Classic Car Seminars at the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance

Page 2

On Saturday, hundreds of people attended a series of seminars

held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Chasing Classic Cars host

Wayne Carini, along with prominent car collector, Ralph Mara-

no, hosted a general seminar on the Mizner Grand Lawn. They

answered questions from the audience and even had a few classic

cars on display! Following this, Peter Lesler, Myles Kornblatt

and Robert Platz hosted a special seminar on Mercedes-Benz.

The day ended with the “Collector Car Market—The Past Five

Years, and the Five Years to Come” seminar moderated by Wayne

Carini with panelists Tom duPont, Dave Kinney, Bill Rothermel

and Dr. Paul Sable. Attended by a packed house of collector car

enthusiasts, the crowd listened to the panelists discuss the vari-

ous factors that have affected the market over the past five years

and what is currently affecting it today.

Paul Teutel, Sr. and Orange County Choppers

It was a pleasure to have Paul Teutel, Sr. in attendance throughout the weekend of festivities.

Whether it was at the Hangar Party, the Gala, or the car and motorcycle exhibition, Paul Sr.

was on hand to take pictures with fans and show off his one-of-a kind creations. One lucky

bidder won a priceless experience with Paul during the Live Auction at the Saturday Night

Gala. Not only did they win a “one-of-a-kind” chopper style bicycle created by Paul Sr. and

his talented team, but they will also fly to New York for a meet and greet with Paul Sr. as well

as an exclusive, custom tour of the Orange County World Headquarters!

Friday kicked off the weekend of events with the duPont Registry™ Live Hangar Party at the Boca Aviation. More than 1,500 guests attended the Hangar Party where they experienced select tastings from more than 20 of the best South Florida restaurants and eateries, and indulged in an array of wines and spirits. Guests also perused a fine selection of exotic and classic airplanes, motorcycles, boats, motor coaches, automobiles, private jets and businesses, including Paul Teutul Sr. of Orange County Choppers and his display of custom bikes, along with luxury vendor displays featuring jewelry, fine art and more.

Gala Dinner, Auction & Show

More than 700 guests attended the gala dinner, auction & show on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. The elegant evening began with a cocktail reception and a silent auction where guests had a chance to enter a $100 Champagne Raffle courtesy of J.R. Dunn Jewelers. The Gala Dinner began with the presentation of the Automotive Lifetime Achievement Award to Mike Maroone, President and COO of AutoNation, and the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance Award of Excellence to The Revs Institute for Automotive Research Inc. featuring the Collier Collection. Following the awards presentation, a stellar live auction took place giving guests the exclusive opportunity to bid on luxurious packages and one-of-a-kind exotic items money cannot buy, all benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. The evening concluded with a laugh-out-loud, memorable performance by Emmy Award winner, Wayne Brady.

Club Members Experience the Thrill of Classic Cars Up Close The 8th Annual Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance afforded, for the third year in a row, a select group of

members from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County to embark on a journey into the world of Classic

Cars. This exciting experience was made possible through Operation Ignite!, the Hagerty Insurance Youth

Judging Program.

The program was introduced in 2007 and has given kids the opportunity to learn about classic cars.

Under the guidance of Hagerty’s Youth Advocacy Coordinator, Kyle Smith, our members were designated

youth judges. Kyle explained to the kids the importance of the task at hand, while encouraging each child to

embrace and enjoy the experience.

The kids were very excited and really felt

special when they were each given a red hat

and blue t-shirt to wear—the official uniforms

for the youth judges. After a brief orientation

the kids were ready to go. With clipboards in

hand and pens ready, they were off to learn

more about the uniqueness of the cars.

Each classic car inspection took them on a

historical journey into the unique details, val-

ue and care given by the car owner. The kids

had the distinct pleasure of meeting several

car owners who travel the Concours circuit

across the country.

The judges were instructed by Kyle to judge the cars based on the following categories; design, interior, elec-

trical, paint and engine. Many of the car owners welcomed the kids and gladly took time to explain the de-

tails of their car. There were plenty of questions asked by the kids as well since they were blown away by

the experience. Some even commented that the Concours was “the best field trip ever!”

Their winning car was a 1966 Chevrolet Corvair owned by Jim Elliott of Yorktown, Virginia. (pictured right.)
