one of the de-partment’s marquee events, the day typically features cutting edge multimedia in an intimate atmosphere and entertaining commentary from both coaches.

wwJAG JAUNT - WALK FOR WOMEN’S SCHOLARSHIPS The goal of the IUPUI Athletics Department is to provide students with the opportunity to compete in athletics while at the same time, earn a degree from one of the top two academic programs in the country. One way to provide such opportunities is through this relatively new fall event, designed to raise money for women’s scholarships. With more scholarship dollars, more female students will have a chance at higher education. In 2010, the event was restructured to include a 5K run around the canal and a 3K family friendly walk along the same course.

wwSENIOR STUDENT-ATHLETE BRUNCHThe mission of the Senior Brunch is simple - to celebrate the distinguished academic and athletic careers of IUPUI’s graduating student-athletes. In its sixth year of existence, the Senior Brunch also marks the day when the end-of-year major awards are pre-sented and announced to the public. Each senior is given a framed photo commemorating their contribu-tions to the program while four-year letterwinners are awarded a ring.

IUPUI Champions While champions can be measured in terms of wins and losses, goals scored, minutes played, baskets made and other figures, the IUPUI Athletics Department considers any former student-athlete that earned a degree from the university as a champion. We are proud to recognize the following individuals as IUPUI Champions – student athletes who have graduated from IUPUI since the beginning of the athletics program in 1972. While every effort has been made to be inclusive we realize that some individuals may have inadvertently been left of the list. Please contact John Rasmussen, Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs, at [email protected] so we can ensure that our records can truly reflect and honor our IUPUI Champions.Name (Sport) Degree Grad YearwwAAAavang, Deanne (WXC) Optometry 2005Abel, Betsie (WSWIM) 2002Abner, Gary (MBB) Fine Arts 1977Adams, Danielle (VB) Public Health 2001Adams, George (MTEN) Science 1991Adams, Jessie (SB) Occupational Therapy 1998Agnew, Julien (MXC) Economics 2001Allen, Jeff (MBB) Chemistry 1991Allen, Teresa (SB) Physical Education 1986Anderson, Grant (MSWIM) P.E./ Personal Training 2004Anderson, Jennifer (WSWIM) 2002Anderson, Lindsay (WSWIM) General Studies 2006Aquino, Rommel (MSOC) Business 2003Ashworth, John (MBB) Sociology 2011Ates, Ceren (WBB) Communications 2002Avery, Jon (MBB) Sport Management 2010wwBBBaas, Sue (SB) Business/ Public Affairs 1983Bailey, Andrea (SB) Social Work 2004Bailey, Tracy (VB) Biology 2006Baker, Brad (MGO) 2000Balko, Tim (MSWIM) Health Administration 2007Barlay, Thua (MSOC) PUI-AS 1997Barlow, David (MBB) General Studies 2009Barrett, Brandon (MSOC/TEN) Business 2001Barron, Lacey (WSOC) 2006Bastin, Chelsea (VB) Psychology 2009Battle, Charlie (MBB) Physical Education 1976Bayer, Olivia (WSWIM) General Studies 2009Beal, Rob (MSOC) 2000Beal, Sherry (SB) Social Work 1998Bechinski, Annemarie (SB/VB) Arts 1996Becker, Josh (MTEN) 2008Bednar, Natalie (WTEN) Mechanical Engineering 2003Bell, Damon (MTEN) 2001Bellamy, Devika (VB) International Studies 2008Bernath, Trudy (SB) Business Studies 1983Bertch, Jeff (MGO) Marketing/Supply Chain Mgt 2009Bess, Megan (WBB) 2008Biljic, Alex (MSOC) Business 2001Bingham, Jesse (MBB) Physical Education 1992Bixler, Marcy (VB) Business 1989Blaydes, Laura (WBB) German 2011Boggs, Brooke (WBB) 2006Boles, Lauren (WGO) Education 2007Boles, Scott (MBB) Science 1984Bolling, Derek (MGO) General Studies 2005Bolton, Glenda (SB) Physical Educaton 1977Boone, Tara (WGO) General Studies 2010Booyer, Alicia (WBB) Sport Management 2008Bowditch, Michael (MSOC) Physical Education 2005Bowling, Darrin (MBB) Business 1995Bowman, Amanda (SB) Business 2006Bowman, Josie (WBB) Health Administration 1996Boyts, Jenny (SB) Social Work 2008Bradford, John (MSOC) Accounting/Finance 2010Branson, Blair (SB) General Studies 2005Brasovan, Peter (MSOC) Marketing/Int’l Studies 2008Brauman, Abbe (VB/WBB) Education 2002Braun, Jenny (WXC) Radiation Therapy 2009Breneman, Zach (MTEN) Public Affairs 2007Brennan, Eric (MGO) Finance 2004Bretscher, Steven (MSWIM) Forensic & Inv.
