Due to the continuous growth of the business, they took the decision to relocate the Operation to a larger Fulfilment Centre (320,000 sq. ft.) in the West Midlands. Once an order is picked, packing operatives check the order then pack into an array of outers ranging from poly bags to large cardboard boxes prior to applying carrier despatch labels. The consignment is then placed on a section of zero line pressure (ZLP) accumulation roller conveyor which starts the transit to the sortation area on the ground floor. This type of conveyor is used widely on the system to ensure non-contact queuing due to the wide variety of sizes, shapes and weights causing damage to each other and potentially initiating jams along the system. The upper mezzanine floors use 2 powered spiral lowerators, to which CSL have now installed 100 in the UK. The boxes are safely and continuously fed to ground level where the barcode is scanned, by way of a state-of-the-art scanning array on each level, to determine which carrier lane the package needs to be sorted to. The sortation occurs on a multi- level area, where the product is diverted off using high speed switch sorters. Products from the higher level are sent down a grip face belt to an ergonomic handling height where all lanes incorporate motorised roller (ZLP) accumulation conveyor to create gaps for easier removal. CSL provided the full turnkey conveyor project including control, installation and commissioning of the wide range of packages. Conveyor Systems Limited (CSL) willexhibit a range of conveyors andinnovative vertical transport systemsat both IMHX and PPMA Totalexhibitions in 2016, including theQimarox Prorunner Mk1 andversatile Ambaflex spiral elevator/lowerator, both of which can beeasily integrated in to a conveyorsystem to provide efficient interfloorhandling solutions.

Also featured on the stand will be thenew energy efficient 24V non-contact accumulation conveyor (ZeroLine Pressure/ZLP), which is ideal fortransporting fragile, high value orirregular shaped products, providingsmooth transfer and accumulationwithout the products touching.

CSL representatives will be availableto also discuss the full range ofconveyor systems ideal for factories, warehouses, production facilities etcin a wide range of industries.

CSL cuts to the chase with STIHLWorld Leading Chainsaw / Power tool brand –STIHL, recently appointed Conveyor Systems Ltd(CSL) to streamline their order picking operation, which is carried out over a two tier mezzanine floorarea.

Previously, STIHL, who’s head office for GreatBritain is located in Surrey, conducted the processmanually using pallet gates in conjunction with aforklift truck to deliver palletised picked goods tothe ground floor. The process was then done inreverse to replenish stock to the relevant floors.

STIHL approached CSL with a brief to provide asemi-automated system to accommodate orderpicking and stock replenishment over two floors, requiring a fully reversible solution. The solutionrequired the ability to stop product between floorsfor consolidation.

Due to the range of small items and spare partsbeing handled within this application, all goods aretransported in conventional totes. This is a perfectfit for CSL’s range of standard tote conveyorsystems and spiral elevator/lowerator solutions.

CSL took a unique approach to combine a spaceefficient product that required no additionalguarding or complicated controls ethos andimplemented two spirals, one stacked upon theother. In essence it is two machines, operating asone solution, providing an infeed and outfeedfrom the first floor and delivering to either theground or second floor using the same commonconveyors.

From the second floor the totes are loaded onto aconveyor and fed down to the first floor via the topspiral lowerator. Upon landing at the secondfloor, a manual sort determines whether the toterequires removal for order consolidation or placingonto the next conveyor to take to ground. Thelower of the stacked spirals takes the product toground, wherebys another sort takes place. Allfinished orders are presented to a transitconveyor, which conveys the totes to a packingoperation. Stock replenishment operates in re-verse. To read the full article please visit our Case Study

CSL lifts the spiritsIn Bottling Hall

One of the World’s largest premiumalcoholic drinks manufacturers, recently appointed Conveyor SystemsLtd (CSL) to provide a solution totransit case loads of flat packedWhisky cartons from a lower floorstorage area up to the bottling hallbefore entering a carton erector androbot packer.

After careful planning the obvioussolution was a Qimarox ProrunnerMk1 vertical elevator which was theideal choice due to its small footprintas it had to fit the existing floorstructure. The MK1’s other benefitsincludes its patented design using ahigh quality reinforced belt instead ofchain which means it is ultra quiet, can operate at higher speeds and verylow maintenance. The elevator wasfitted with a motorised rollerconveyor platform to allow for the

automated infeed on the lower floorand outfeed transfer on the upperfloor.

To feed into the elevators on thelower floor and out on the upperfloor, CSL used 24v zero line pressure(ZLP) accumulation roller conveyorsto singulate cases and form a noncontact queue. The lower floor infeedconveyors are hand loaded frompallets at an ergonomically suitableheight and feed through mesh fencesafety guarding onto the liftplatforms. The upper floorautomatically feeds into a cartonerector then into robotic packing cell.

The 3 systems each have their ownindependent conveyor panel with atouch screen HMI for conveyor statusinformation and fault diagnostics. To read the full article please visit our Case Study sectionon the website website.
