WORK at Standard Bank Lydenburg came to an abrupt halt following a bomb scare on Monday. Employees and clients quickly evacuated the premises and the SAPS cordoned off the scene.The Lydenburg CID and K9 unit investigated and searched the bank. THERE is a water shortage in the Elands River upstream of the Mkhombo Dam catchment as well as within the Ohrigstad River catchment and the Buffelskloof Dam catchment due to insufficient rains and that it is necessary to limit the taking of water from Mkhombo/Rhenosterkop Dams, Ohrigstad Dam and the Buffelskloof Dam catchments.The Minister of Water and Sanitation may in terms of item 6 (1) of Schedule 3 to the Act limit the use of water in the area concerned if the Minister on reasonable grounds believes that a water shortage exists within the area concerned. NA aanleiding van verlede week se voorbladstorie oor “Trout Wars” deel mnr. Andre Coetzee graag sy ervaring met lesers. Hy was van 1975 af betrokke by die destydse TPA Natuurbewaring se Provinsiale Visserye Lydenburg en later die De Kuilen Forelteelstasie: Reënboogforel is sedert die begin van die 1900’s deur entoesiastiese vlieghengelaars in sekere Transvaalse, Kaapse en Natalse waters losgelaat. Die Provinsiale Visserye op Lydenburg het in 1947 tot stand gekom, met onder andere die doel om geskikte binnelandse (Transvaalse) waters met forel te beset en die spesie op Lydenburg te teel.Sedert 1973 het private grondeienaars met geskikte waters (hoë vloei en temperature onder 23 grade Celsius) tot die mark begin toetree. Natuurbewaring (die visserye op Lydenburg) het baie van die boere gehelp met damontwerp en kundigheid oor die teel van forelle oorgedra. Natuurbewaring het voortgegaan om forel in openbare waters (riviere soos die Blyde, bo-Elands ens.) te plaas om die vlieghengelsport te bevorder en dorpe soos Dullstroom het op hierdie nuwe ekonomie gedy.Natuurbewaring het egter besef dat reënboogforel as ’n uitheemse roofvis gekontroleer moes word. Die vis het ’n negatiewe uitwerking op sekere inheemse kleiner spesies. Alle forelwaters is gekarteer en die bedryf is toegelaat om binne die gebiede te groei, mits telers en verspreiders van die vis oor die nodige permitte beskik het. ’n Uitstekende verhouding het bestaan tussen

natuurbewaring en die privaatsektor in hierdie verband.In meer onlangse tye het natuurbewaringsorganisasies landwyd opgehou om die vis te promofeer soos nuwe wetenskaplike inligting die nadelige effek van die vis op inheemse vissies uitgelig het. Wetgewing het al hoe strenger geword en die goeie verhoudinge van destyds het om ’n verskeidenheid redes begin versuur. Wetgewing word al hoe strammer en die privaatsektor wil selfregulerend word, met die staat se hande af van die bedryf af.Een van die frustrerende faktore is dat hoewel natuurbewaring die oorspronklike gekarteerde forelwaters eerbiedig, die permiteringsproses al hoe meer frustrerend word. Visboere wag maande vir hulle vervoerpermitte en die administratiewe rompslomp is ’n probleem.Die wet is baie duidelik. As jy reënboogforel (insluitend hulle eiers) op jou plaas inbring, moet jy ’n permit hê. As jy die vis van jou plaas af versprei (lewendig) na ander visplase of hengelgebiede moet jy ’n vervoerpermit hê en dieselfde vir jou kliënt wat die vis op sy grond wil loslaat. Forelboere word egter erg frustreer deur die proses.Volgens Coetzee is die oplossing eenvoudig. Visboere binne die sogenaamde forelwaters behoort eenmalig van ’n vrystellingspermit voorsien te word om binne die forelwaters sy vis te teel, te verkoop en te skuif. Slegs waar forel in marginale gebiede gevestig word (op die grense van die gekarteerde area of buite die sogenaamde forelwaters) behoort ’n impakstudie en

risiko analise gedoen te word, alvorens ’n permit toegestaan word. Mense wat buite hierdie regulasies optree behoort vervolg te word.Daar is egter ’n paar baie belangrike beginsels wat moet geld. Die bedryf en natuurbewaring moet ooreenkom oor die gekarteerde forelwaters. Natuurbewaring moet sy permitstelsel so stroombelyn moontlik maak en alle rompslomp uit die weg ruim. Jaarlikse herhaalpermitte moet binne 7 dae as ’n roetine funksie uitgereik word. Nuwe permitaansoeke moet binne ’n redelike tyd (bv. 45 dae) afgehandel word. Die forelbedryf en natuurbewaring moet soos in die ou dae ’n forum skep waar die partye tweekeer per jaar om ’n tafel gaan sit en gesprek voer. Op hierdie wyse kan die bedryf voortgaan om ’n bydrae tot die ekonomie te maak en natuurbewaring kan sy moniteringstatus deur permitte in stand hou.Deur Andre Coetzee

Insurance companies and carmakers alike have been reduced to advising motorists to physically check their car doors and boot before walking away. But but for some motorists - particularly mothers with small toddlers in tow - that’s simply not practicable, and besides, doesn’t that negate the point of paying extra for remote locking anyway?Now, for the first time that we’ve heard of, a carmaker has done something about it.Hyundai SA is offering the ZX Jam Alert, made by Sanji Security Systems in Kyalami Business Park, as an optional accessory for any of its models, either when you buy it or as an aftermarket fitment. It’s actually quite simple, consisting of a radio receiver tuned to the same universal frequency as all car keys, garage and security-gate remotes, a clever little computer chip and a small, high-pitched siren. If the chip detects an uncoded, continuous radio transmission - which is how the bad guys block the coded signal from your key and prevent the car from locking - it lets go with four 110-decibel sound pulses from the siren. At that point everybody for several hundred metres in every direction will be uncomfortably aware that the person walking quickly away from the squealing car has just tried to break into it. Be warned: 110 decibels is seriously loud - be careful where you test the system. The Jam Alert costs R896.61 including VAT and installation; it comes in a water-resistant housing and carries a three-year or 100 000km warranty. Fitted in the engine compartment of your car, it draws power directly from the car’s battery but, since it operates independently of your car’s electronics, it doesn’t require any complicated surgery on the wiring. It only takes about 45 minutes to install - or a few minutes more if you want the optional back-up battery as well, to keep it alive if your car’s battery goes flat - and Sanji supplies full instructions on how to test the Jam Alert after installation, to make sure it will warn you if a jammer is operating in the vicinity of your car.Just be careful where you do it.iolmotoring.co.za

THE R35 GT-R may be almost 10 years old but for Nissan, that’s not long enough for them to bring out an entirely new model despite previous GT-R models only having a three to five year production run. Over the years the R35 GT-R has seen some slight enhancements to give it more power and to keep it relevant. This time around, with power still being a factor, Nissan has focused on elements to improve the comfort of this Japanese GT.Although the panels are more or less unchanged, the GT-R has been equipped with the now signature V-motion grille which has been slightly enlarged to improve airflow into the engine bay. The hood now makes use of a few more lines and the same goes for the front bumper which now sports a spoiler lip. The headlamp design has also been revised.The rear bumper now makes use of a few functional air vents around the quad tip exhausts and is slightly higher in order to provide more of a wide and aggressive appearance. With all of these changes the GT-R maintains its 0,26 Cd figure, but Nissan claims it will be more stable at higher speeds.The interior also makes use of a slight redesign which brings it into a slightly more modern setting. A new dashboard insert has been used and will be upholstered in Nappa leather. Cushioning in the instrument panels have also been thinned out and the seats now make use of a new side-support construction method in an attempt to shave some weight.Sadly the 2017 GT-R loses a lot of its switches with the new infotainment system. It now features an 8-inch screen controlled by a command rotor that you find in current

MITSUBISHI admitted to giving false data regarding the emission outputs on some of its vehicles.Wheels 24 reported that Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MMC) admitted it falsified fuel-efficiency tests in more than 600 000 vehicles, after reports of misconduct sent its Tokyo-listed shares crashing.The embarrassing revelation comes in the wake of a massive pollution-cheating scandal at Volkswagen that erupted in September 2015 and which the German automaker continues to be embroiled in.Mitsubishi South Africa said that vehicles involved in the fuel-consumption

debacle are not sold locally.Mitsubishi SA marketing manager Braam Faul said: "The Mitsubishi Motor Corporation announced that it will set up a committee consisting of external experts only to f u r t h e r i n v e s t i g a t e products manufactured for the export market, and will publish the results of the investigation as soon as it is completed.''

The fuel consumption data submitted to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) was calculated using a different testing method resulting in more favourable consumption rates, reports Mitsubishi. This affects four mini car models for the Japanese market.The affected vehicles – the Mitsubishi eK-Wagon and eK-Space as well as the Dayz and Dayz Roox manufactured by MMC for the Nissan Motor Corporation - were produced and sold from June 2013 to March 2016.Sales of these vehicles have been halted and manufacturing halted.

Daar was 381 inskrywings by die MTB Heritage Race Saterdag by die Gustav Klingbiel Reservaat buite Lydenburg. Dit is die eerste wedren van vele. Hopelik vind dit elke jaar hierdie tyd plaas. Die bekende ou kanon en olifantgeweer het die 30km en 17km begin. Dean Hunter het 'n ‘fly over’ gedoen net soos in die 1995 Wêreldbeker. Niemand is ernstig beseer nie en almal het klaar gemaak.
